Liberec - Czech Republic

Liberec Region is located in the northern part of Bohemia and borders Germany and Poland. The region is named after its capital city Liberec, fifth largest city in the Czech Republic, a very busy place, surrounded by the Jizera hills and mountains. The Liberec Region has four main districts: Semily, Jablonec nad Nisou, Ceska Lipa, and of course Liberec. Business in the Liberec Region consists primarily of machinery industries, glass and plastic, but the region is still renowned for its textile industry too. Historically the city of Liberec has been known for its textile industry since the 14th century, and once named the Manchester of the Czech Republic.

Driver’s Eye View (Czech Republic) - Steam in the Giant Mountains Part 2 - Semily to Stará Paka

This tour was marketed by the Railway touring Company as “Snow and Steam in Austria and Bohemia” Bohemia referring to the region of the Czech Republic featured. Part 1 took us from Turnova to Semily, following the course carved by the Jizera (river) through the Giant Mountains. Sunshine and occasional snow flurries, that quickly melted punctuated this leg of our trip.
Part 2 started out from Semily in glorious sunshine, steaming through attractive undulating countryside, past idyllic villages towards ever darkening skies. Light snow flurries turned to heavy snow, by the time we reached Stará Paka the footplate crew were dealing with blizzard conditions, the tour was finally living up to its name, having started a few days earlier in an unseasonably warm Prague. Watch our little tank engine run round its train in driving snow ready to continue its journey on to Vrchlabí.

Státní Hrad Trosky 🇨🇿 2023 / 4K /
#travel #2023 #4k #czech

Významnou roli sehrál během husitských válek, kdy patřil pánům z Bergova a spolu s dalšími hrady v okolí tvořil významnou oporu katolické strany. Hrad v té době odolal dvěma obléháním a dobyt byl až v roce 1469 vojskem krále Jiřího z Poděbrad. Patřily k panství hradu Kost a později ke Hrubé Skále.

Valdštejn / Waldstein 4K - Exploration of the 750-year-old Castle

Waldstein (German: Waldstein n. Wallenstein) is a castle ruin in the Semily district near Turnov, in the Bohemian Paradise. The family castle of the Lords of Wallenstein dates back to the second half of the 13th century. It is one of the oldest castles in the area

The castle was built by one of the branches of the Markvartice family between 1260 and 1280 It was probably Jaroslav of Hruštice or his son Zdeněk and Valdštejn became their ancestral seat, after which they and their descendants used the predicate Lords of Valdštejn. They are referred to as the Waldsteins.

Jaroslav of Hruštice (Hruštice was a fortress near Turnov) initially used the name Jaroslav of Lemberk because he was a member of the Lemberk family, the third son of Havel of Lemberk. Havel of Lemberk came from the Markvartice family, which had acquired extensive territories in northern Bohemia in return for helping the Přemyslids. Jaroslav's mother was Zdislava of Lemberk, canonized in 1995

The owners of the local estate, the Wallensteins (owners from 1620-1821) and after them the Aehrenthals (1821-1945), built a romantic pilgrimage site from the ruins. In 1713 stone steps were built, in 1722 the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was built in the first courtyard and soon afterwards a number of statues, and in 1817 the chapel of St. John the Baptist was built. In 1836, an entrance gate was built behind a stone bridge with a number of statues

Steam on the picturesque Prague Semmering Railway - Part 1 - Prague to Nučice (Czech Republic)

My first train set consisted of an oval of track, 3 wagons, a 12 volt controller and a 0-4-0 steam locomotive that didn’t look like anything I’d seen in real life, that was about to change as today’s motive power was clearly based on the engine included in that first train set. 0-4-0 No. 213.902 (built by ČKD in 1947) pulled into (Prague) Praha-Smíchov station with a train consisting of 2 x 4 wheeled passenger carriages, a baggage van and an open wagon to take our group on a tour of local lines through the hills and valleys around Prague. Today’s trip passed through countryside reminiscent of Devon and Cornwall in the UK, an insight into how those now legendary West Country railways might have looked today if the fateful Beeching report had not been implemented.
Our engine may have been small, but it had a big heart, making a glorious sound that reverberated off the surrounding hills as it battled the gradients to escape from the valley floor to climb the Prague Semmering railway. Please join me for a fascinating journey filmed from a passenger, line-side and driver’s perspective.

Time Lapse video of driving from Prague to Kutna Hora | Czech Republic Highway driving

This is the first time we venture outside of Prague. This drive starts from Prague and were headed to Kutna hora. The plan for the day was to visit Saint Barbara's Church and the Sedlec which is the church made of bones. We take the Mestsky okruh (city circuit). I can't tell whether this is considered highway or not but this takes us through tunnel complex Blanka. We then enter the highway 8 followed by highway E55. I've said it before that driving in Prague was extremely safe and even more so on the highway. The entire drive from Prague to Kutna Hora will take you roughly about an hour and half.

I slowed my time-lapse drive so that you can get a better view of how the actual drive is like. You don't have to worry about running out of gas or anything as there are plenty of service stations on your way.
