Después de ser recibidos con una refrescante bebida e instalarnos en nuestra habitación, tuvimos la oportunidad de recorrer las calles céntricas de la ciudad y conocer lugares realmente impactantes.
La primera parada fue una visita en Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, un monumental conjunto arquitectónico de la Orden Dominica, sin duda una de las más bellas muestras del barroco en México.
La iluminación nocturna hacía lucir el templo más señorial aún.

Continuamos a pie sobre el Andador Turístico, desde Santo Domingo de Guzmán y hasta el centro de la Ciudad, en él se localizan diversos museos, galerías, tiendas de artesanías y restaurantes.
Para cerrar la noche llegamos al centro donde pudimos disfrutar de una banda de música que nos acompañó en el recorrido hasta el kiosko del zócalo.

Los portales del centro, en el Jardín de la Constitución, lucían sus mejores galas y al apagarse el sonido de la banda, fuimos sorprendidos con el alegre sonido de la marimba, que ameniza a los paseantes diariamente.

Concluímos nuestro primer contacto con la ciudad de Oaxaca cenando en un agradable lugar donde vino la segunda gran sorpresa.
¡Los sabores de Oaxaca son increíbles! Mole negro, tlayudas, tamales, caldo de piedra, quesillos y garnachas acompañados del tradicional mezcal y tejate.
Definitivamente tendré que escribir un artículo tan solo para abordar la vasta y deliciosa comida de la región.

Zona Arqueológica de Huamelulpan, Mixteca Alta, Oaxaca, México
Huamelulpan es el nombre de una zona arqueológica mixteca localizada en el noroeste del estado mexicano de Oaxaca. Por sus dimensiones, debió ser una de las mayores urbes mesoamericanas de su tiempo. También fue una de las que presenta una más larga ocupación, desde el Preclásico hasta el Posclásico. El período de apogeo de esta ciudad corresponde a 400 a.C. a 200 d.C., época de conformación de las sociedades urbanas en Mesoamérica.

Huamelulpan is the name of a Mixtec archaeological site located in the northwest of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Due to its dimensions, it must have been one of the largest Mesoamerican cities of its time. Also, it was one of those with the longest occupation, from the Preclassic to the Postclassic. The period of heyday of this city is from 400 B.C. to 200 A.D.,
corresponding to the time of formation of the urban societies in Mesoamerica.
