Monastir Tunisia | Top Tourist Attractions in Monastir Tunisia 4K (UHD)

Monastir, also called Mestir, is a beautiful city in the Sahel region on Tunisia's central-eastern coast. It is about 160 kilometres from the capital, Tunis, and 20 kilometres from the more popular coastal city of Sousse.
Monastir has about 93,000 inhabitants and is the birthplace of former Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba, which largely contributed to the city's touristic boom. Around a third of the population is occupied in the tourist sector, and the city's luxury hotels by the sea and golf courses attract many foreign tourists.
The city boasts several cultural and historical attractions, such as the Ribat of Monastir, the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, and the Monastir Museum.
There are kilometres of sandy beaches, wide modern avenues, and an international airport that receives and sends many flights daily.
It is considered one of Tunisia's best tourist destinations due to its rich history and beautiful beaches.
Monastir is also home to some of the world's most fascinating archaeological sites. Nearby are the ruins of Ruspina, a Phoenician and Roman town.
Monastir gained popularity in the 1970s when it was chosen as the filming location for the miniseries Jesus of NazaretPython'sh and the iconic movie Monty Python's Life of Brian. With its beautiful golden beaches, clear sapphire blue waters, historical landmarks, and a charming marina, Monastir offers its visitors many unforgettable experiences. It is a perfect holiday destination to sunbathe, relax by the sea, and explore a fascinating region, including Sousse, Kairouan, El Jem, and Mahdia. Moreover, Monastir is a delightful city in which to spend the day. To assist you in planning your sightseeing, we have compiled a list of Monastir's top tourist attractions.

What I wish I knew before visiting TUNISIA | Ultimate Travel Guide 2024 - food, transport, safety

✨ subscribe ✨ & join the patreon for more

I just got back from my one-week solo trip around Tunisia, which I planned and organised completely by myself.

It was a beautiful and surprising country and I absolutely loved my time there, but I also did learn a few things that I wish I knew before going, so I've compiled all of that wisdom in to the ultimate Tunisia travel guide for you, so that you can go and have the perfect vacation there from day one :)

I also feel really grateful to the people I met there and the kindness they showed me, so I want to do my part for helping to boost the tourism industry there. There's kind of a lack of good recent Tunisia information online, and I wanted to change that.

Tunisia is full of a wealth of historical and cultural sites, old markets and medinas, fortresses, roman ruins, and of course, sites in the southern part in the sahara, like tataouine, where star wars was filmed ;) And all of that adds up to a place that absolutely suits budget-friendly solo travel.

where I get good-value travel e-sims (absolute lifesaver):

I went to Tunis, Sidi Bou Said, Carthage, Sfax, Sousse and El Jem while in Tunisia. It was an amazing tour, and I connected the dots with buses, louages, trains and taxis.

If you're planning your own solo trip to Tunisia, be sure to watch this video and ask me any specific questions in the comments.

Why is Sfax THE BEST CITY to Visit in Tunisia? 🇹🇳

Sfax صفاقس‎ - The second city of Tunisia, after the capital Tunis.

It's not blessed with obvious tourist sites and locals told me not to go, but I did anyway. What I found quickly became my favourite Tunisian city. Incredibly friendly, real and vibrant.

Come with me, and I'll show you why Sfax is the best!

Visited Sfax in one day

Visited the city of Sfax is to discover Haussmann buildings that date back to French independence. The city is full of some magnificent Andalusian style building in the city center. Have also visited a little the medina, Dar jalouli, the big mosque. Not to mention to visit this magnificent synagogue located just 300 meters from the medina of Sfax. Counted a short day in Sfax and the next day visit Kerkennah island in front of Sfax.

Virtually exploring Sfax Tunisia!

Let's explore the world through Google Street View.

Today we are visiting Sfax Tunisia. What an interesting old city! I love seeing that walled in portion of the city and getting a peak at the old grand Mosque and streets of shopping. I wish I could have seen more. The rest of the city has plenty to offer as well. Everything is so bright and very attractive. Would love to visit! I am so sorry about the audio quality. My mic volume was cranked up from a video conference I had during this coronavirus shut down, and I failed to turn it down. Will fix next time! :)

Here you can check out where we have been on Google Maps.

Thanks to Google for Street View.

This is probably the most interesting place to visit in Sfax, Tunisia. The medina here is among the biggest in Tunisia and has a great variety of souvenirs, food, fish market, jewellery and all kinds of things you would expect to find in a market.

SFAX, TUNISIA

Sfax is a city in Tunisia, located 270 km (170 mi) southeast of Tunis. The city, founded in AD 849 on the ruins of Roman Taparura, is the capital of the Sfax Governorate (about 955,421 inhabitants in 2014),and a Mediterranean port. Exploring Sfax, Tunisia (Kasbah, Synagogue, Christian & Commonwealth War Cemeteries & Ibis Hotel)

Today we go on a walking tour of Sfax, the second largest city in Tunisia, located 270 km southeast of Tunis, on Tunisia's beautiful Mediterranean coastline.

We start the tour in Sfax's beautiful 9th century Aghlabid Medina, in front of the Great Mosque of Sfax. We then head to the sadly abandoned Beth El Synagogue, which was built in 1955. Next is the Sfax Museum of Traditional Architecture, which is located in the Kasbah of the Medina. At the end of the day, we explore some colonial-era French, Italian and even Russian graves in the Christian Cemetery, before visiting the 1,253 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War (52 of them unidentified) in Sfax Commonwealth War Cemetery. There is also a soldier from World War I buried here! We end the day with a quick tour of my hotel room in the excellent Sfax Ibis.
