Queenstown, New Zealand is known as the adventure capital of the world, and for good reason! Nestled in the heart of the Southern Alps on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown offers visitors breathtaking scenery and a wide range of thrilling activities. In this video, we'll be sharing some of the best things to do in Queenstown, New Zealand.
First on our list is bungee jumping. Queenstown is the birthplace of commercial bungee jumping, and you can experience this adrenaline-pumping activity at the Kawarau Bridge, which is the world's first commercial bungee site. You can also try the Nevis Bungy, which is the highest bungee jump in New Zealand, or the Ledge Bungy, which allows you to jump from a platform suspended 400 meters above Queenstown.
If you're a fan of winter sports, Queenstown is a must-visit destination. The city has four major ski fields, including Coronet Peak, which is only a 20-minute drive from the city center. You can also try your hand at snowboarding, snowshoeing, or even ice climbing.
For a more laid-back activity, take a scenic cruise on Lake Wakatipu. You can relax on board and take in the stunning scenery, or get off at one of the stops along the way and explore the local area. I travelled the South Island, New Zealand back in August 2019, and its only now (7th April 2021) that I'm finally uploading this video.
Take note, I may look younger in this video as I made the 'talking head' part of the video over a year ago too.
I'm very aware that New Zealand is still a difficult country to enter with its restrictions on entry during the pandemic, but I hope this video will give people planning a trip to New Zealand for the future some ideas.

Timaru is more beautiful than we previously anticipated before coming here, and at first, we weren't going to explore it. Then, we changed our minds and stayed another night, which was an eye-opener! Timaru is a port city in the southern Canterbury Region of New Zealand, located 157 km southwest of Christchurch and about 196 km northeast of Dunedin on the eastern Pacific coast of the South Island.

Timaru - The Seaside City with Little Blue Penguins | Canterbury, New Zealand
Timaru is the second largest city in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. It's located about midway between Christchurch and Dunedin, and it's also a convenient stop over on the way to Mt Cook. We stayed in Timaru for 2 nights with the main intention of hoping to see little blue penguins (the world's smallest penguins) who have a colony at Caroline Bay.
We travelled to Timaru from Akaroa and our first stop after the 3 hour journey was to have some lunch. We were craving Indian cuisine and thankfully came across a Punjab Indian restaurant in Timaru's city centre that had friendly service and great food.

Our accommodation in Timaru was a self-contained, very comfortable, well-equipped flat located only a short drive away from Caroline Bay.

We learnt from our friend @LanaTiare that you could see little blue penguins (kororā) in Timaru. The best month to see the little blue penguins in Timaru is apparently November though so we were pretty lucky to spot the two that we did at Marine Parade over at Caroline Bay. They return ashore a after a long day out in the sea (usually after it gets dark) so dress warmly and wait quietly and patiently on the footpath.

Touring Timaru - coast of the central South Island
The City of Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island of New Zealand, and two hours south along State Highway 1 is the city of Timaru. On this trip I spent an amazing 48 hours exploring the coast city of the Central South Island, and my suggestion to any visitor … MUST VISIT! Home to the world famous Barker’s of Geraldine, largest collection of Maori rock art, and possibly the coolest lounge bar in New Zealand.

TIMA-WHO?
Timaru is a quiet town on the route from Christchurch to Dunedin. The main street looks a lot like Brighton, but the Caroline Bay area is not very nice at all. We thought that the beach was going to be a nice place to relax for a bit, but the sand is dirty and charcoal coloured. The port seems to be the main industry in this little town, which runs all night, and not ideal for campers, as the noises can be heard all night. Nice place to stop for a coffee along the way, but I wouldn’t make it a destination that you must go and see!!
