Places to see in ( Sutton Coldfield - UK )

The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, more colloquially known as Sutton Coldfield or simply Sutton, is a town and civil parish in Birmingham, West Midlands, England. Sutton Coldfield lies about 7 miles (10 km) northeast of Birmingham City Centre and borders Little Aston, North Warwickshire, Lichfield, Erdington and South Staffordshire.

Areas of Sutton Coldfield include:

Boldmere
Falcon Lodge
Four Oaks
Little Aston
Maney
Mere Green
Roughley
Minworth
Walmley
Wylde Green

Sutton Coldfield borders New Oscott, Erdington, Streetly, the district of North Warwickshire and Lichfield and Tamworth in Staffordshire. The area in general is regarded by its own populace as one of the most prestigious locations in the Birmingham area.

The area is home to Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in England. It has an area of 2,224.2 acres (9.001 km2) and is used as part of the course for the Great Midlands Fun Run, sponsored by the Sutton Coldfield Observer. The park is a national nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. New Hall Valley, which separates Walmley and Maney, is the location of New Hall Valley Country Park

Sutton Coldfield has been an affluent area in the past leading to the construction of manors and other large houses. Several have been renovated into hotels such as the New Hall Hotel, Moor Hall Hotel, Moxhull Hall Hotel, and Ramada Hotel and Resort Penns Hall. Peddimore Hall, a Scheduled Ancient Monument near Walmley, is a double moated hall used as a private residence. Demolished manor houses include Langley Hall, the former residence of William Wilson and Four Oaks Hall, designed by William Wilson. William Wilson is also known to have designed Moat House and lived in it with his wife, Jane Pudsey.

There are two conservation areas in Sutton Coldfield. The High Street, King Edward's Square, Upper Clifton Road, Mill Street, and the northern end of Coleshill Street are protected by the High Street conservation area, which is part covered by an Article 4 Direction. At the centre of the conservation area is Holy Trinity Church, which is fronted by the Vesey Memorial Gardens, created in memory of Bishop John Vesey. Beyond the railway bridge, which crosses the Sutton Park Line and separates the Lichfield Road and High Street, is the Anchorage Road conservation area which protects buildings such as Moat House by William Wilson.

Linked by regular and fast services from Sutton Coldfield railway station on the Cross-City Line to the centre of Birmingham, Sutton is mostly a commuter dormitory town for people who work in Birmingham. The Roman road Icknield Street cuts through Sutton Park to the west of the town. The town is bypassed to the north by the M6 Toll, the first toll motorway in the UK.

About Places 2 Go Travel // P2GT
=====================================================
My name is Jay, I live in England, UK. On my travels I'm joined by my good lady, Bronte (most of the time), my Dad (some of the time) our wider family occassionally and my dog when not travelling overseas.

What's This Channel About: It started as a travel diary, as a way to share our experiences with our friends and family. A wider audience took an interest in my videos and things just grew from there.

Why We Love To Travel: As a young adult I was always too busy working to take vacations. My mindset was fixed on building a successful business and this was always justified by telling myself that I'd travel once I'd made my fortunes. By the time I was 30 years old I'd only been on two overseas vacations and did not think I was missing out. Roll forward to 2015, Bronte finally convinced me to book a stay at an all inclusive resort in Fuerteventura. It was an amazing experience and I was instantly bitten by the travel bug and now want to see loads of different places and travel as much as we can.

How frequently Do you Travel : As frequently as possible, currently around seven times per year. We have commitments at home meaning we need to fit our travel plans in around everyday life.

Why Are We Not On Camera: These videos are about the places, adventures, experiences and destinations. The videos are not about me / us - I'm not a TV presenter and I have absolutely not desire to be in front of the camera. Whilst not adverse to being on camera it's just not what our videos are about at the moment.

What's in our kitbag: Canon SX540, Canon SX510, various GoPro cameras including the Hero 3 and the Hero 4 Black plus a Nextbase Dashcam and Samsung and Apple cameraphones.

Our Favorite Places 2 Go Travel: Canary Islands, especially Lanzarote & Fuerteventura are big favourites with us because of the near year round sun and relaxing vibes.

Sutton Coldfield, officially the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, is a suburban town and civil parish located in the Borough of Birmingham in the county of the West Midlands, England. Sutton Coldfield Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located around 7 miles northeast of Birmingham city centre is the suburban town of Sutton Coldfield, sometimes referred to as the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.

It is believed that Sutton Coldfield originated as a hamlet where a hunting lodge was based for leaders of the Kingdom of Mercia in post-Roman Britain. 'Sutton' is allegedly derived from 'Southun' referring to the town stead to the south of Tamworth and/or Lichfield in Staffordshire. 'Coldfield' is presumably a reference to charcoal burners that may have played a role in the area. It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as the manor of Sutone.

Sutton Coldfield has royal connections stretching back for several centuries. John Vesey, who was born here in the 15th century, became chaplain to King Henry VIII. After coming into wealth he became the town's leading benefactor. The town's emblem is the Tudor Rose, which is said to have originated from when Henry VIII gave a rose as a symbolic gesture to a young woman who had saved him by shooting a wild boar with an arrow. In 1528 Henry granted the town a charter and the right to be called The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, a title which has stuck to this day, albeit in a formal context.

In 1862 Sutton Coldfield railway station opened, following the construction of a line from Birmingham. This transformed it into a commuter town. Some of the more wealthy citizens from Birmingham moved there as a means of escaping the pollution from the various factories in the city.

Historically part of the county of Warwickshire, Sutton Coldfield merged with Birmingham in 1974 when the county of West Midlands was formed. It is seen as an affluent suburb of Birmingham, with a number of properties selling for over a million pounds in the area. Several football players past and present for nearby clubs including Aston Villa, West Brom and Birmingham City have taken residence in Sutton Coldfield. It is also the birthplace of heavy metal legend Rob Halford of Judas Priest fame.
