Niagara Falls - 11 Things to Do! (USA Travel Guide)
There are so many things to do at Niagara Falls in New York, like taking a boat ride under the falls, night fireworks, or a trolley ride along the Niagara River. Let us be your travel guide as we explore the US side of the falls and show you these cool places. Just a note that while the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are on the US side and Horseshoe Falls are on the Canadian side, you can still see all of them.
This video is part of our epic road trip to all 5 US Great Lakes (Ontario, Erie, Huron, Superior & Michigan) where we visited Niagara Falls in New York, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pictured Rocks and Apostle Islands National Lakeshores, Mackinac Island, the Porcupine Mountains (Porkies as they say in da UP), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, the Lakeshore bike trail in Chicago, Frankenmuth the year-round Christmas city - are you tired yet? Oh and we ate a lot of pasties and fudge. Like a lot of fudge. So much fudge that we actually take no offense to the Yoopers and Trolls calling us Fudgies. We've been called much worse. Stay tuned for a ton of videos showing our adventures like dune climbing, kayaking, hiking or biking, that we will continue to link below as they are released. The United States of America is a huge place and this is just one small portion of it.

Lockport, New York is a charming city in Niagara County, known for its rich history, particularly tied to the Erie Canal. The canal played a key role in the city's growth in the 19th century, and its remnants are celebrated with museums, boat tours, and historical reenactments.

Lockport, New York, has a fascinating history closely tied to the construction of the Erie Canal, one of the most ambitious engineering projects of its time. The city's name is derived from the locks on the canal, a series of 5 originally, later expanded to two sets of 5 locks, built to enable boats to navigate the 60-foot elevation difference in the Niagara Escarpment. Completed in 1825, the Erie Canal transformed Lockport into a bustling hub of commerce and industry as goods could now be transported more efficiently from the Great Lakes to New York City.
The canal attracted workers, businesses, and families, rapidly growing the town. Notably, Nathan Roberts, the chief engineer, used an innovative flight of five locks design, creating an impressive staircase effect, which is still one of Lockport’s most famous landmarks. The city became an industrial center, with mills, factories, and warehouses springing up to take advantage of the canal’s water power.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Lockport continued to grow, incorporating schools, government buildings, and churches, many of which still stand today as architectural reminders of the era. Today, the Erie Canal remains central to Lockport’s identity, and visitors can explore its history at the Erie Canal Discovery Center or take a ride on the Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises, where they can experience the locks in action. The city is also part of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, preserving the canal’s legacy and its impact on New York and American history.
