Subbotnik Jews of Russia
In the 19th century, thousands of Russian Christians began observing Shabat. Some rejected Christianity and converted to Judaiam. They became known as Subbotniks, righteous proselites and Judaizers. Hundreds of them immigrated to the Land of Israel. Most of the Subbotniks settled in newly established settlements in Galilee. The most prominent of them were the families of Dubrovin, Kurakin, Protopopov, Nechaev, Sazonov and Matveev. Why did they convert to Judaism? What was their fate? What was the fate of those who remained in Russia? Are there any Subbotniks in Russia today? In this video I am trying to answer these questions.0:00 Rosh Pina
