From Casual to Fine: Discovering Dining Excellence in Sheboygan County
We recommend a lot of excellent day trips around here and when you inevitably go check these places out, you need to know where to find your three square meals that day. Well, when you visit Sheboygan County, we’ve got your day covered for delicious eats all day long!
Join our host, Andrea Boehlke, as she spends her day in Sheboygan County and tours three of our favorite spots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Judi’s Place in Oostburg is first up for breakfast in a diner setting that showcases the local flavors not only in their classic dishes but also in their decor. Andrea gets the chance to meet with Judi herself to hear about this local favorite’s beginnings and the ways her diner reflects the Oostburg community.
Lunchtime takes Andrea to Elkhart Lake to try out Lake Street Cafe, which is famed for making everything on their menu entirely from scratch. Andrea samples some of the popular menu items and talks with the owner and chef about their most inspired dishes as well as this restaurant’s most unique quality: its separate casual and formal dining rooms, fit for any occasion!
To end her day, Andrea heads to Kohler to stop in at The Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery for dinner and a glass of wine. Andrea dines with Tom Nye to discuss this Wisconsin winery’s beginnings and sample some of his personal favorites off the menu and wine list. They also take the time to tour the grounds and see the variety of experiences that can be had through the seasons.

Sheboygan
This video is about my visit to Sheboygan, a one day trip just before going back to Chicago for my journey back to Europe
A County Known Around the World: Sheboygan County | S35 Ep. 8
Wisconsin is home to many things known around the world but rarely are so many of those found inside of a single county. Today on Discover Wisconsin, we’re touring Sheboygan County’s renowned offerings and showing you why it’s the county known around the world.
We begin with a bit of history with some help from Wisconsin Historical Society’s Wade House Historic Site, which gives its visitors a firsthand experience of life in the mid-1800s. Visitors are taken on a trip through time as they tour a working, water-powered saw mill, blacksmith, and historical hotel! Another big piece of Sheboygan County’s history comes from its many pillar companies that have helped to shape the county over the years. Our host, Andrea Boehlke, visits with Louie Gentine of Sargento Foods and Laura Kohler of The Kohler Company to learn more about these iconic companies’ beginnings.
What episode of Discover Wisconsin would be complete without sampling some of the local cuisine? Eric Paulsen visits the city of Sheboygan where the Sheboygan hard roll was born and a husband and wife team have brought an authentic taste of Italy to the county with their 4 (FOUR) must-see restaurants. Eric sits down with Stefano and Whitney Viglietti to learn about Trattoria Stefano, Il Ritrovo, Field to Fork, and Stefano’s Slo Food Market, which are all located on the same block of downtown Sheboygan and offer some of the best food that you’ll find anywhere. If that wasn’t already enough, Eric also has the scoop on a regular food truck meetup that will ensure that everyone in your family can find something delightful to eat in one location.
Golfing professionals may already be aware of Sheboygan County’s astounding golf courses but it is time for everyone else to get in the know! Eric checks in with several local golf courses that offer one-of-a-kind golfing experiences for golfers of any skill level. Destination Kohler offers two locations, Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run, that have become known around the world by hosting the Ryder Cup and PGA Championships. While they are challenging for the professional golfer, these beautiful courses remain accessible to novice golfers as well thanks to the thoughtful consideration put into their design by Pete Dye. Eric also visits the Quit Qui Oc Golf Club and Sunset Hills Golf Course & Driving Range where it’s clear that this is a community that loves golfing and is ensuring that the game stays thriving for generation after generation of golfers.
We couldn’t spend time this close to Lake Michigan and not go fishing, so Eric met up with local charter fishing expert, Dumper Dan. Yes, that's really his name. Yes, we ask him about it. Dumper Dan has been in the business for decades and his fleet of boats regularly haul in some of the best freshwater fish that you can find.
Lastly, before leaving town, Eric dries off at Road America to catch a few races. We asked around and can confirm that this track is THE favorite of so many drivers and fans alike. There’s nothing like the speed (and sound) that these cars can hit on a straightaway!
Whether you’re visiting by land or by sea, Sheboygan County has something for everyone. Come experience some world-class living right here in Wisconsin!

Driving Around Beautiful Sheboygan, WI in 4k Video
Filmed on Saturday, May 27, 2023, I drive around downtown Sheboygan, Wisconsin to see what's going on.
Sheboygan is a city in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. The population was 49,929 at the 2020 census.
The city is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Sheboygan River, about 50 miles north of Milwaukee and 64 mi south of Green Bay.
Before its settlement by European Americans, the Sheboygan area was home to Native Americans, including members of the Potawatomi, Chippewa, Ottawa, Winnebago, and Menominee tribes.
The Menominee ceded this land to the United States in the 1831 Treaty of Washington. Following the treaty, the land became available for sale to American settlers.
Migrants from New York, Michigan, and New England were among the first white Americans to settle this area in the 1830s, though the French had been present in the region since the 17th century and had intermarried with local people.
By 1849, a wave of middle-class immigration triggered by the revolutions of 1848 had made the community known for its German population. As Major William Williams wrote on June 26, 1849:
Arrived at Sheboigin on the Wisconsin side, a small town, population purhaps from 700 to 1000. This is a promising place. There are a great many best class of Germans settling around it. 'Tis all along this Lake so far quite an interesting country.
Between 1840 and 1890, Protestant Dutch immigrants also settled in the area, as did Irish refugees fleeing the Great Famine. A neighborhood in northwestern Sheboygan was settled by Slovenian immigrants.
Sheboygan County is well known for its bratwurst. The Sheboygan Jaycees sponsor Bratwurst Days, an annual fund-raising festival that includes the Johnsonville World Bratwurst Eating Championship.
Sheboygan was the site of a proposed new spaceport called Spaceport Sheboygan.
Sheboygan is a notable surfing destination, and has been called The Malibu of the Midwest.” Sheboygan is considered to be one of the best places to surf in the Great Lakes region. Sheboygan hosted the annual Dairyland Surf Classic from 1988 to 2012, the largest lake surfing competition in the world.
As of the census of 2020, the population was 49,929.
The racial makeup of the city was 72.3% White, 11.1% Asian, 3.3% Black or African American, 0.6% Native American, 4.8% from other races, and 7.9% from two or more races. The population was 12.5% Hispanic or Latino of any race. #driving #travel #drivingtour

Surfing in Sheboygan-No Salt. No Sharks. No Worries
No worries in the Malibu of the Midwest
Resting on the shores of Lake Michigan, the city of Sheboygan has been affectionately dubbed the Malibu of the Midwest by the surf crowd. Surfing isn’t just a saltwater sport, or a warm-weather one either. Sheboygan has been a surf destination for over 50 years and is now known by many as the Freshwater Surf Capital of the World. Because of its location and geography, it has some of the best waves on the Great Lakes. You can surf all year, but prime time is winter. Being a lake surfer is an adventure; getting up at dawn to drive hours to search out spots and camping out to wait for the best surf. We are grateful to have pristine beaches and surf breaks that would make you think you’re at the ocean!

Sheboygan County: 3 Outdoor Adventures That Will Get You Moving
Sheboygan County is filled with fun surprises and today we’re going to show you three of our favorite adventures to try for yourself!
Our host, Eric Paulsen, has a lot to fit into his day touring the outdoor sights across Sheboygan County but he has a treat planned for himself at the end of the day if he can do it all.
Did you know that Sheboygan is the freshwater surfing capital of the WORLD? When Eric found this out, he just had to see it for himself. Has he surfed before? Nope! But with a lesson from Mike Miller at EOS Surf Shop, he’s ready to try it out for himself. The best time for surfing is in the fall but there’s always something fun to do on the water and EOS Surf Shop can set you up for a great time on waves large and small.
To dry off, Eric hops on his bike and rides out to one of Sheboygan County’s many bike trails: The Old Plank Road Trail. The 21 mile trail runs through the county with many trailheads along the way that allow you to customize your journey to any distance that you like and is a great way to see a lot of beautiful scenery.
For his last stop, Eric can’t resist visiting another lake. This time, it’s a lake that fits entirely inside of Sheboygan County, but that doesn’t make it any less great. It’s Elkhart Lake! After his long bike ride, Eric’s legs could use a rest, but that means it’s time to let his arms do the work by paddling around this beautiful destination. With the help of Elkhart Lake Watersports, found at The Shore Club Wisconsin, Eric has his pick of a fleet of water vehicles to choose from. Today feels like a kayak day and the friendly staff have him in a boat and enjoying all the smooth paddling and sights this lake has to offer in no time!
Eric’s reward at the end of his county-wide tour is found right on the shores of Elkhart Lake at Barefoot Tiki Bar where the vibe is beautiful lakefront views and delicious food and drinks. It’s the perfect place to unwind and refuel after a busy day of seeing the sights. Eric says that the fish tacos are a must try!
