75 000 h.p. The Biggest Nuclear Icebreaker

Our magic LUTs and presets for color grading:
This video was shot in the Arctic Ocean in March 2018. For 7 days our crew passed through the Barents Sea to Karsky around the Novaya Zemlya archipelago on the nuclear icebreaker Yamal - we saw the northern lights and polar bears, watched the ships stuck in the ice being towed, and were very cold.
In the video you can see two Russian icebreakers - “50 Years of Victory” and “Yamal” with a capacity of 75,000 horsepower and a distinctive shark mouth, which appeared on it in 1994 during one of the children's humanitarian programs. According to legend, someone suggested drawing a smiling shark mouth on the nose to make it more fun for children. At present, Russia has the only nuclear-powered icebreaker fleet in the world. They are used to provide wiring ships in the ices of the Northern Sea Route in the freezing ports of the Russian Federation, research expeditions, rescue operations and tourist cruises.
In addition to the extreme weather conditions, the shooting was complicated by the fact that the icebreaker was always in motion. And if the drone was flying over the radar tower, the recording file was damaged.

Tiksi (Yakut: Tiksii – lit. a moorage place, meeting point) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of Bulunsky District in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia, located on the shore of the Arctic Ocean, southeast of the delta of the Lena River at latitude 71°38′12″ N. Tiksi's population peaked in 1989 at 11,649, and in 2023 stood at 4,440. The construction of the Tiksi seaport and the village next to it was started as part of the exploration and development of the Northern Sea Route and the Lena River basin in 1933. During the Cold War and to this day, a military airfield operates in Tiksi. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Tiksi's population has declined markedly and many of its apartment blocks have been abandoned. Tiksi has a tundra climate. Winter averages (−30 °C) and extremes(−50 °C) are less severe than the subarctic region further south, but the winter length is longer courtesy of the higher latitude. The very short summers are generally cooler (+9 °C) than inland regions and see rainfall on most days. The polar night lasts from November 19 to January 24, and the period with continuous daylight, the midnight sun, lasts a bit longer, from May 11 to August 3. The growing season in Tiksi lasts for 74 days usually from around June 23 to September 5.

Exploring Vorkuta - Russian Ghost Town in Arctic | The Most Depressing Town in Russia
Despite the richest coal deposits that gave boost to the development of the city, Vorkuta and the adjacent settlements are rapidly emptying today. The mega project of the Soviet machine was not in demand among the heirs of the empire. Today, some districts of Vorkuta and surrounding villages are abandoned or are about to be completely deserted. How is Vorkuta living today? What's going on around her? What are the prospects for the main coal mining region in the north of Russia? I personally went to the Arctic to answer these questions.

The Reality of Life in Russia in 2023
This is our life in Russia in late 2022 / 2023. Traveling to Russia as a westerner has always been difficult, a bureaucratic nightmare, but this year is the first time Matt and I have really had any issues. We arrived in my hometown of Kemerovo, Siberia, after crossing in to Russia at Kaliningrad and flying to Novosibirsk. Once here and staying with my family, we went to register with the local authorities, but everything turned out to be a little complicated to say the least. This is a week in our lives here staying in Siberia as we hang out with my family and prepare for New years eve (the biggest celebration of the year in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and many other former Soviet countries). Welcome to a very cold, wintery Siberia.

The Reality of Life in Russia 2023 (bureaucratic nightmare)
Kadykchan - the Largest Ghost Town in Eastern Russia
Kadykchan is a depopulated urban locality of Magadan Region, Russia.
It was built by GULAG prisoners during World War II for the purposes of coal extraction. Coal was used mainly at a local electric power station, which supplied electricity to 2/3 of the Magadan region. In the late eighties, more than 10 thousand people lived there. Life was in full swing: shops, restaurants, a cinema, a House of Culture, a bathhouse worked. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, coal mining in the area became increasingly unprofitable.
Discover this abandoned ghost town in Kolyma region on the border of the famous Road of Bones, Magadan Oblast, in the far east of Russia!

Journey from Yakutsk, The Coldest City in The World, to Lena Pillars
The next episode of the journey around Far East of Russia in 2021 is devoted to Yakutsk, the coldest city in the world, and Lena Pillars - one of the greatest landmark of the Yakutia, which is also known to be the largest country subdivision with the square of 3083523 km² (1190555 mi²). Everything seems to be the most in this remote part of Russia. The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has dozens of incredible landmarks, and one of the most recognizable place of interest is Lena Pillars - rock formation on the bank of the Lena River. Having explored Yakutsk, I hitchhiked all the way to Lena Pillars, using boats at some stretches. Enjoy!

The Most EXPENSIVE City In Russia! (You Can't Come Here)
Anadyr is arguably the most expensive city in Russia. Food, Housing, and Transportation are all expensive, in fact, everything is expensive -- and there's a reason. This video shows you.
Путешествие по реке Лена из Тикси до Якутска. A trip up the Lena River from the Tiksi to Yakutsk.
Our trip up the river Lena was held from 20 to 25 September 2015. The motor ship «Mechanic Kulibin is the only passenger ship that comes to Tiksi from Yakutsk. During the summer navigation, the ship does about 4-5 voyages to Tiksi and is a vital means of transportation for the residents of the small Arctic villages scattered along the banks of the great river.
Our team of marine scientists has undertook this trip after finalising the expedition in the Laptev and Kara Seas. This could happen thanks to the lucky coincidence of completion of our marine expedition with the arrival of the motor ship Mechanic Kulibin to the Tiksi port, where we also completed our oceanographic expeditions Kara-Laptev summer 2015 on board of r/v Victor Buynitsky.
