Conakry is the capital of Guinea, a country in West Africa. The city sits on the slender Kaloum Peninsula, which extends into the Atlantic Ocean. Just offshore, the Loos Islands are known for their beaches, dense palm forests and water sports. In town, the enormous Grand Mosque has 4 tall, elegant minarets. Next to the mosque, the large Botanical Garden features kapok trees and tropical flowers. ― Google
Conakry Grand Mosque in Conakry, Guinea
The Conakry Grand Mosque is a mosque in Conakry located north of the Conakry Botanical Garden. The mosque was built by Sékou Touré with funding from King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. It is the largest mosque in West Africa and the fifth in the world. Its four minarets, covered in green tiles (the color of Islam) can be seen from far away. Women must cover themselves from head to foot before they can enter. The mosque has 2,500 places on the upper level for women and 10,000 below for men. The gardens of the mosque contain the Camayanne Mausoleum, including Samouri Touré, Sékou Touré and Alpha Yaya.
On 28 September 2009 a demonstration against the military junta at a city stadium was violently suppressed by security forces, with hundreds of deaths and dozens of injuries. On Friday 2 October the bodies of 508 victims were laid in the esplanade in front of the mosque. A large body of prostitutes were present, and people started throwing stones at them. Siempre me habían llegado noticias de guerra y enfermedades terribles como el ébola de este país, también me dijeron que no podría cruzar la frontera por el mal estado de la “carretera” y el panorama era poco alentador antes de llegar a Guinea Konakri.
Una vez en la frontera comprobé que los militares eran amables y diligentes, y con el paso de los kilómetros por caminos espectaculares, pude atravesar ríos, montañas y selvas, algunos de los paisajes más bellos que jamás vieron mis ojos. Toda la gente que encontré en el camino, sin excepción alguna, me trató amistosamente. Y con el paso de los días quedé prendado de este bello país, un paraíso escondido.

Après quelques jours dans la capitale de la Gambie, Banjul passé pour la première fois dans un hôtel 4 étoiles je repars dans le sud direction la Casamance puis la Guinée Bissau.
La Gambie est un petit pays enclavé dans le Sénégal, indépendant depuis 1994 après l'occupation Portugaise, anglaise et l'appartenance au Sénégal. Le jour de mon départ, dans la salle de conférence de l'hôtel Laico Atlantic, de nombreuses personnes en habits de fête et militaires y pénétrent. Alors? Je dois y aller également.
C'est à ma grande surprise que je découvre que pour la première fois, une femme est élue en tant que Maire de la capitale, les femme crient, dansent, j'en ai presque les larmes aux yeux. Je vous présente donc Rohey Malick Lowe, 46 ans, femme d'affaires et Maire.
Enfin je prend la route début d'après midi, des rencontres, je passe par une petite frontière avant de rencontrer Lamine et Moctar qui m'amènent à Zinguichor.

After a few days in the capital of the Gambia, Banjul, I stayed for the first time in a 4 star hotel. Then, I left in the south direction to Casamance and Guinea Bissau.
The Gambia is a small landlocked country in Senegal, independent since 1994 after the Portuguese, English occupation and belonging to Senegal. On the day of my departure, in the conference room of the Hotel Laico Atlantic, many people in festive and military clothes entered. So? I have to go too!
It is to my surprise that I discover that for the first time a woman is elected as mayor of the capital, women scream, dance and it almost make me cry. I present to you Rohey Malick Lowe, 46 years old, businesswoman and mayor.
Finally I took the road early afternoon, meeting many people, I went through a small border before meeting Lamine and Moctar who brought me to Zinguichor.
