Varna Bulgaria Amazing Walking Streets from The Black Sea to Cathedral. - Varna Bulgaria - ECTV

Varna Bulgaria Amazing Walking Streets from The Black Sea to Cathedral

Varna is the largest city in northeastern Bulgaria, located on the shores of the Black Sea and Varna Lake and is the administrative center of the homonymous municipality and district. It is the largest city in Northern Bulgaria and on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, as well as the third largest in the country. According to the GRAO, the current population is 348,712 people, and the permanent address is 369,553 people (as of March 15, 2023).[2] On its territory is located the Admiralty of the Bulgarian Army. Varna is often referred to as the sea capital[3] or summer capital of Bulgaria[4][5] and is an important tourist and educational center, a starting point for the resorts along the Northern Black Sea coast.

A golden treasure from the Chalcolithic Age is stored in the town, which until the excavations of the City of Birds near Pazardzhik is believed to be the oldest gold treasure in the world, which gave the name of the so-called. Culture Varna.[6] After excavations were made in the city of birds near Pazardzhik, it was found that the processed gold found there is 200-300 years older than the objects in the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis.[7] The International Ballet Competition is held in Varna, held every two years at the Summer Theater of Varna during the summer season.[8][9]

Varna is a candidate for European Youth Capital 2016 and European Capital of Culture 2019.[10] Among the international cultural events that take place in the city are the festivals Varna Summer, Love is Folly, The Golden Dolphin, August in the Arts, Videoholica and others.

In ancient times, the city was named Odessos. This is what Theophanes called Odessopolis, and in other authors it is also found as Ulisopolis. After the 14th century in historical documents the name Odessos disappeared. During the reign of Emperor Tiberius (27-AD), the city was briefly called Tiberiopolis. In his research, archaeologist Pavel Georgiev[11] He points out that there is an inscription from 557, in which, after the death of his wife Theodora, Emperor Justinian dedicated to her a city that he named Theodoriada, located on the northern shore of Varna Lake. During the reign of Empress Irene at the end of the the century, he also briefly bore her name, Irinopolis.

It is assumed that its current name comes from the Old Bulgarian * varna – black, vran.[12] Another theory associates the name with the word lime, meaning waters and mineral spring.[13] The first mention of the name Varna is in the annals of the offensive of the ruler Asparuh and his troops, who ... They came to the so-called. Varna, near Odessos... and the settlement of the Proto-Bulgarians in these places, but it is not clear whether the name refers to an area, a settlement or a river. Theophanes writes that in 774 Emperor Constantine V went by sea on a campaign against the Proto-Bulgarians, but when he came to Varna he was frightened and returned. Konstantin Irechek believes that this name belonged not to the old town of Odessos, but to an area in the vicinity, to the Provadiyska River and Devnya Lake. Konstantin Porfirogen writes that Varna is a river, the same is the opinion of A. Vretos. On the other hand, in 765, Nicephorus reported that the kavkhan of Khan Umar had been killed by his servants in Varna. This murder could not have happened in old Odessos, as it is considered to still be a Byzantine possession. Maybe Varna is some kind of settlement around Devnya Lake. According to the Shkorpil brothers, there was a Thracian settlement named Varna on the shore of the lake, in the area under Dzhanavara, where many archaeological materials are found today. Dimitar Dimitrov believes that Varna was a settlement in the western part of today's town, where there are necropolises from the time of the Chalcolithic. The Shkorpil brothers are looking for the Thracian root named Varnas.[14] At the beginning of the 20th century, Archimandrite Inokentiy in his studies mentioned that the name Varna comes from the Hunno-Avar word varosh, meaning city. Krustyu Mirski suggests that the name comes from lime, limestone, given that in Varna and its surroundings the land and stones are calcareous...

Between December 20, 1949 and October 20, 1956, Varna was named Stalin, after Joseph Stalin.[15][16]

Why Are Parks Messy in Bulgaria? 🇧🇬

What is the point of parks? 🤷🏼‍♂️
In Bulgaria 🇧🇬 I found they have a very interesting perspective of what a park should be.

In this country, they value nature quite a lot. The cities are full of parks and gardens, but the interesting part is that, the bigger the park, the less they “touch it”, meaning they let nature grow wild.

As someone said to me: “ people come to the park to get in touch with nature… this is nature, enjoy it and let it be” 🙌 💯

Some of us have gotten so used to comfort that we expect everything to match our preferences and needs, but if there is one thing we need to maintain as it is, it’s nature 🌳

104 - Bulgaria - Rila Monastery and Boyana Church

#bulgaria #traventuria #rilamonastery
We took a day trip with Traventuria to 2 of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, first the Boyana Church in the foothills of Vitosha Mountain. We then headed on to the fabulous Rila Monastery. Established in the 10th century by St John of Rila, a hermit canonized by the Orthodox Church. His ascetic dwelling and tomb became a holy site and were transformed into a monastic complex which played an important role in the spiritual and social life of medieval Bulgaria. Destroyed by fire at the beginning of the 19th century, the complex was rebuilt between 1834 and 1862. A characteristic example of the Bulgarian Renaissance (18th–19th centuries), the monument symbolizes the awareness of a Slavic cultural identity following centuries of occupation.
Come with us as we experience these beautiful tranquil places.

Village of Kovachevets, area Targovishte, Bulgarian property for sale

Building plot for sale 1320m2 freehold £999 on ebay

That is Bulgaria - 31 Krepcha Rock Monastery - скален манастир село Крепча - Търговищте.

Това е България - В това видео:
Крепчански скален манастир
Най-рано датираният надпис в скален манастир в България и на Балканският полустров. Скален манастир село Крепча, Търговище.

To protect the monastery against vandalism you can visit the monastery upon request. You can easily do this by calling the number mentioned on the sign at the entrance.
+359 899 91 80 08
For weekend visits, it is advisable to call in advance and request and reserve your visit.

The Krepcha Monastery is located in northeastern Bulgaria, in the province of Targovishte, Popovo municipality in the village of Krepcha, 22 km north of the town of Popovo. The village is beautifully situated in a rocky valley where you can also take a nice walk in the area.

From Popovo you take the road towards Ruse. In Krepcha you turn left towards Golyamo Gradishte. The rock monastery is just outside the village on your right. Bring binoculars for your visit to the rock monastery.

The Krepcha monastery is the oldest medieval rock monastery found in the Balkan region. It must have originated during the 1st Bulgarian Empire, late 800 - early 900, during the reign of Tsar Simeon the Great.
The monastery originally had 3 floors consisting of living cells, a church and a rock tomb to the right of the church.
Archaeological research shows that in the 9th and 10th centuries hermits lived here reclusive with a strong faith, penance, and life in simplicity.

Special features of the monastery
The walls of the monastery show the oldest inscriptions in Cyrillic from 921. Take your binoculars and look to the right of the church entrance. There you will see 2 cave openings located above each other. Concentrate on the entrance of the top cave. There you see the Cyrillic text in a flat part of the rock wall. Striking is the sign of the cross that has been incorporated into the text. You can see a photo of the text inside the rock church, on the rock wall to the right of the door.

The text at the cave opening states
„ In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Righteous Father Anthony is buried here ϯ.
He used the church as a grain storehouse to fulfill God's expectations.
Michael wrote unworthily,
Amen.“

A second text is mentioned;
„In October 6430 (921) Holy Father Anthon died
October on the 10the day buried.“

Father Anthony is regarded as the founder of the monastery. Continuing on the lyrics, he died on October 10, 921. It is believed that Father Anthony also worked miracles. That also explains his sacred declaration after his death.

Thanks, come back soon.
Philip

Both texts are also a reference to a secluded life in the early 900s . That is very special. Father Anthony died 25 years before the inauguration of Asceticism by St-Ivan Rilski. Ascetics are believers who live withdrawn in prayer, faith, penance and solitude in order to draw closer to God.

Until the discovery of the Krepcha rock monastery, it was widely believed that the Rila hermits were the founders of Asceticism. From the texts on the rock face of the Krepcha monastery we can say that Father Anthony was the forerunner of this tradition, a follow-up to the 5th century tradition of retreating to the Egyptian desert. No doubt that was an even greater effort in atonement.

Over Father Anthony is known to be a highly educated son of a prosperous family who had close connections with the upper classes of society and the Preslav nobility, the then capital of the 1st Bulgarian Empire.

However, with the example of Saint Anthony the Great, Anthony decided to devote himself to monastic life. He left his family and changed his comfortable life for a secluded life in rough caves, filling his days with prayer, penance and fasting. He soon gained followers and that's how the idea came to build the rock monastery.
