Napier is one of the biggest tourist attractions in New Zealand having many best places in Napier. Tokoroa is the hub of New Zealand's massive forestry, timber and pulp and paper industries.
Located mid-way between Taupo and Hamilton on State Highway 1, Tokoroa is an ideal place to pause for an hour or two or, even better, for a day or two. The town takes its name after the Māori chief, Tokoroa who was killed as he led his people gallantly against the British in the mid 1800s.

Tokoroa is the number three largest town in the Waikato region which is nestled in the middle of the North Island in New Zealand. Tokoroa is also the biggest town in the South Waikato district. Located around 31 km's southwest of Rotorua, near the Mamaku Ranges, it is the gateway to multiple destinations. Tokoroa is a scenic treasure, with many outdoor areas for kids and adults alike to take in and enjoy. This week we trip around the South Waikato starting with Toadstool Guitars in Tokoroa, heading through to the Putaruru Food Court, The Waikato River Trail, Stock Rock and then we finish in Tirau at Magazine Designer Clothing.
WORKING AT A TREE NURSERY // TOKOROA, NEW ZEALAND
We spent longer than necessary working at a pine tree nursery. We spent the mornings cutting tree clippings, and then planting them in holes in the afternoons.

Back in Level 3 lockdown only in Auckland. The rest of New Zealand is level 2. There's a few positive cases of covid 19 here in Tokoroa. So we have to be extra cautious here.
Tokoroa's Talking Poles
A virtual tour of Tokoroa's Talking Poles located in Tokoroa, New Zealand.
Tokoroa's Talking Poles were first suggested in 1996 as a feature for the town's retail area upgrade. The project was enthusiastically supported by residents and to date, over 40 poles are on display.
The poles are arranged in a trail, mainly around the central shopping area. At a leisurely pace it takes about 90 minutes to see all of these art pieces.
The Talking Poles project aims to depict the variety of cultures in the Tokoroa community. Because of our forestry heritage, many of the poles are made from pine and other local woods. However, mediums such as ceramic and steel have also been used.
The project is managed by The Talking Poles Trust in partnership with the South Waikato District Council. The project has had generous support from Carter Holt Harvey.

In this video we start at one of our favourite bakery spots in the South Waikato, Bevs Delight. Bev's is one of the only places in New Zealand who still bake pies the old skool way, they're absolutely delicious. Bevs Delight in Putaruru is definitely a place you need to add to travel new zealand guide, it's definitely a place to eat in New Zealand that you want to add to your New Zealand Travel Adventure. We also stop by country fried chicken CFC in Tokoroa for a bite to eat before we made our way over to the Wairakei Thermal Health Spa for a good relaxing hot soak in the refreshing hot mineral spa.

1 Day in Ohakune [NZ] | Travel with kids
We spent one kid-friendly day in Ohakune, New Zealand exploring Waitonga Falls in Tongariro National Park, the Dinosaur House Museum, and the Ohakune Carrot Adventure Park. We went mid-summer 2022 during the “Orange” traffic light setting, so were able to do all the fun outdoor and indoor activities on our agenda!
The 4km Waitonga Falls hike took us around 1.5 hours and was a very easy walk for our 4 year old.
