Sarikei & Sungai Rajang | Sarawak (Short Version)
This drone footage was from my recent short trip to Sarikei, Sarawak. I was in Sarikei for the first time. It lies on the bank of Rajang River the longest river in Malaysia. I was looking for signs that write 'Sarikei' for some pics but only found some gov offices' signs. Other some distinctive features are a pineapple statue and the tallest building Wisma Jubli Mutiara. It was too windy thus only allowed me a short flight. At the end, I bought some rambutans at the waterfront and enjoyed the scenery of Rajang River at dusk. The mighty Rajang River was the highlight. The music in this clip is performed by @atadauborneo, Forest Breeze from their 2016 Journey album. OMG their last night's performance was lit..

Overnight in Pala Munsoh Waterfall, Ulu Sarikei, Sarawak, Malaysia
Me and Adi camping overnight in Pala Munsoh Waterfall. It took 2 to 2.5 hours to get to the waterfall from Rumah Nyuka, Sarikei. How to get here? You can google map Rumah Nyuka or Pala Munsuh Waterfall. The Pala Munsoh Waterfall at Lubuk Lemba in Upper Sarikei is a potential tourist draw in the Central Region. It has 3 vertical drops.
BANDAR SARIKEI, SARAWAK 2022.
Sejarah awal Sarikei (merujuk kepada Bandar Sarikei kini) dapat dikesan seawal kurun ke-19. Catatan sejarah menunjukkan James Brooke pernah mengunjungi Sarikei pada 30 April 1845.
Penentangan terhadap James Brooke membawa kepada peristiwa pembakaran Sarikei pada 4 Januari 1856 dan tindakan balas oleh Charles Brooke ke atas Julau pada 19 Jun 1856. Catatan-catatan sejarah ini menunjukkan kewujudan awal Sarikei.
Bahagian Sarikei ditubuhkan pada 2 April 1973 sebagai bahagian ke-6 dalam negeri Sarawak melalui Sarawak Gazette Swk. L.N 26 bertarikh 15 Mac 1973. Bahagian Sarikei pada awal penubuhannnya mempunyai keluasan 6969 km². Ianya merupakan gabungan daerah-daerah Sarikei, Meradong, Julau , Matu dan Daro. Selepas pembentukan Bahagian Mukah dan Bahagian Betong,
Bahagian Sarikei mengalami kesan secara langsung terutama dari segi luas kawasan. Keseluruhan jumlah kawasan terkini di bawah Bahagian Sarikei adalah 4332.35 km² yang merupakan 1.31 % daripada jumlah keseluruhan negeri Sarawak iaitu 124,449 km². Bahagian Sarikei merupakan bahagian yang kedua terkecil selepas bahagian Betong (4,180 km² atau 1.27% daripada keluasan negeri Sarawak). Pusat pentadbiran dan komersil adalah Bandar Sarikei yang juga dikenali dengan nama Bandar Nanas.
Penubuhan Bahagian Sarikei adalah didorong oleh faktor-faktor keselamatan. Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot , Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Sarawak menyatakan di dalam artikelnya; Sarawak's Unique Administrative Identity : Establishment of Divisoinal, District & Sub-District Machinery for Enhancing Development Administration bahawa penubuhan Bahagian Sarikei (dahulunya dikenali sebagai Bahagian ke-6) ini adalah atas sebab-sebab keselamatan berikutan pemberontakan komunis pada masa itu. Dengan penubuhan Bahagian Sarikei, aspek kawalan keselamatan dapat difokuskan dan memudahkan urusan pemantauan ke kawasan terbabit.

Harvest Petai Stink Bean at Julau Farm, Sarikei Sarawak Malaysia Borneo Travel 臭豆农场泗里街砂拉越马来西亚 婆罗洲游踪
Location : Julau, Sarikei Division, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Our first ever visit to Julau was not exactly what we had planned or expected. We thought that we could visit some longhouses and perhaps Fort Brooke at Nanga Meluan.
Driving out of Kanowit ( on the 3rd day of CNY we arrived at this sleepy town and decided to drive round it hoping to see a hotel but realized there wasn’t any. Decided to park the car and walk one last round, had a cold drink and asked the locals a few question.
As we were about to walk back to the car we noticed a newly completed suspension bridge that did not look like one! No usual hanging cables along the whole bridge! Strange. We decided to cross it and maybe check out the opposite bank a bit.
What was supposed to be a 10 minutes affair turned into 5 good hours. All because we innocently, as always, ‘trespassed’ into the property of Kapitan Liang Yung Sing. Before we knew it one of his daughters in law invited us, total strangers from Kuching, into the house as Chinese New Year celebration was ongoing. Attracted by their country folk’s humility and friendliness we accepted and was glad we did as we were treated to all kinds of fruits, unlike any other house visits. There was rambutan, durian, duku langsat, mangosteen and dabai (local olive) all fresh from their farm.
As we were enjoying the fruits and hospitality we enquired about the unique bridge that crossed Sungei Marok. Liang Hung Chang who is one of the Kapitan’s 3 sons explained it was just been completed end of December 2011. The long overdued bridge was part financed by the government with the amount of RM190,000. The other part of the contribution which was RM160,000 came from 7 families of Sungai Marok and about 30 families of Kampung Selaut. With a meager RM350,000 budget the Liang family performed miracle. They designed and built the bridge, an engineering marvel if you care to take a closer look at the details. Doubtless this bridge has opened the door to new hopes, possibilities and dreams. First and foremost the Liangs have opened up dirt roads all around their huge fruit farm to make work easier and faster.
When Hung Chang invited us to visit his farm and especially the 3 hectares of ‘petai’ trees we immediately accepted. We trekked through the hilly farm for about 30 minutes before we arrived at the petai spot.
Petai Scientific name : Parkia Speciosa
Other name : peteh, bitter bean, twisted cluster bean, stink bean, sator and sataw.
We were very fortunate to have bumped into the Liang’s family during our visit to Julau this CNY. They are the very first in Sarawak to have Petai Farm in which they got the seedlings from West Malaysia.
Maybe due to better soil condition, somehow their petai tastes better than West Malaysia and has Wasabi taste! The wasabi taste persists even after frying! The best petai is with the dark green colour skin. When you peel off the skin, there is an orange coloured pulp covering the seed that tasted sweeter than candy. Wow.. a great mixture of sweet + spicy + bitter!!! Something you shouldn’t miss out when u visit Julau!
Petai seeds usually can be consumed directly, boiled, or baked, and petai seed is also widely consumed by mixed with other foods such as chilli, garlic, anchovies, belacan (shrimp paste), fish, duck, vegetables, and so forth.
The durians we picked up along the way were awesome too.
As we hurried back to the house Joshua Liang picked up a number of pieces of crystal quartz from the freshly leveled dirt road. Our unforgettable souvenirs.
The visit to the Liangs ended after savouring the freshly cooked petai. Expressed our sincere gratitude and bade our farewell. The sky was getting dark and fast. Time to do the 1 hour drive to the next town Sarikei ( the kind of ‘unbeaten path’ experience any tourist would die for!
