Ghost Town of Sedro Woolley, Abandoned Insane Asylum
Shop VFC's Travels Merch Store!
The Ghost Town of Sedro Woolley, Washington. Located at the foothills of the Cascade Mountain range in the beautiful Washington State, the ghost town of Sedro Woolley is actually and old abandoned insane asylum, or mental institution, however you want to call it. It is a unique setting with a unique history.
At the turn of the twentieth century, Washington had two other such asylums that were beginning to overflow. So a third was built, this one in Sedro Woolley. At its peak around the 1950s over 2000 patients called the place home. In the video, we will discuss a bit more of the history of the asylum and the treatment of the inmates while touring the grounds of what is a beautiful setting.
These days it looks like quite the hang out for high school kids, with graffiti adorning the buildings and some leftover party materials in some of the old facilities.
Enjoy the trip back in time and a little bit of history of the Ghost Town of Sedro Woolley, Washington.

This video is a top 5 list of the best small towns in Washington State. Updated for 2020.
Time to start planning a road trip around Washington.
The State of Washington, is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the Western United States. Named for George Washington—the first U.S. president—the state was made out of the western part of the Washington Territory, which was ceded by the British Empire in 1846, in accordance with the Oregon Treaty in the settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute. The state—which is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, Oregon to the south, Idaho to the east, and the Canadian province of British Columbia to the north—was admitted to the Union as the 42nd state in 1889. Olympia is the state capital; the state's largest city is Seattle. Washington is often referred to as Washington State to distinguish it from the nation's capital, Washington, D.C.

Anacortes WA To Seadro-Woolley Wa ( 4K DRIVE) 2021
Skagit County Historical Museum - La Conner, WA - #museuminaminute #thingstodo
We are back in the United States for about 2 months, and started our US visit in Bellingham, WA. We spent a few days kicking around Bellingham, catching up with family in the area, then headed south.
Our next 'official' stop is Portland, OR but there's a lot to see along the way. Back in the 1970's we lived in Burlington/Sedro-Woolley/Mt Vernon and used to ride our bikes out to La Conner from time to time. From Burlington it's only about 10 miles so I did it a few times on a Saturday because I didn't have a better plan
I was curious to see what's changed in 40+ years and it's a lot. I recall the museum being not very well lit and a lot of glass display cases full of tribal relics being the big feature. It is definitely better now. More regional history, better lighting, better organized.... just, BETTER.
I'll get a proper video up at some point but int he meantime, here is Skagit County Historical #museuminaminute

Exploring Snohomish, Washington
This part of town was mainly antique stores and restaurants, not what I expected. I thought it would have more stores selling new merchandise, boutiques, and art galleries kind of like Port Townsend or even Poulsbo, Washington.
Quick trip to Marblemount Washington.
I ran out to Marblemount to drop off some delineator posts for a DoT paving project. 460 Cone and Base @ 12lb Ea. It was a nice drive, there was so much more to see that I could record and the smell of the pine was amazing today.

SteamTrain Locomotive Sedro Woolley Washington - Skagit Valley Washington
Trainspotting Steam Train Locomotives in Sedro-Wooley Washington about 71 miles north of Seattle Wa. This Steam engine was built by the Baldwin Locomotive works in Pennsylvania in 1913. It led a long and useful life hauling countless trees from up valley to the saw mill near Mount Vernon Washington.
This steam engine was gifted to the Sedro-Woolley Jr. Chamber of Commerce by the Scott Paper Company----Yes that one.
This engine known as Two-Spot was last fired up and run in 1957 and will likely never run again. As you will notice in the video there is a surprising amount of wood timbers used in the construction of the Engine and Caboose. The rest of the train is still in somewhat good condition considering it has been left out in the elements for the past 60+ years.
This video is an original work created from photos and video I took in Sedro-Wooley Washington. The titles, graphics and special effects were created using video editing software on my computer. All Rights Reserved.
