I went to the POOREST place in America (Owsley County, Kentucky - Booneville)
In light of JD Vance being chosen for Donald Trump's running mate in the 2024 election, I thought that this was the perfect time to release this video. Vance spent a lot of his childhood in the heart of Appalachia in southeastern Kentucky, in a little hollow called Jackson. While he mainly grew up in Middletown, Ohio, much of his family was still down in southeastern Kentucky and he often went there to visit. In this video I don't go to Jackson, but I do travel to Appalachia and in fact travel to what appears to be the poorest county in the United States - a place called Owsley County, Kentucky. Booneville (named after Daniel Boone) is the seat of Owsley County.
JD Vance will soon be a household name and he may even end up being the Vice President of the United States. Vance started out with extremely humble and impoverished beginnings. In his book 'Hillbilly Elegy', he wrote about his upbringing and described in great detail life in a poor Appalachian 'holler' as well as the plight of many of the poor and forgotten people that live therewithin.
Booneville isn't a hollow, but it is a poor little Appalachian town and will naturally share many of the characteristics that Vance wrote about in his book. I wanted to give you all an inside look into the region share my experience with you.
Drugs, poverty, hardship exist in this region - in ever-increasing amounts, but so too do strong family values, love of country, natural beauty, a unique and fascinating culture, the roots of bluegrass music, etc. It's a place that very few ever get to, not for lack of opportunity, but it doesn't exactly rank very highly on most folks' travel bucket list. But I was extremely interested in the area so I took a road trip and went to see it for myself. I'm glad I did. I hope you all enjoy the video!

The Eatin Table in Monroe County Kentucky; A restaurant known to local residents
We recently took a weekend road trip to Monroe County Kentucky to a restaurant mostly known to local residents of the area. The Eatin table is a small place with some great food located in southern Monroe County.
The food is is great and very affordable, especially when you have a family to feed. The amount of food they give you makes it a great value also. Some of the deserts include homemade pies, cheesecake, fired pies and ice cream. No one will leave this place hungry.

Driving Around Small Town Kevil, KY in 4k Video
Filmed on Sunday, April 30, 2023, I drive around the village Kevil, Kentucky to see what's going on.
Kevil is a city in Ballard County, Kentucky. The population was 376 at the 2010 census, down from 574 in 2000.
Founded for its position on the Illinois Central Railroad, the town received its post office in 1903 and was named for local landowner R.U. Kevil.
In 1950, a plant was built to enrich uranium for the military. The uranium was used for chemical warfare such as reactors and nuclear weapons. This plant played a huge part in the further development of Kevil. Many of the houses you see in this city and surrounding areas were pop-up homes for migrating workers.
As of the census of 2000, there were 574 people, 245 households, and 169 families residing in the city.
The racial makeup of the city was 98.95% White, 0.17% African American, 0.35% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.52% of the population.
The per capita income for the city was $16,974. About 9.6% of families and 15.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.1% of those under age 18 and 14.4% of those age 65 or over. #driving #travel #drivingtour

Kentucky Ghost Towns Part 3 // Metcalfe County // Wisdom, Knob Lick, Sulphur Well, Alone
We head back to Kentucky to visit some very interesting towns in Metcalfe County. Since my last name is Wise, I had to visit Wisdom! Turns out a couple members of the band The Kentucky Headhunters grew up there. Knob Lick might make you chuckle (it did me as well). There's not a lot left, but I explain how it got it's name! Sulphur Well is actually a historic district, with a lot of interesting things to see and explore. Finally, we end up alone in Alone - where a cemetery is all that's left. I really had fun finding these tiny towns!
