12 Best Tourist Attractions in Oriental Mindoro Philippines

Oriental Mindoro is a province in the Philippines located in the island of Mindoro under Mimaropa region in Luzon, about 140 kilometres (87 mi) southwest of Manila. The province is bordered by the Verde Island Passage and the rest of Batangas to the north, by Marinduque, Maestre de Campo (or known as Sibale but official name is Concepcion) Island, Tablas Strait and the rest of Romblon to the east, by Semirara and the rest of Caluya Islands, Antique to the south, and by Occidental Mindoro to the west. Calapan, the only city in the island, is the provincial capital.

Caluya is a First Class Municipality in the Province of Antique. It is well known for its unspoiled beaches, seaweeds, clear water and coconut crab Tatus. Unfortunately, when we asked about the coconut crab 🦀 is not available at summertime time. Best time to find the coconut crab at 🌧 rainy season.

Oriental Mindoro - Bulalacao Island Hopping

Today we got to spend the day island hopping around bulalacao island in oriental mindoro.

We managed to find a local fisherman who was willing to take us island hopping around some of the best islands that oriental mindoro has to offer.

The best islands are quite far away and you have to brave the really big waves but it was completly worth it because these islands are pristine with beautiful snorkelling in the clear water, also the sand on the beaches was really fine and clean.

Straight away we new that the first island was going to be hard to beat and we spent most of our time here and also the visibility for snorkelling was so good.

Bulalacao is not known for its island hopping but you would be insane to miss it and i would expect bulalacao to become pretty popular over the next few years and will probably put oriental mindoro on the tourist map

Travelling through Mindoro by van from Puerto Galera to Calapan to San Jose, Philippines.

I'm heading to Palawan. After taking a trike to Puerto Galera I took a jeepney that took just over an hour to reach Calapan. I’d see some of Calapan, overnight there, then take a a couple of vans the following day to San Jose on the southern coast where I’d overnight again before catching a ferry the next day to Coron on Palawan.

I spent the afternoon in Calapan working in my hotel room. Finding a hotel with decent internet connection is a major priority when deciding where to stay now. Almost more important than comfort, otherwise I’m unable to upload my YouTube videos.

Destiny’s hotel is pretty kinky. I imagine it’s the sort of place rented out by the hour in other towns. The majority of rooms were windowless. The only room that did have a window had a dodgy a/c leaking over the bed, but I persuaded them to let me stay in it anyway and just use a standing fan. I’m not fond of noisy a/c’s anyway.

Calapan wasn’t worth stopping off at. There was nothing there. It’s strange how these towns or cities consist of just establishments built on the main highway.

In Calapan I checked the bus times of the Ceres Bus that goes directly to San Jose. The bus travelled along the road where I was staying and was meant to pass by around 9am and then another at midday. What I should’ve done was go directly to the port at Calapan 2km away where the Ceres Bus leaves from at a designated time. Bit of a schoolboy error.

So I caught the 9am van to Bulalacao instead which was packed and sat right at the back. Just short of Bulalacao a group of schoolkids boarded having attended a mental health seminar. We spent half-hour chatting which helped pass time on my lengthy van journey. It's great how you can easily engage with friendly filipinos in the Philippines.

On arriving in Bulalacao I had 10 minutes to grab a quick bite to eat then jumped on the 2pm van to San Jose, which took just over an hour.

In San Jose I met a Belgian guy with his French girlfriend who left Calapan three hours after me, paid the same price, but had a more comfortable journey and arrived in San Jose not long after me. I stayed at the Red Doors hotel in San Jose where check-in took so long having booked online. It was as if their online booking system booking wasn’t in tune with the front desk. The girls who manned it were quite cute thou and one of them called me a sexy man for my age. Ha!

EQUIPMENT USED:
Canon Sureshot G7X Mark II.

BULALACAO BEACHES, Oriental Mindoro | Tara, Byahe Tayo

Virtually explore the less traveled south of Mindoro: Bulalacao

The Paradise of Bulalacao Islands

You will compare the beauty of Bulalacao Islands to the Palawan tourist spots. In order to reach all of the islands, you will be needing a whole day boat ride. All of the islands has a unique beauty but the Aslom Island, Target Island and Buyayao Island captured my heart. Due to limited of time, we just drive by to Tambaron Island and Suguicay Island but the place was also great. Thanks also to the local who assisted us to our boat ride and for the overnight camping and stay in the Buyayao Island, it is a recommendable and must visit place in Bulalacao Islands.

Bulalacao, Mindoro, Philippines 2015 - FULL HD

This week we leave beautiful Palawan and go on to the unexplored south of Mindoro: Bulalacao. Even though Bulalacao is not the most visited destination in the Philippines, it's definately worth a visit. The people in and around the village are open and friendly, and all the paradisely islands… well, you'll have them all just for yourself! So don't miss out on Bulalacao on your way to Puerto Galera ;)

General information:

The hotel we stayed is South Drive.

If you want to stay really in the village, this is the only guesthouse at the moment. There are also two resorts on the main land:
Felipa Lodge and a resort that the owners of the South Drive are building.
On one of the islands is the Tambaron Green Beach resort.

Our tour was arranged by South Drive. The boy and the girl guiding us were really cool! And they were so obviously enjoying showing us around, I can only advise you to go with them and have fun :)

The island tours (you don't see it obviously in the movie, but we did two separate boatrides) were arranged by South Drive. But you can also walk to the shore and ask the boatmen to take you.

CAMERA equipment I use

**Canon Powershot N100 – (affiliate)
A budget option I loved very much for my first year of travel vlogging.

** Sony RX100 mk4 – (affiliate)
Oh my, how I love this new camera! Use this one from the Batanes series (Philippines II) onwards.

** GoPro HERO4 Silver – (affiliate)
I mainly use this camera for under water shots. Love the little screen at the back so your shots will not be a surprise till you're at your computer

** Joby Gorilla Pod – (affiliate)
Small and compact, will stable shots. Love this mini tripod. Especially when traveling alone it's a great help.
