Mayiladuthurai (formerly known as Mayavaram or Mayuram) is a town and district headquarter of Mayiladuthurai district in Tamil Nadu, India. The town is located at a distance of 281 km (175 mi) from the state capital, Chennai. Mayiladuthurai is known for its ancient temples, some of them are the famous Mayuranathaswami Temple, a prominent Shaivite shrine and Parimala Renganathar Temple, a Vaishnavite shrine which are located in the city.
Mayiladuthurai is administered by a town panchayat established in 1866. As of 2008, the panchayat covered an area of 11.27 km2 (4.35 sq mi). Mayiladuthurai comes under the Mayiladuthurai assembly constituency which elects a member to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly once every five years and it is a part of the Mayiladuthurai constituency which elects its Member of Parliament (MP) once in five years. It is well connected by road and rail transport. Mayiladuthurai serves as an important junction in main line connecting Chennai with Trichy. Roadways and Railways are the major mode of transportation to the town. The nearest airport, Pondicherry Airport, is located 116 km (72 mi) from the town.
Mayiladuthurai was carved out of Nagapattinam district and inaugurated as the 38th district of Tamil Nadu on December 28, 2020.
The economy of Mayiladuthurai is primarily agro-based. The main products of Mayiladuthurai are rice, coconuts and plaintains.[47] Confectioneries, printing presses, vehicle manufacturing units and rice mills are the major industries in Mayiladuthurai. Industrial workers form barely 27.14 percent of the town's population.[46] Mayiladuthurai is known for a unique variety of cloth known as the Kornad cloths which derives its name from the suburb of Kornad where they are manufactured. These cloths are made up of a mixture of cotton and silk and dyed in bright colours.
The municipality runs a vegetable market and fish market in the town.There are many departmental stores in Mayiladuthurai. The only shopping complex is the Kittappa commercial complex which is maintained by the municipality.

കുംഭകോണം | Kumbakonam, is a town and a special grade municipality in the Thanjavur district. It is located 40 km (25 mi) from Thanjavur and 273 km (170 mi) from Chennai. Kumbakonam is known as a temple city due to the prevalence of a number of temples here and is noted for its Mahamaham festival which attracts people from all over the country.
Kumbakonam dates back to the Sangam period and was ruled by the Early Cholas, Pallavas, Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Pandyas, the Vijayanagara Empire, Madurai Nayaks, Thanjavur Nayaks and the Thanjavur Marathas. It rose to be a prominent town between the 7th and 9th centuries AD, when it served as a capital of the Medieval Cholas. The town reached the zenith of its prosperity during the British Raj when it was a prominent centre of European education and Hindu culture; and it acquired the cultural name, the Cambridge of South India. In 1866, Kumbakonam was officially constituted as a municipality, which today comprises 45 wards, making it the largest municipality and second largest local civil body in Thanjavur district.

Thiruvaiyaru (also spelled as Tiruvaiyaru or Tiruvayyaru) is a panchayat town in Thanjavur District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Thiruvaiyaru is situated on the banks of the river Kaveri, 11 km (6.8 mi) from North of Thanjavur. National Highway No.136 from Thanjavur connect Thiruvaiyaru, Ariyalur, Perambalur byepass and Aththur bypass. State roads to Kumbakonam at 37 km (23 mi) in the East and Kallanai 33 km in the West connect Thiruvaiyaru.
Thiruvaiyaru has an old Siva temple dedicated to Aiyarappar or Panchanatheeswar. Though pilgrims flock to this temple throughout the year, Thiruvaiyaru is more renowned for its association with Saint Thyagaraja, who, along with Muthuswami Dikshitar and Shyama Sastri, comprised the Trinity of Carnatic music. Thiruvaiyaru means Five Rivers around the city. The Five Rivers are Vadavaar, Vennaar, Vettaar, Kudamurutti and Kaveri.
Thiruvaiyaru is the headquarters of the Thiruvaiyaru taluk. Thiruvaiyaru is a small, quiet town. But due to the National Highway and State Highways going across the center of the town, frequent traffic jams happening for a long time. However, its modesty belies in its importance as a pilgrim Centre. On the highway from Thanjavur, you pass five bridges over the Vadavar, Vettar, Vennar, Kudamurutti and Kaveri, the five rivers from which Thiruvaiyaru gets its name (thiru = sacred; ai(ndhu) = five; aaru = river). The presiding deities of the Shiva temple here, God Panchanadeeshvara and Goddess Dharmasamvardhani in Sanskrit (in Tamil, Ayyarappar and Aram valarththa nayagi) both mean the same thing,`Panchanadeeswara got his name as the Lord of these Five Rivers. Thiruvaiyaru is considered as holy as Varanasi and bathing in the Kaveri here is as guaranteed to rid devotees of sins as bathing in the Ganges.
The Thyagaraja Aradhana festival is held in the Bahula Panchami Thithi of Margazhi (Margashirsha)Tamil month which falls on December or January when most of the leading exponents of Carnatic music come to perform and are watched by thousands of ardent fans of classical music. A huge complex is built at this site to accommodate the large audience that come to the concert in ever increasing numbers every year.
Thiru Neithanam is situated at a distance of about 2 kms from Thiruvaiyaru. It is located at a distance of about 37 kms from Kumbakonam and 15 kms from Tanjore.
Other Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam near this place are – Thiruvaiyaru, Thirukkandiyur, Thiru Chotruthurai, Thiruvedhikudi, Thiruppazhanam and Thiruvirkudi.
There are 51 stone inscriptions in this temple which date back to the periods of five Chola kings including Paranthakan-I. In these stone inscriptions this place is referred to as “Rajaraja Valanattu Bainganaattu Thiru Neithanam” and the lord of this temple is praised as Sri Neithanamudaiyar. Most of these inscriptions are related to the endowments and donations made to this temple.

Thirunageswaram is a panchayat town in kumbakonam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Thirunageswaram is located 6 km east of Kumbakonam. It is the suburban region of business city of Kumbakonam.
Thirunageswaram is one of the many temple towns in the state which is named after the grooves, clusters or forests dominated by a particular variety of a tree or shrub and the same variety of tree or shrub sheltering the presiding deity.
There are two major temples at Thirunageswaram. One of them is the famous Vaishnavite temple of Oppliyappan (Oppliyappan Sannadhi), the other the Thiru Nageswarar or Naganatha Swami temple for Shaivites.
The Thirunageswaram Temple has vast prakarams, towering gopurams, and several mandapas. There are four entry towers with fort like walls which surround the outermost prakaram. The Vinayaka temple, Balipeetam, and Nandeeswarar Mandapam are seen on the eastern gateway. Lord Rahu's idol is placed in the south-west corner. The southern side of the temple has a water head with four mandapas, surrounded by a 100 pillar mandapam in a temple-car style. The mandapam is decorated by artistic pillars in all directions.
திருநாகேசுவரம் நாகநாதசுவாமி கோயில் சம்பந்தர், அப்பர், சுந்தரர் மூவராலும் பாடப் பெற்ற சிவாலயமாகும். இதனால் பாடல் பெற்ற தலம் என்ற சிறப்புப் பெற்றுள்ளது. காவிரி தென்கரைத்தலங்களில் 29ஆவது சிவத்தலமாகும்.
கும்பகோணத்தில் இருந்து தென்கிழக்கில் காரைக்கால் செல்லும் நெடுஞ்சாலையில் 6 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் திருநாகேஸ்வரம் தலம் அமைந்துள்ளது. சண்பக மரங்கள் நிறைந்து காணப்பட்டதால் இந்தப் பகுதி சண்பகாரண்ய க்ஷேத்திரம் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. திருநீலக்குடி சப்தஸ்தானத்தில் திருநீலக்குடி, இலந்துறை, ஏனாதிமங்கலம், திருநாகேஸ்வரம், திருபுவனம், திருவிடைமருதூர் மற்றும் மருத்துவக்குடி ஆகிய ஏழூர்த் தலங்களில் இத்தலமும் அடங்கும்.
இது சேக்கிழார் திருப்பணி செய்த தலமாகும். இங்கு திருப்பணிகள் செய்த சேக்கிழார், தான் பிறந்த சென்னை - குன்றத்தூரிலும் இதே பெயரில் ஒரு கோயிலை கட்டி அதற்கு திருநாகேஸ்வரம் என்று பெயர் சூட்டினார் என்றால், அவருக்கு இந்த ஆலயத்தின் மீது எந்த அளவுக்கு பக்தியும் மரியாதையும் இருந்திருக்கும் என்பதை உணரலாம். இக்கோயிலில் இவருடைய அமர்ந்த நிலையிலான சிலை உள்ளது. உருத்திராக்க மாலையோ அணிகலன்களோ இல்லாமல் உள்ள இந்த சிலையின் அருகே இவரது தம்பியான பாலறாவாயரின் உருவச்சிலையும், இவரது தாயாரின் உருவச்சிலையும் உள்ளன.
இத்தலத்தின் அருகில் வைணவத் தலமான திருவிண்ணகர் (ஒப்பிலியப்பன்) திருக்கோயிலும் உள்ளது.
திருவிடைமருதூர் மகாலிங்கேசுவரர் திருக்கோயில் சம்பந்தர், அப்பர், சுந்தரர் மூவரதும் தேவாரப் பாடல் பெற்ற தலங்களில் சோழ நாடு காவிரி தென்கரைத் தலங்களில் காவிரி கரையில் அமைந்துள்ள 30ஆவது சிவத்தலமாகும். இத்தலம் திருவிசைப்பா திருப்பல்லாண்டு திருத்தலங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.
காவிரிக் கரையில் உள்ள 6 சிவஸ்தலங்கள் காசிக்கு சமானமாக கருதப்படுகின்றன. அவற்றில் திருவிடைமருதூர் தலமும் ஒன்றாகும். திருவிடைமருதூரில் உள்ள சிவாலயம் சுமார் 1200 வருடங்களுக்கு மேல் பழமையான ஒரு ஆலயமாகும்.
