Corbara Lake (Terni) Umbria - Discover Italy

Corbara Lake is an artificial lake formed with the construction of the homonymous hydroelectric basin rected across the river Tiber in the 1960s. It takes its name from the hamlet of Corbara, a locality in the municipality of Orvieto.

The Corbara Lake has developed into a fascinating eco-system that is today protected by the Tiber River Park, which occupies a long strip of land either side of the river and around the lake itself, providing a number of facilities of quality tourism with an eye to preserving the environment.

The lake occupies a splendid valley that opens from the Forello gorges and is part of the Tiber River Park, a protected natural area in Umbria. For those who love nature it is possible to walk along the shores of the lake, visit the Gole del Forello, the karst coves carved by the Tiber and the splendid caves that open on the sides of the lake in which it is possible to make speleological visits, including the Grotta Bella and the Grotte della Piana.

In this protected area you can spot beautiful specimens of herons, and other species of small birds, even rare, that find shelter in the luxuriant vegetation of the River Park. For the fauna, the presence of fallow deer and mouflons is worthy of note.

Lake Corbara, in addition to having a great landscape interest, is considered by sport fishermen to be one of the most interesting lakes in central Italy, especially for carp fishing.

Cascata delle Marmore Waterfall Terni,Italy (Beautiful Waterfall's Terni,Umbria) ‎

Most Beautiful Place To Visit in Italy 🇮🇹 One of the Big Waterfall in Italy.

Welcome to: Cascata delle Marmore (Marmore's Falls) - Terni - Italy

The Cascata delle Marmore (Marmore's Falls) is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans. Its total height is 165 m (541 feet), making it one of the tallest in Italy and the tallest man-made waterfall in the world. Of its 3 sections, the top one is the tallest, at 83 m (272 feet).

It is located 7.7 km from Terni, a provincial capital of the Italian region of Umbria.

Its source is a portion of the waters of the river Velino (the rest of the river flows into a hydroelectric power plant), after flowing through Piediluco lake near the community of Marmore. It pours into the valley below formed by the river Nera. Its flow is turned on and off according to a published schedule, to satisfy the needs of tourists and the power company alike. Tourists try to be there the moment the gates are opened to see the powerful rush of water. (Source: wikipedia)

ISA SA PINAKA MAGANDANG PASYALAN SA TERNI ITALY CASCATA DELLA MARMORE

CASCATA DELLE MARMORE, OR MARMORE Falls, is a magnificent sight to behold. Water from the Velino River surges through the hills above the city of Rieti before bursting over verdant cliffs and plummeting into the valley below. The tiered waterway, surrounded by trees and greenery, looks like a fabulous force of nature.

In reality, there’s nothing natural about these falls. At 541 feet tall, this waterway is the tallest human-made waterfall in the world. It’s impressive stature is a 2,000-year-old testament to human engineering.

The Romans built Cascata delle Marmore in 271 BC. At the time, the hills were a marshy spot, full of stagnant water and disease-bearing insects. To fix the issue, a Roman consul ordered workers to construct a canal that would send the water soaring over a nearby cliff and down into the Nera River, which flowed through the valley below.

While this did in fact fix the swamp issue, it unfortunately created another problem. The canal was so effective at rerouting the water that it wound up flooding the river below, threatening the nearby city of Terni. Tension over water management between the highland and lowland residents became so heated the Roman senate was forced to intervene in 54 BC (though their involvement actually accomplished nothing).

The falls continued to flow uninterrupted until the 15th and 16th centuries, when a couple of new channels were created to help divert the flooding. Cascata delle Marmore received its current look in 1787, when an architect diverted some of the water to create a series of lateral cataracts.

Humans still control the waterfall. Much of the Velino River is now channeled into a hydroelectric plant, which reduces the fall’s thundering, roaring flow to a mere whimper. But twice a day, much to the delight of visitors, the power plant flips a switch and lets the water once again gush over the cliffs as it had for millennia.
