MUST DO Anchorage, Alaska!!! What to do while waiting for flight home. (Red eye)

What to do in Anchorage while waiting for your late flight home (redeye) is a question that comes up often. At Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport many of the flights out are late in the afternoon or redeyes. So weather you did Alaska on your own or you were on an Alaskan cruise and Anchorage is your disembarkation port, many travelers fine themselves with a pocket of time that does not really allot for a grand adventure but is too much to sit at the airport. This list of Top 5 Things to do in Anchorage While Waiting for a Flight are perfect little adventures in or around anchorage so you don't feel nervous about missing your flight. So as Doodle the Travel Bugs Alaskan vacation come to an end, we try to squeeze out a few more adventures before flying home to the lower 48. So we organized our favorites into a Top 5 Must Do Anchorage, Alaska. And give you our tips for Anchorage while answering the question, What to do while waiting for you flight home from Alaska.

Anchorage Alaska things to do is a great top five list if your cruise disembarks in Anchorage. These 5 are the best of Anchorage if you want to squeeze in a couple more adventures before you depart Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Enjoy our top 5 Anchorage. Cheers to making the best of your time in Alaska and thank you for letting us be your Anchorage travel guides. These are the Anchorage, Alaska must do travel list! And we think they are the best of Anchorage and Anchorage day trips.

Number 5 on our list of what to do and see in Anchorage while waiting for a flight is...

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
Mile, 79, Seward Hwy
Girdwood, AK 99587

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation is the farthest excursion on our top 5 list while waiting for a flight at about 53 minutes away.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center's mission is to preserve Alaska's wildlife through conservation, research, education and quality animal care. It was a great place to see wolves, reindeer, musk ox, bear and we even got to feed a moose!

Number 4 on our list of must see Anchorage, Alaska while waiting for a redeye is...

Thunderbird Falls Trail and Eklutna Lake
Anchorage, AK 99567

Thunderbird Falls Trail is an easy 1.8 mile out and back trail that features a waterfall and a love lock bridge. This trail is great for all skill levels.
And just a bit down the road inside Chugach State Park is beautiful Eklutna Lake. There are many ways to explore this glacier fed lake. It's a popular spot to rent a kayak or bike.

Number 3 on our top 5 list of excursions near Ted Stevens Airport is...

The Snow Plow Train
Potter Historical Site
Seward Hwy, Anchorage, Alaska

See an old rotary snow plow train. I would not want to be stuck on the tracks as this thing was coming along. It's job was to keep the rails clear of ice and snow.

Number 2 on our list of things to do before a flight in Anchorage....

Alaska Zoo
4731 O'Malley Rd.
Anchorage, AK

This zoo has the widest variety of animals native to Alaska. The zoo is set on a beautiful wooded hill. The Alaska Zoo focuses on wildlife conservation and animal rehabilitation.

The Number on slot on our top 5 list while waiting for a redeye in Anchorage, Alaska is....

Lake Hood Seaplane Base
Anchorage, AK

This is the largest and the busiest Seaplane of floatplane airport in the world. It is located only 5 minutes away from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. This was a great place for my kids to spend the day. It was so much fun watching planes take off and land from and in the water.

We hope this top five waiting for a flight list helps. If you dock here from a cruise. I highly recommend renting a car.

I Saw A Rotary Snow TRAIN On Vacation Near Anchorage ALASKA

We where driving along the Seward Highway just outside anchorage Alaska. Suddenly on the side of the road we spotted something. It was a massive rotary snow train!! Obviously we had to stop here before we continued onto Wasilla Alaska! I believe this train was made sometime around the 1930's however all the signs where buried in snow, so I'm not sure. To anyone considering going on vacation to Alaska I definitely recommend it! #Anchorage alaska #Rotary train #Seward highway #Travel #Vacation #Wasilla alaska #alaska realtor #palmer alaska #trains #travel 2023 #wasilla #travel tips #snow plow #anchorage alaska winter #move to alaska

There are two campgrounds on the east end of the lake. They are Big Lake North and Big Lake South State Recreation Sites. Both offer camping, picnicking, boat launches and water-based recreation. There are also private campgrounds available in the area. Hundreds of private homes and cabins dot over fifty miles of shoreline. Please respect private property.

Nancy Lake State Recreation Area | Alaska

Went on a multi day packrafting trip in Nancy Lake State Recreation Area spanning Tanaina, Milo, Ardaw, and Jacknife lake. We found a really nice camping spot, with a fire pit. Jackknife lake was a mosquito fiesta, but the other were not to bad. the portage's' were a little bit of a walk, but nothing we couldn't handle.
