Binondo is a district in Manila and is referred to as the city's Chinatown. Its influence extends beyond to the places of Quiapo, Santa Cruz, San Nicolas and Tondo. It is the oldest Chinatown in the world, established in 1594. by the Spaniards as a settlement near Intramuros but across the Pasig River for Catholic Chinese, it was positioned so that colonial rulers could keep a close eye on their migrant subjects. It was already a hub of Chinese commerce even before the Spanish colonial period. Binondo is the center of commerce and trade of Manila, where all types of business run by Filipino-Chinese thrive.

Hello and welcome to another video episode of our road trip. Today we are travelling back to Carmona, Cavite from Libmanan, Camarines Sur. Our road trip video will end at Vlars Gasoline Station at Tabugon Junction in Santa Elena, Camarines Norte. Actual travel time is 2 hours and 15 minutes via the Rolando Andaya / Quirino Highway NH68.
We left Libmanan at 6:30 AM and arrive in Tabugon Junction for restroom break at 8:45 AM passing the towns of Sipocot, Lupi, Ragay and Del Gallego in Camarines Sur Province and the towns of Tagkawayan, Guinayangan ang Calauag in Quezon Province. Traffic is light as it is Sunday today (January 29, 2023). We encounter on and off rain showers along the way with sunny breaks.
This marks the end of our Bicol Road Trip Series 2023 but don't be despair, there's more Philippine Road Trips coming up soon so watch out folks.

Santa Elena Fun Farm Day - Yellow Yum
My friends invited us to go to Santa Elena Fun Farm in Laguna. I have seen photos and it did look like something that my kids will enjoy. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! There were a lot of first s for my children, just like horseback riding and ziplining! Yup, even the two year old twins got to go on the zipline! Robyn also got to climb up a tree house!
Here are some points to remember before visiting:
1. Prior reservation is needed . you can visit their facebook page or website to check on the slots available .
2. The entrance fee is p400 per person, for both children and adults . it is p320 for pwd and senior citizen.
3. Animal food for feeding is available at the entrance. you may purchase the food and feed the animals inside the farm.
4. Bring your own food or have food delivered to the farm. There are picnic areas available with tables and chairs. We actually ordered and had food delivered by Kenny Rogers.
5. Wear sunblock, bring extra clothes and face towels because it can get hot and humid.
6. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking a lot and there are a lot of activities for both kids and adults.
7. Their operating schedule is from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.

Santa Elena to Daet motorcycle ride scooter ride in Camarines Norte 4K
This video is from my Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Bicol maxi-scooter long ride last month and this is my day 1 of that ride. This is after the main checkpoint at VLARS Gas Station Calauag Camarines Norte. It's a 2 hours ride from Calauag checkpoint to Bagasbas Daet which is my main stop for day 1.

Binondo, also known as Manila's Chinatown, sits at the center of the capital city and is one of the oldest districts in the country of the Philippines. It is considered the oldest Chinatown in the world when it was first established in 1594, and extendes its influence to its surrounding districts of Quiapo, Santa Cruz, San Nicolas, and Tondo.
Founded in 1594 by its creator Spanish Governor Luis Perez Dasmarinas, Binondo was a permanent settlement for Chinese immigrants who converted to Catholicism. Binondo sits adjacent to the walled Spanish settlement Intramuros where the Spanish resided. Binondo became the place where Chinese immigrants intermarried indigenioius Filipino women who then became the Chinese mestizo community. In 1603, a Chinese revolution took place in Binondo where 20,000 Chinese were killed by the Spanish settlers who accused China of a planned invasion of the Philippines for its gold and valuable resources. At the time, the Chinese outnumbered the Spanish by twenty to one, and the Chinese afterward downplayed those events to preserve its commercial interest.
Before WWII, Binondo was the banking and financial center for the Philippines which included financial institutions from the United States and European countries. After the war, most businesses and banks moved to the newer developed area called Makati. Because of its history, Binondo has one of the highest land values in the country. Today, Binondo has become a tourist attraction for its history, restaurants, dry markets, and shopping malls. It has become a destination where individual merchants come to find great deals buying and selling, or reselling various goods such as jewelry, clothing, and household goods.
