What are the best cities to live in Texas? In 2021, the United States as a whole grew about 1.5 percent. Texas saw the largest percentage increase in terms of absolute numbers and percentage, growing by 2.8%. There’s a constant desire for more space in America and that is probably one of the primary reasons that Texas is such a popular destination. Texas is growing at 1,000 people per day as reported by State Demographer Lloyd Potter. The state’s population growth is backed up by the latest world economic rankings. In a July 2015 report, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor showed that 91 percent of the state’s CEOs say business start-ups are “a good thing for the state and its economy.” Here’s the list of the 10 best cities to live in Texas.
10. Waco
Waco has one of the highest projected job growth rates in the country over the next five years as the State of Texas and Baylor University collaborate to attract businesses to the area. It’s the first to be considered on this list of the 10 best cities to live in Texas. Waco is also expanding its options for retail, dining, and other services. In a bid to fast-track its recovery from Hurricane Harvey, Waco has continued to woo businesses and investors to the area. In the next five years, the city is expected to have a more than 10 percent job growth rate.
9. Southlake
This college town is surrounded by plenty of farmland, so there is ample space for homeowners to care for their horses and cows. Families also have opportunities to enjoy great outdoor recreational opportunities such as mountain biking, fly fishing, bird watching, and kayaking. This little coastal city is known for its oyster festivals and is famous for its beautiful beaches in Texas. The city itself is a historic river town with four miles of waterfront property.

Rockwall is a suburb of Dallas. It is walkable from the city. However, it is still not a cosmopolitan city. Its median household income of $77,654 is quite rich for Texas. Statistically also shows that it is the city with the most educated residents in the state. Rockwall has a higher rate of educated residents than anywhere else in the state. About 45.2 percent of them have a bachelor’s degree and more than half of its population either have either a university first degree or professional qualification.

You may think you know Rockwall, and that might just be as a fancy suburb of Dallas, but it's more complex than that. This town on the banks of Lake Ray Hubbard has new surprises around every corner.
This museum is housed in the oldest residential home in town — and it’s more than just a treasure trove of local artifacts. It’s also the place where you can learn about the real and very mysterious rock wall, which has some controversy about how it got there or where it came from. See what’s left of this seemingly man-made historic wall that stretches down 80 feet into the ground outside the museum.
If the last destination was the most historic, than this just might be the most futuristic house in town… even if it was built in the 1960s. This space ship-looking circular house was one of the few popular “Futuro Houses” that actually made it to market during the 1960s, when this modern style was created. And though now it’s only a shell of a building, I bet your imagination will run wild with the sci-fi possibilities of this place.
You might be surprised to find that the local favorite burger joint is actually a converted garage! It’s got none of the those frilly things like fries, tables and waitstaff — but what it does have is some of the best flavorful and greasy burgers you’ll find. Order yours with the homemade jalapeno relish, grab a coke and some chips and enjoy your burger nearby at Harry Myers Park (because it’s actually illegal to eat on the property.)
Just off the square is an upscale restaurant serving more than just your average Texan eats. Chef Mat of the Culinary Institute of America cooks up delicious fresh plates with global influences to create something super special, like rolled pork tacos with ancho BBQ Sauce.
And just like nothing is quite what it seems in this town, the local gravel and turf company has built a golf course behind their lot in a corn field. True, it’s only 9-holes and par 3, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still hours of fun!
The Rockwall Harbor is a happening place! Whether you’re taking sailing lessons with the North Texas Sailing School, hopping on a yacht at the Rush Creek Yacht Club or catching a concert on a summer night, this spot has something for everyone, and an incredible view of Lake Ray Hubbard.

Terrell is a city in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 17,465. Terrell is located about 32 miles (51 km) east of Dallas.
Terrell developed as a railroad town, beginning in 1873 with construction of the Texas and Pacific Railroad line.[5] The town was named for Robert A. Terrell, a pioneer European-American settler whose farm lay on its western edge. He built an octagonal house on his property, called Round House, to provide better defense against attacks by Native Americans. They had occupied this territory for thousands of years. His house was later fitted with the first glass windows in the county. The community was incorporated in 1875. The first automobile appeared in 1899.
In 1892, Terrell was a sundown town that largely prohibited African Americans from living there.
The Terrell Military College was established in Terrell, operating until after World War II. Its campus was sited on part of the former Terrell farm and incorporated his historic Round House. In 1949, the Southern Bible Institute, based in Dallas and affiliated with the Churches of Christ, bought the military college property and transferred their operations here, renaming their institution Southwestern Christian College. It is a private, historically black college. The Round House has been preserved on campus, and is one of 20 such structures in the nation.
The headquarters of the 3rd Battalion, 144th Infantry Regiment of the Texas Army National Guard was also located in Terrell.
