Temuco (Spanish pronunciation: [teˈmuko]) is a city and commune, capital of the Cautín Province and of the Araucanía Region in southern Chile. The city is located 670 kilometres (416 miles) south of Santiago. The city grew out from a fort of the same name established in 1881 during Chile's invasion of Araucanía.[4] Temuco lies in the middle of the historic Araucanía, a traditional land of the indigenous Mapuche.
Temuco's central place in Araucanía with easy access to the Andean valleys, lakes and coastal areas makes it a hub for tourism, agricultural, livestock and forestry operations as well as a communication and trade centre for the numerous small towns of Araucanía. Temuco has recently been regarded as a university city as it houses two large universities: University of the Frontier and Temuco Catholic University. Nobel laureates Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda both lived in Temuco for some time.
emuco is a city in central Chile, south of Santiago. Its grand, central square, Plaza Aníbal Pinto, is adorned with imported palm trees. This northern Chilean town is the second oldest in the nation. It boasts a city full of lovely architecture and a warm golden beach. La Serena has a reputation as an intellectual town, and has a number of great sights that fit this description, like an archaeological museum and astronomical observatory. Torres Del Paine National Park
tural areas and an increasingly popular travel destination is the spectacular Torres del Paine National Park. Situated more than 100 kilometers north of the city of Puerto Natales in southern Patagonia, this stunningly beautiful area encompasses mountains, glaciers, and countless lakes and rivers.
The most important region of the park is the Cordillera del Paine, an area that marks the transition from the Patagonia steppe to the subpolar forests of the north. Perhaps the most notable of its many wonderful features are the three 2,850-meter-tall granite peaks of the Paine Massif, which dominate this already breathtaking scenery.
Valle de la Luna and the Atacama Desert
Valle de la Luna, which literally translates as Valley of the Moon, lies 13 kilometers west of San Pedro de Atacama at the north end of the country, near its border with Bolivia. It can be accessed via well-marked bike trails, tour buses, or self-drive car rentals.
This rugged, inhospitable looking landscape in the heart of the Atacama Desert attracts many visitors for its eerie resemblance to the surface of the moon, an effect caused by the erosion of its sand and stone features by wind and water over countless millennia. Despite its remoteness, though, this surprisingly beautiful landscape has sustained life for centuries, both human as well as that of numerous species of flora and fauna.
Among its most interesting features are its dry lake beds-this is, after all, one of the driest places on the planet-which are dazzlingly white due to deposited salt, and prone to producing fascinating natural saline outcrops.
Other notable features of the Atacama Desert are the region's many caverns, some containing evidence of pictographs created by early man and where some of the world's oldest mummies, preserved by the area's aridity, were found. The most famous of these, the Chinchorro mummies, are now on display at the archaeological museum in San Miguel de Azapa.
Easter Island & Rapa Nui National Park
First visited by Europeans in 1722, the magnificent yet remote Easter Island – so named by a Dutch Explorer who first set eyes on it on Easter Sunday – has been inhabited for thousands of years by Polynesians. Despite being more than 3,500 kilometers away from mainland Chile, this fascinating island with its remarkable stone sculptures remains the country's most recognizable attraction.
Also of interest are the many hare paenga ruins near ahu sites consisting of stones that once formed the foundation of boat-shaped houses. Other highlights include the Father Sebastian Englert Anthropological Museum in Hanga Roa, the island's main community, notable for its exhibits relating to the history of the Polynesian islanders and their traditions.
Hot Tip: Visiting Easter Island is best done as part of a Chilean vacation, with regular flights available from Santiago or Tahiti. Flight times are approximately five hours, so expect to stay at least a couple of days.
Santiago: Chile's Cultural Capital
Santiago is not only the financial and business capital of Chile, it also serves as the country's cultural and entertainment center. Consequently, it's home to endless fun things to do, including visiting its best museums and galleries, along with excellent shopping, dining, and hotel options.
Be sure to also spend time enjoying Santiago Metropolitan Park (Parque Metropolitano de Santiago), a huge urban green space. Here, you'll find a botanical garden, the Chilean National Zoo, and a funicular railway.

El bus cubre la ruta Temuco - Victoria - Curacautín - Zapala - Cutral Co - Plottier - Neuquén - General Roca, un viaje precioso que muestra lo más bonito del sur de Chile y Argentina, con el cruce de las montañas de la cordillera de los Andes en el paso internacional Pino Hachado. En Chile, el bus cruza la región de la Araucanía, que tiene muchos volcanes activos, parques nacionales y bosques con colores otoñales. En la cordillera vemos bosques de araucarias, y en Argentina, en la Provincia de Neuquén, vemos la pampa fría y algunas ciudades de la industria del petróleo.
El bus es un Marcopolo Paradiso 1800 DD G7, chasis Scania K400, inscrito en Enero 2017, placa JGVY98 y con la numeración NarBus Internacional 353. El bus tiene asientos económicos 'Semi Cama' y asientos 'Salón Cama', con puertos USB y aire acondicionado.

Die Ruta 7 führt von Puerto Montt bis hinunter nach Villa O'Higgins und stellt noch immer eine wahre Herausforderung dar, da die Strecke größtenteils eine Schotterpiste ist. Der Tourismus ist bei weitem nicht so ausgeprägt wie in anderen Teilen des Landes, sprich: regelmäßige Busverbindungen, Unterkünfte und detaillierte Infos sind rar.
Jedoch liegt genau in dieser Abgeschiedenheit der Reiz. Ich habe auch bei meiner letzten Reise verhältnismäßig wenig Reisende aus Europa und Nordamerika getroffen, die Einheimischen haben mich sehr herzlich aufgenommen und die meisten Sehenswürdigkeiten waren nicht überlaufen.
Die Carretera Austral in Chile ist für mich das Highlight schlechthin in Patagonien. Die 1.200 km lange Straße führt durch die landschaftlich beeindruckendsten Ecken der Region, daher habe ich in diesem Video meine 10 besten Sehenswürdigkeiten entlang der Carretera Austral zusammengefasst. Ich selbst habe die Carretera Austral bereits 2 mal komplett per Anhalter bereist (2013 & 2016) und damit insgesamt 1 Monat in diesem Teil Chiles verbracht.
Um die Ruta 7 komplett zu bereisen empfehle ich einen Aufenthalt von mindestens 2 Woche - folgend liste ich alle Sehenswürdigkeiten entlang der Carretera Austral in Chile auf, die in diesem Video genannt werden:

- Queulat Nationalpark, Queulat Gletscher, Puyuhuapi
