A short trip to Shanhaiguan, China
We went for a short afternoon trip to Shanhaiguan on the outskirts of Qinhuangao.
There wasn't a lot of time, so we looked around a small part of the old (looking) town area. It is a much larger district than shown in this short video. Many of the buildings are shops, as you might expect in a tourist spot, and there are some museums as well.
If you walk down the side streets you can walk through residential areas, which in some ways are just as interesting as the touristy areas.
Part of the Great Wall passes through here as it winds its way down from the mountains towards its end at the Bohai sea (the Old Dragon's Head).

Ancient city of Shanhaiguan
Discover the Great Wall of China by the Sea at Shanhaiguan!
Today, I would be taking a day trip from Shenyang to Shanhaiguan. Shanhaiguan or Shanhai Pass was one of the major passes in the Great Wall of China. The Shanhai Pass had great importance for both trade and security in the past.
The Great Wall together with the Shanhai Pass was constructed to create a barrier to protect the narrow land corridor, between the mountains and the sea. The Old Dragon’s Head was the only part of the Great Wall that met the sea.
Please enjoy the video.

Hiking the Great Wall of China 2019 - Jiaoshan
Mountain Hiking Holidays 2019 Great Wall of China hiking trip. This is the video from Day #2. The hike on this section of the wall—from Jiaoshan entrance to Hejialou village—was probably the most challenging of the whole trip. From the vicinity of fortified Shanhaiguan (First Pass Under Heaven) the wall rises quickly into the mountains traversing steep, wild and rugged terrain before dropping to Hejialou village.

BEST PLACE TO TRAVEL
The Great Wall of China is an ancient series of walls and fortifications, totaling more than 13,000 miles in length, located in northern China. Perhaps the most recognizable symbol of China and its long and vivid history, the Great Wall was originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the third century B.C. as a means of preventing incursions from barbarian nomads. The best-known and best-preserved section of the Great Wall was built in the 14th through 17th centuries A.D., during the Ming dynasty. Though the Great Wall never effectively prevented invaders from entering China, it came to function as a powerful symbol of Chinese civilization’s enduring strength.

The Shanhai Pass: The Great Wall Meets The Sea
The Shanhai Pass literally means the mountain-sea-pass. It's a narrow passage between the mountain and sea and was one of the most fortified passes in China in the 16th century. Now it's a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Travel Guide - Fascinating facts about Great Wall of China - China #china #greatwall #travel
Discover with us interesting facts about the Great Wall of China. This longest wall in the world is one of the wonders of the world. The official length of the Great Wall of China is 21,196.18 kilometers. But this sophisticated defense system, with a history going back more than 2,300 years, did not only include walls. The construction of watchtowers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor also contributed to the defensive qualities of the Great Wall. This complex had two main purposes. In addition to defense against raids from the north of China, the Wall was also intended to support trade and protect the Silk Road.
The most popular parts of the Great Wall are near Beijing, 1 to 3 hours away by car. If you are going to visit the capital of China, don't miss the opportunity to discover the secrets of this breathtaking structure. Each of the distinct parts offers something interesting in terms of tourism and some of them are interconnected. Just choose what you prefer.
Section Mutianyu – fully-restored and the most family-friendly part of the Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs.
If you are looking for untouched nature and spectacular views, visit the Jinshanling section. The half-restored part belongs to the most beautiful and photogenic ones. There are 5 passes, 67 watchtowers and 3 beacon towers.
For those who like the challenge, you should visit the wild section Jiankou. Due to the number of damaged sections, it is dangerous but also very picturesque. It is built on a steep mountain ridge and offers a popular trip amongst experienced hikers.
Lakeside section Huanghuacheng is the only watery Great Wall in Beijing. This section combines beautiful lake scenery with majestic mountains and the ancient Great Wall.
Home to one of the largest fortresses of the defensive fortification is the Juyongguan section. It is also home to one of the three most famous passes along the Great Wall ever. The solid stronghold, which was the northern direct access to Beijing in the old days, has been fully restored to its original form.
A massive fortification with a touch of the sea is offered by the section Shanhaiguan. There is another of the three major passes in the Great Wall. It is supplemented by the easternmost fortress, positioned in a strategic location along the Ming Great Wall.
If you are looking for an easily accessible and easy-walking conditions section, you may visit Badaling – the most visited part. The part of the wall was reconstructed and in 1957 it was the first part of the wall opened to tourists. It belongs to the best-equipped sections.
