Sangkhlaburi | Jungle Adventures on the Burmese Border

Sangkhlaburi's forests are wilder and less visited than most trekking destinations in northern Thailand. A true jungle adventure where we end up bamboo rafting through a dense forest.

Traveling to Sangkhlaburi is a great way to get really off the beaten track in Thailand. For many visitors, Sangkhlaburi is just too far out of the way. That is great news if you are looking for a true adventure destination.

The most difficult part about traveling to Sangkhlaburi is simply getting there. The town is at a dead end of a 200 km road north-west of Kanchanaburi. It is the one road in and out, no loops to be made from here. Once you make it to Sangkhlaburi though, there are few great destinations to visit.

Sangkhlaburi | Serene Border Town in the mountains of Thailand

Sangkhlaburi is in the remote part of Kanchanaburi Province.

The main town, originally inhabited by Karen, has seen an influx of re-settlers: Mon, Burmese, Thai, Lao, and a growing number of Japanese and Westerners.

The remoteness of the region adds to the it's serenity and laid-back atmosphere. As a bonus, the town itself has the longest wooden bridge in Thailand. The signature attraction of Sangkhlaburi.

24 HOURS in Sangkhlaburi - a Slice of Cultural Heaven

After living in Thailand since the late 90s, I have more than a few favourite places but this place is my current favourite town. A Western outpost on the Thai-Myanmar border, Sangkhlaburi is a slice of cultural and small town heaven, as is the Mon village on the other side of the Mon bridge - Ban Wangka. Next time I come, I will stay a few days.
This is just a slice of Sangkhlaburi (I could easily make a few videos here) and there is lots more to see). The video begins very early in the misty morning with the morning alms ceremony, where the monks walk from the temple to receive alms from people, mostly Thai, dressed in old style, bright and beautiful clothing. After that wonderful experience, breafast and a good look at the Mon Bridge, the longest wooden bridge in Thailand, I relaxed and swam (open water) back at the guesthouse, P. Guesthouse - a fantastic spot - then I wandered along to the Wangka Cafe for a happy ending to the morning. In the afternoon, I take you to Wangka viewpoint and to an awe inspiring Chedi/temple.

Sangkhlaburi | One of Thailand's top 'Unseen' Hidden Regions

When travelers picture a holiday in Thailand they might think of jungles, shiny golden temples and idyllic rural life.

Sangkhlaburi has it all!

Sangkhlaburi is a beautiful town in western Thailand, easy to combine with Kanchanaburi and a good non-tourist alternative to Chiang Mai.

It has a blend of ethnic minorities, the remoteness only adds to the serenity and laid back atmosphere!

Close to the border with Myanmar, Sangkhlaburi straddles two sides of a river linked by an awesomely impressive wooden bridge.

Sangkhlaburi | A cozy Homestay in the forests of Pilok

The Thailand-Myanmar border town of Pilok is an isolated region located in the west of Kanchanaburi. It was one of Thailand's most successful mining areas until several decades ago.

Leaving the mining era behind, the region has become a tourist destination well known for its tranquility, beautiful scenery and nature.

Among its attractions is Somsak Mine Homestay and its wonderful long-term expat owner Auntie Glen!

SANGKHLABURI Is Incredible 🇹🇭

Welcome to Sangkhlaburi, Thailand 🇹🇭

Sangkhlaburi is located in Kanchanaburi province in the remote West of Thailand pretty much on the border with Myanmar.

We started the day off at sunrise on the wooden Mon Bridge in Sangkhlaburi which is the 2nd longest wooden bridge in the world! We were up this early to see the Buddhist alms giving so we headed over to the Mon Village side.

Thai tourism is very popular here so it was super nice to see this tradition in such a nice peaceful location.

After this we headed to the Mon Market - the Mon people are an ethnic minority hailing from Myanmar. We grabbed some snacks from some lovely Indian lady's here.

Then we had a huge breakfast set from a Mon restaurant which was 140THB for 2 people with coffee and it was delicious!

The owners were so friendly and even taught us a few words in the Mon language! I recommend visiting this little spot the congee and roti with burmese curry was so tasty.

Headed down to the reservoir front and I just couldn't believe how stunning this place is.

Spent the rest of the day wandering round the Mon Village and staring at the incredible beauty of sangkhlaburi from the Mon Bridge.

The thunderstorms every night stopped us from visiting the street food night market but one night the weather was nice so we headed down to meet some kind local Thai vendors and try some delicious new foods and snacks!

We had lots of special new foods aswell as a delicious set of main dishes - pad krapow moo krob & moo pad prik gaeng

Hope you enjoyed the video Sangkhlaburi is truly a hidden gem here in Thailand we love it here ❤️🇹🇭

Sangkhlaburi Mon Bridge & Underwater Temple in 4K

Review of the Banthorphan Resort Sangkhla Buri Kanchanaburi Thailand

Review of the Banthorphan Resort Sangkhla Buri Kanchanaburi Thailand - I thought it was a abandoned hotel, but a very creative hotel.

I don't think I can call it a resort, but it was creative and comfortable apart for some minor issues. I love the way nature is all mixed in with the hotel design.

A few minutes drive from the Mon Bridge

Banthorphan Resort
Address: 25/3, Moo.2, Nong Lu, Sangkhla Buri, Kanchanaburi, Kanchanaburi, Thailand
Cost for a double room per night: 840 Baht a night

The Rural Thailand You Don't See | No Tourists In Sangkhlaburi 🇹🇭

Join us on a motorbike adventure through Sangkhlaburi in rural far western Thailand where foreign tourists just do not go 🇹🇭

We start the day off with a little room tour at our hotel. We stayed at 'sripech home' the owners were absolutely lovely and offer free motorbikes to use I highly recommend this place!

We headed off into the rural thai countrysides of sangkhlaburi here in Western Thailand pretty much at the border with Myanmar.

First we crossed a beautiful bridge and found a Viewpoint to take in the sights of the wooden Mon Bridge - the 2nd longest wooden bridge in the whole world!

We checked out a burmese styled temple complex which was incredibly beautiful, met some friendly Thai teachers before heading to an Indian styled pagoda all in the settings of lush Kanchanaburi jungle.

After this we drove to the highest point in Sangkhlaburi to the huge golden Buddha that is under construction right now but still offers amazing 360 degree views over the jungle landscapes.

We then cruised around the local village streets in the Mon ethnic minority side of town before finding the tastiest noodle shop in all Sangkhlaburi! 30 Baht for a huge bowl of delicious noodles made by friendly locals what more can you ask for.

We then grabbed a little roadside iced dessert to snack on in the mid day sun, for only 10 Baht this was the perfect choice.

We drove around the countryside laughing at how relaxed it is here, 0 police 0 problems just pure happiness.

To end the day off on this motorbike adventure we came across a legendary local Thai spot by the river, this place was incredible with pods right on the river to eat, drink and have fun, you can even tube down the river! We had some beers and went for a swim in the crazy currents! It had been raining pretty bad the days before so this river right now was the most dangerous in Thailand hahah.

Ended the video on the Mon Bridge in Sangkhlaburi Town again to show off the beauty of this place as the sun sets.

Sangkhlaburi in kanchanaburi province is probably my favourite place in Thailand there's something really special about this place and I already want to go back 🇹🇭❤️

Please 'Like' the video if you enjoyed watching. It really does help push my videos out there to more people in the big YouTube world.
