Top 10 Must Visit Places in Thailand 🇹🇭 2024
Thai ethnic group migrated into mainland Southeast Asia over a period of centuries. The word Siam (Thai: สยาม RTGS: Sayam) may have originated from Pali (suvaṇṇabhūmi, land of gold), Sanskrit श्याम (śyāma, dark), or Mon ရာမည (rhmañña, stranger), with likely the same root as Shan and Ahom. Xianluo (Chinese: 暹羅) was the Chinese name for the Ayutthaya Kingdom, merged from Suphannaphum city-state, centered in modern-day Suphan Buri; and Lavo city-state, centered in modern-day Lop Buri. To the Thai, the name of their country has mostly been Mueang Thai.

Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat - 600 Year Old Temple - Suphan Buri Thailand
This ancient temple is located on the western Bank of the Tha Chin River. The temple, whose history dates back not less than 600 years ago, was once in the heart of the ancient town Suphannaphum. The main stupa once housed relics of the Lord Buddha, but it was raided for treasure and neglected in ruins. The main target of the raiders was the famous version of Suphan Buri’s votire tabletss, which are among the top five sought after series of votire tablets of Thailand.
The story of Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat of Suphanburi appears on the inscription on the gold plate found from the chamber in the stupa and the top part of the stupa in 1913. The inscription records that the king ordered the construction of a stupa (Phra Prang) and then it was restored by his son later.
Some scholars agree that the king who built the stupa may refer to Somdej Phra
Nakarintrathirat or may refer to Somdej Phra Borom Rachatirat I (Chao Sam Phraya) leading to the assumption that Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Suphanburi was established in the Ayutthaya period (the 15th century).
The stupa was built from bricks but without cement works. Thus, archaeologists presumed that this stupa is the art from the U Thong Suphannaphum period, the pre-Ayutthaya art.
Suphan Buri is off the normal tourist trail but has some worth while sites, this one being the centerpiece for history lovers. It is worth an hour of your time if you are in the area or a day trip from Bangkok to see it with many of the other sites.

Wat Tha Chedi, Suphan Buri, Thailand
Interesting temple complex on the west bank of the Tha Chin river, dotted with models of famous European landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, and the giant Atom sculpture from Belgium! Plenty of traditional Thai Buddhist iconography to take in, including two large seated monks, atop a raised temple structure. Incorrectly thought I was in Pathum Thani, when in fact I was in Suphan Buri, apologies, it was an early one!

Road trip to Saphan Khong Floating Market, Suphan Buri, Thailand. สุ่มปลายักษ์ ตลาดน้ำสะพานโค้ง
We travel by car to Saphan Khong Floating Market in Suphan Buri, Thailand. It's located near the Thong Pradit Temple, along the Song Phi Nong Canal. This is a quiet late afternoon with almost no visitors, which makes it a perfect day for bird watching. We see lots of Asian Openbill Storks and a beautiful Javan Pond Heron, as well as some lovely Asian Golden Weavers in a lake filled with Lotus plants. The market is built as connected bridges made by bamboo, and one of the highlights is a huge bamboo tower (sadly we didn't climb it), which is said to be the largest in the world. Another highlight, for us, is the warm and very friendly people!
