Alexander The Great's Mountain Fortress
On my deployment in Afghanistan we had the opportunity to visit a historical site, on the outskirts of Shindand in the Herat Province of Afghanistan. A great fortress lays in ruin on top of one of the mountains, with a view of the entire valley. In which Alexander The Great could see an army approaching from miles away. Alexander invaded Afghanistan in 330 BC, that is almost 2350 years later. My brothers and I stood at the peak in awe, scanning the horizon.

Leaving Shindand
After going thru the eating areas in Shindand, we head for home, passing by various checkpoints and passing by old Soviet remnants.
Old Shindand Mess Hall
We toured at an old mess hall built by the Soviets for a potential move to. Would take some work to upgrade.
