NORTH CHILE ROAD TRIP | Atacama Desert

Travel to the wilderness of the Atacama desert.

Norte Grande, literally 'Great North', is located in the far north of Chile, north of the 26th parallel. It includes the administrative regions of Antofagasta, Arica and Tarapacá. The Norte Grande is one of the driest parts in the world, a large part is occupied by the Atacama Desert, and is therefore very sparsely populated. The largest places are Antofagasta, Arica, Calama, Iquique and Tocopilla.

🇨🇱 Street Walk Calama -Chile - 4K

This beach is located about 10 km to the south of Valparaiso, and features an incredible green lagoon (the Laguna Verde) surrounded by a long stretch of white sands and tall cliffs. 🇨🇱 Fantastic Iquique - Chile - 4K

Awasi Atacama Hotel Chile

Sign Up now for your free membership and benefit from exclusive perks and promotions in over 2000 luxury hotels worldwide.

Awasi is not the traditional kind of hotel. They aim to tailor memorable travel experiences through lodging, gastronomy, and outings while assuring guests' intimacy, freedom, and comfort. Awasi believes that luxury is best expressed not by ostentation but by the beauty of the simple, comfortable, and natural objects surrounding us. They also believe that elaborate decoration or overwhelming infrastructure has little true value if not also accompanied by outstanding service and the warmth of personal attention.

This property is located within San Pedro de Atacama, a few blocks away from the town square, the old Church, and the Museum. This allows guests to experience what life used to be and still is in the millennial Atacama oasis. A historic wall surrounds the Awasi property. A small street called Tocopilla separates part of the installations. The walls are the restaurant, bar, pool, living room, and five circular rooms with spacious private patios and solariums. Crossing Tocopilla is the reception area, and, skirting a large patio, there are three rectangular rooms. To assure guests' comfort and privacy, they only have 8 cottages, each at least 500 square feet with a private patio and outdoor shower.

During the day, the thatched roofs let warm sunlight filter through. The pool with comfortable deck chairs invites you to enjoy the Atacama sun and relaxing space. At sundown, the fire is lit, and a bar under the stars celebrates your stay with exquisite delicacies that go down well after a day full of nature. At night, the dim lights allow you to marvel at the superb skies of Atacama. All this together with diligent service that seeks to let you enjoy the essence of each moment.

The Cuisine and restaurant, for the exclusive use of their guests, guarantees privacy. Their team of dedicated professionals, together with the chef, have designed a sophisticated menu: a fusion of Altiplano and international food, giving you a taste of new flavors and aromas using typical ingredients of the area, which are part of the staples used by the native peoples: purple potatoes, patasca (a stew made with tripe, veal, potatoes, stewed corn, and peppers), quinoa, or chañar (a meaty, sweet fruit from the Chilean chañar or palo verde tree). Wake up every morning to homemade delights and be charmed during the day and night with a menu customized to your personal taste and needs.

Their excursions are as extensive and varied as the unbelievable natural and cultural surroundings. Each cottage is assigned a personal guide and vehicle, allowing guests to choose what is most attractive to them without adjusting to others' pace or preference. This way, they customize every excursion to each guest's interests, objectives, and physical conditions. To operate their outings with comfort and security, they have a modern fleet of 4WD vehicles equipped with communication and GPS systems, which allow us to reach places not accessible to most tourists who visit San Pedro de Atacama.

Fully committed to sustainable tourism, Awasi has signed an agreement with the British company EcoSecurities to offset its greenhouse emissions by purchasing carbon credits in several eco-friendly projects worldwide. As the first carbon-neutral hotel in Chile, Awasi has become one of Latin America's leading hotels. Awasi´s design and architecture also express commitment to sustainable tourism since all the materials used in its construction were obtained from the surrounding area. Local workers have participated in its construction, contributing to skills and knowledge passed on for generations.

During the first two years of operation, they have been recognized as one of the world's leading hotels by several publications, such as Travel & Leisure, Conde Nast, Tatler, Robb Report, and Architectural Digest others.

Ruta Del Altiplano Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Ruta Del Altiplano in Chile.
From the coastal cities in the north of Chile, the ancient trading routes of the Incas lead into the remoteness of the Andes and into the vastness of the Altiplano with its mountain villages, lakes and salt flats plus snow-covered volcanoes. We commence our journey in Arica, the northernmost and fifth oldest city in Chile. In the sixteenth century, silver treasures from Potosi was transported by mule caravan and loaded onto Spanish ships. The Valle De Azapa is a valley of the Rio San José that is a fertile oasis. The green valley and its many olive trees has a long history. The earliest people to live here grew crops and today the plantations contain olive trees, bananas, mangos, passion fruit and dates. Putre, the only large settlement on the old Inca route, lies at an altitude of three thousand five hundred metres above sea level. It lies sheltered on a mountain ridge at the foot of the snow-covered peaks of the Andes. The plaza is the centre of the town’s administration and also contains the Iglesia De Putre that is said to have once been adorned with silver and gold. Nature, highland oases and old mountain villages have all been a part of this fascinating journey. A journey that has reached its conclusion in the canyons of the Andes and which began in the Catholic coastal town of Arica, forming the splendid Ruta Del Altiplano!

Which tours YOU should take in San Pedro de Atacama

When you are traveling to San Pedro de Atacama, you will find a lot of tour agencies which are offering all sorts of tours.

Picking out the best tours can be quite overwhelming due to the variety of choices.

I did a lot of research before coming to San Pedro de Atacama and spoke to a lot of travelers online and offline, which tours are the best to take. In this video, I will show you which tours are worth your money.

Side note: Since I went to the 3-day Salar de Uyuni Tour, I decided to skip the Hidden Lagoons and Geysers in San Pedro de Atacama since it is quite similar. Many people who travel to San Pedro de Atacama have either done the Salar de Uyuni or will do it. If you won't do it, I would recommend you to do these two tours in San Pedro de Atacama.

Thank you for watching this video and don't forget to give a thumbs up & subscribe on my channel!
