El Valle de Tehuacán - Cuicatlán, en México, fue designado por la Unesco Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad en 2018 por ser un paisaje que ilustra una etapa importante de la historia de la humanidad: el hábitat originario de Mesoamérica; y por contener un hábitat natural importante y significativo para la conservación in situ de la diversidad biológica. O sea, tiene un patrimonio de la humanidad mixto: cultural y natural.
La Reserva de la Biosfera Tehuacán-Cuicatlán, como también se la conoce, abarca 490,186 hectáreas distribuidas en 21 municipios del estado de Puebla y 30 de Oaxaca. La zona pertenece y se encuentra en la Sierra Madre del Sur que se caracteriza por un relieve accidentado, donde sierras que no rebasan los tres mil metros sobre el nivel del mar rodean los extensos valles de Tehuacán y Zapotitlán, así como la Cañada de Cuicatlán. Casi la totalidad de la reserva forma parte de la cuenca alta del río Papaloapan, uno de los más caudalosos de México. Esta zona, al igual que las regiones de trópico seco que abundan en el sureste de México, y en contra de la creencia popular, no es pobre en diversidad biológica. Al contrario, las 145.000 hectáreas del Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán incluido dentro de la reserva es descrito por la UNESCO como la zona árida o semiárida con mayor diversidad biológica de toda América del Norte; tanto la flora como la fauna contienen especies únicas en el mundo.
Lo más espectacular de su flora seguramente sean los bosques de cactáceas que como si fuesen agujas clavadas en la tierra pueden alzarse hasta los 20 metros de altura. Sólo en el Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán crecen 86 especies de estas cactáceas, el 11% de ellas, endémicas.
Pero aquí hay mucho más que cactus. Debido a la gran variedad de ecosistemas que contiene la reserva, la flora está formada por 2700 especies identificadas, hasta el momento, lo que representa aproximadamente el 10 % de todas las especies documentadas en México. Existen gran variedad de pinos, algunas especies endémicas de cícada o palma real en peligro de extinción, y tras los cactus gigantes, en popularidad le siguen, las “patas de elefante”, árboles que pueden alcanzar una antigüedad de hasta 2500 años.
La fauna no se queda atrás y también refleja la variedad de ecosistemas. El lugar es refugio de 140 especies de aves. Entre los vertebrados, se calcula 14 especies de peces, 83 especies de reptiles (el 10 % del total de México), 28 especies de anfibios y hasta el momento se tiene un registro de 102 especies de mamíferos, de las cuales un tercio son murciélagos (casi el 30 % de los murciélagos del país). De las seis especies de felinos que habitan en México, cinco se han encontrado en la reserva, como el jaguar, el ocelote y el puma. También existe un gran número de insectos y otros artrópodos documentados
Dijimos que la UNESCO ha listado a este lugar no solo por su patrimonio natural, también cultural.
La Reserva de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán fue uno de los escenarios donde se desarrolló por primera vez la agricultura en Mesoamérica. Se calcula que la ocupación humana en este sitio y otros lugares de los Valles Centrales de Oaxaca, puede haberse dado de forma continua desde hace 12.000 años. Aquí se han localizado restos de maíz fósil que datan de alrededor del año 5000 a. C Los pozos, presas, canales y acueductos para cultivar el maíz son considerados por los arqueólogos como los más antiguos de América. Una de sus presas tiene 2.800 años de antigüedad. También se han encontrado huellas de dinosaurios, pinturas rupestres y hasta fósiles marinos, pues este desierto hace millones de años era un océano.

Teotihuacán, la guía definitiva para las pirámides

*Cómo llegar a Teotihuacán
-Puedes llegar en auto, transporte público o contratando un Tour.

El Tour oficial es operado por Turitour y es el que mostramos en el video, está muy completo por que incluye transporte, entradas, guía, comida y degustación de mezcal, es excelente sobre todo si vienes de fuera y quieres conocer la zona arqueológica sin complicaciones.

En auto:
Hay que tomar la Autopista México Pachuca y salir a la izquierda en el entronque con la carretera de Cuota San Juan Teotihuacán, se hacen aproximadamente 45 minutos, el camino tiene peaje.
En Transporte Público:
-En la central del norte salen unos autobuses que te acercan, son de segunda clase, no muy recomendables a menos de que tu presupuesto sea limitado.
*Qué visitar en Teotihuacán
-Los 4 lugares imperdibles son la pirámide del sol, la de la luna, el templo a Quetzalcoatl, y el Palacio de Quetzalpapálotl, que son los sitios que mostramos en el video, sin embargo hay muchas más cosas que ver, puedes pasarte el día entero visitando éstos lugares y el museo de sitio, recorriendo la calzada de los muertos, y explorando cada ruina que te encuentres.
*Paseo en globo por encima de las pirámides.
-Es una de las experiencias más impresionantes que hemos vivido en nuestros viajes y algo que vas a recordar toda la vida, el paseo tiene un costo de $2,999 por persona, y sale desde la Catedral a las 6:15 am todos los Sábados y Domingos, escogimos ésta compañía por que el precio incluye seguro de viajero.
*Qué comer en Teotihuacán
-Si vas en el Tour, no te tienes que preocupar por esto, pero si vas en auto o en transporte público, verás que saliendo de la Zona Arqueológica hay muchísimas personas ofreciéndote que vayas a comer a su restaurante. Una opción es el Restaurante El Ranchito, muy típico de Teotihuacán o si tienes ganas de comer en un lugar espectacular, acude al Restaurante La Gruta Teotihuacán, es caro pero bueno.
*Cuándo ir a Teotihuacán
-Cualquier día del año está abierto, siendo los domingos el día de la semana con mayor afluencia en visitantes, eso si, te recomendamos subir las pirámides temprano para que el rayo del sol no te agobie demasiado.

Zapotitlán Salinas, Puebla. Reserva de la biosfera Tehuacán Cuicatlán.
Zapotitlán Salinas
Población que fue fundada por indígenas mixtecos y popolocas en la época prehispánica, durante los años 1000-1560. Se encuentra ubicada en la reserva de la biosfera Tehuacán--Cuicatlán y por su vegetación, fauna y actividades de sustentabilidad es admirada por muchos.
A continuación se describen algunos lugares recreativos que puedes visitar (mismo orden del video).
*Jardín Botánico Helia Bravo hollis: Se localiza en Zapotitlán Salinas, Puebla, en una zona semi-árida en la Reserva de la Biosfera Tehuacán Cuicatlán y alberga más de 300 especies endémicas, una de las más codiciadas la pata de elefante, que por su misticismo hay leyendas sobre ella.
* Cerro Cuthá: uno de los cerros más altos de Zapotitlán y en la cima se encuentra la tumba Popoloca del Gobernante Xapotl. Pará llegar hasta este lugar, se camina aproximadamente una hora entre veredas nada amables, pues debes tener cuidado de la vegetación, clima e insectos. También en este cerro se encuentra el mirador, que es un montículo de piedras, el cual se escala para así poder admirar la vista panorámica que nos ofrece este lugar.
* Cárcavas: son cavidades formadas por la erosión de la tierra blanda causada por las lluvias. En estos terrenos, podrás recorrer las laberintosas cavidades de diferentes dimensiones por lo que si eres una persona claustrofóbica está actividad no es recomendada para ti.
* Prismas basalticos: Se encuentran ubicados en el cerro Grande y son formaciones rocosas regulares, con forma de prismas poligonales. Se forman por fracturas de la roca durante el enfriamiento de la lava basáltica en algunos cráteres donde la lava no llega a desbordarse. En este recorrido podrás escalar los prismas y observar los diferentes escenarios que la naturaleza ha creado a través de muchos años.
* Canteras de onix: Don Leobardo Sánchez, quien te realiza un recorrido en las canteras y túneles, de donde él realiza la extracción de onix color café.
* Capilla enterrada: en las Ventas, Zapotitlán Salinas, Pue. Se encuentra las ruinas de una capilla que pareciera estar enterrada a simple vista, no saben con exactitud su origen pero alberga diferentes historias que cuentan su procedencia.
* Pozas: podrás recorrer y observar las pozas que se forman a lo largo del río salado.
* Gastronomía: El restaurante Itandehui prepara comida tradicional donde podrás degustar de platillos exquisitos.
* Balneario la huerta: un lugar recreativo donde podrás nadar, comer y conocer la historia que guarda este sitio.

La cuna de la cerámica en México: La tradición milenaria del barro bruñido en el Valle de Tehuacán.
El Valle de Tehuacán en Puebla es el hábitat originario de Mesoamérica, pues ha sido habitado durante más de 10 mil años. La región se caracteriza por su gran riqueza cultural y natural. Sus primeros habitantes domesticaron el maíz, y crearon la primera cerámica del México antiguo.
Las tierras semiáridas se extienden a lo largo de valles y montañas. Nos acercamos a la comunidad indígena Ngiwá o Popoloca de los Reyes Metzontla, cercana a la ciudad de Tehuacán, Puebla. Aquí se dedican a la producción de cerámica desde tiempos inmemorables.
Se ha comprobado que la composición de la cerámica de los Reyes Metzontla es idéntica a las piezas prehispánicas, lo que sugiere que su técnica de elaboración tradicional no ha variado mucho desde hace siglos.

Rastros y huellas de Dinosaurios ???? en el Valle de Tehuacán, Puebla.
Nos internamos a la zona semiárida de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Tehuacán donde se encuentra la pequeña comunidad de San Juan Raya, y sus huellas de dinosaurios, uno de los tesoros paleontológico más importantes de Puebla.
Parece inverosímil asimilar que este semidesierto con vegetación de matorral xerófilo en el pasado colindaba con el mar. Aquí los cerros esconden un yacimiento paleontológico bautizado como Formación San Juan Raya. Entre sus rocas esconde la historia del cretácico, periodo en el que este pedazo de territorio estaba en la costa del mar de Tetis.

In this México rural festival, you could buy tickets to win farm animals. This Youtube travel short gives you a quick glimpse into the culture of rural México.
While at this festival to raise money for young men to go to Catholic seminary school, I bought a ticket. I didn't win a farm animal but I was a winner. I did win 2 chicken eggs.

Southern Puebla State: Cactus Biosphere Reserve - MEXICO w/Mike Vondruska - Travel Guide
Have you ever been to a cactus forest? The Helia Bravo Hollis Botanical Garden in the state of Puebla in Mexico has one.
This botanical garden is a place people can go to learn about the different species of cacti. Local guides are there to take small groups down well-groomed paths through towering cactus.
The Helia Bravo Hollis Botanical Garden is just a small section of the vast Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve which comprised 490,000 hectares or 1,211,000 acres.
Yea ... IT'S HUGE!
To give you an idea of its size, you could almost fit all of Yosemite National Park and Smokey Mountain National Park (both located in the United States) into this vast biosphere reserve.
The Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Reserve is a recognized World Heritage Site by the organization, UNESCO.
The Helia Bravo Hollis Botanical Garden is located approximately 4 hour SE of Mexico City, 2 hours SE of the city of Puebla, and a little less than 3 hours north from the city of Oaxaca.
