SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads):

*I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.*

🇲🇽 SANTA MARIA la RIBERA, CDMX | Mexico City's Next BIG THING? | 4K CITY WALKAROUND | Mexico Travel

🇲🇽 SANTA MARIA LA RIBERA, MEXICO CITY - Welcome to Part 30 of my 2022 Mexico Travel series! We’re coming to the end and we’re back in Ciudad de México (CDMX) for a few days, this time exploring the area of Santa Maria la Ribera in a 4K city walkaround style. Santa Maria is a lesser-known area to the west of Centro Historico. It’s a really cool area with amazing architecture and history, museums, fountains, greenery, restaurants and cafes, and most of all, locals dancing near the ginormous kiosco on a Sunday! A real sense of community! Is this Mexico City's next big thing? We also visit the nearby Biblioteca Vasconcelos - the site of my first ever Mexico video - four years ago!

It’s very common for immigrants from the US who are moving to Mexico, or Digital Nomads, to stay in areas like Roma due to the population of English speakers, supposed safety and so on. But the fact is, that area has become more of an exclave or colony for those looking for a more affordable way of life. In my view, there are many who are simply there for that and make no effort to integrate, learn and speak Spanish, or change their way of life to ‘be more Mexican’.

Let’s forget about Expats. This video is about highlighting different areas of the city to stay in if you are visiting Mexico City for a short time. Narvarte, Escandón, Portales, Doctores, Santa Maria la Ribera, Guerrero, and Iztapalapa are all areas I have stayed in for extended periods. I eat where the locals eat and do not speak English on a daily basis. It’s not that difficult. The issues of ‘gentrification’ or ‘colonialism’ are larger topics!

If you’re thinking of becoming expats in Mexico or moving to Mexico, you don’t have to move to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Condesa or listen to the outdated ‘is Mexico safe’ rhetoric. Think outside the box and don’t be a sheep. What is Northern Mexico JAJA

There are so many different options for living in Mexico City and while I LOVE Roma and Condesa as much as the next expat, there are other options that may suit you better for long-term rentals, especially if you want to live more locally, support small businesses and keep the costs down while living here.

Inside Mexico’s Craziest Market - WE WERE SHOCKED! (our first time in Mexico City) | CDMX, Mexico

We’ve made it to Mexico City! In this video, we are experiencing the market culture in Mexico City (CDMX). We started at, La Merced Market, which is one of the largest and most vibrant markets in Mexico City (CDMX). La Merced can be a bit overwhelming at first, with its labyrinthine streets and endless rows of stalls and vendors. But it's all part of the experience, and we quickly got swept up in the excitement and energy of the place. The market is a true feast for the senses, with the smells, sounds, and colors of Mexico all around you.

We then visited Mercado Sonora, which is a vibrant and bustling market located right next to La Merced. You can find a wide variety of products, from traditional Mexican crafts and souvenirs to exotic herbs, spices, and potions used in traditional folk medicine.

After visiting Mercado Sonora, we continued our exploration of Mexico City by checking out some local establishments. We stopped at a pulqueria, which is a traditional Mexican bar that specializes in pulque, a fermented beverage made from the sap of the agave plant. Next, we visited a cantina, which is another type of traditional Mexican bar. Finally, we took a leisurely stroll around the old town of Mexico City, soaking up the rich history and vibrant culture of the area.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time 😉

To start we ate some Sopes, Tlayudas and Mezcal. Next we visited the Cantina Salon Paris to try some Tequila, Pork Rinds and hear some music.

As we walked out of the Cantina we ran into a guy selling Patitas, basically Chicken Feet! It's so delicious! Everyone should try it once!!

A few blocks away we visited a typical Pulqueria. This is a drink of the gods and was the most popular drink in Mexico until beer was introduced.

To finish off the night we headed to El Califa to eat some delicious tacos! I had ribs and Mariel had beef. Both were so good! Mexican street food is amazing in the Santa Maria la Ribera neighborhood!

Have you been to Santa Maria la Ribera or eaten Mexican street food before?
