San Pedro is a neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles, California, United States. Formerly a separate city, it consolidated with Los Angeles in 1909. The Port of Los Angeles, a major international seaport, is partially located within San Pedro. The district has grown from being dominated by the fishing industry, to a working-class community within the city of Los Angeles, to a rapidly gentrifying community.
The peninsula, including all of San Pedro, was the homeland of the Tongva for thousands of years, home to the village of Chowigna along and the nearby Suangna. In other areas of the Los Angeles Basin archeological sites date back to at least about 10,000 years old. The Tongva used seafaring plank canoes or te'aats, found all throughout the coastline, to travel to and from the Channel Islands and along the coastline. The boats are still constructed by the Tongva today and retain a cultural significance.
First contact with Europeans occurred in 1542 with Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, the Spanish explorer who noted the extensive presence of the plank boats of the neighboring Chumash.
San Pedro is a unique blend of small-town charm, with world-class cultural attractions. Home to the famous Korean Bell, Fort MacArthur, Point Fermin Lighthouse and more, there's many places to explore!
San Pedro also offers spectacular whale watching opportunities during annual migration seasons (December through April.) LA Waterfront Cruises is LA's premiere whale watching company, offers daily cruises to search for these fantastic creatures. Their courteous, experienced crew and knowledgeable Aquarium of the Pacific marine mammal educators will take you on an exciting adventure to search for awe-inspiring marine life.
you are a fan of tide pools and marine life, make sure to add these spots to your list to check out while visiting us. Stop by the Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC) to see rescued seals and sea lions. MMCC Los Angeles serves Los Angeles County by providing in house medical care to injured or sick seals and sea lions that strand on the 70 miles of beaches from Malibu to Seal Beach.
You can also visit the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium to explore the Rocky Intertidal Exhibit and the refreshed Tide Pool Habitat. Since 1935, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium has been exhibiting Southern California’s rich diversity and adaptations of local sea life through a combination of aquaria, interpretive displays and museum collections. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Susanne Lawrenz-Miller Exhibit Hall, Exploration Center, Aquatic Nursery and Virginia Reid Moore Marine Research Library comprise a unique science education facility where visitors of all ages can pursue informal marine biology education, ecological awareness, and scientific research training. The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 5pm.

The #Photowalks series is all about bringing viewers to cool places in the Southern California (and elsewhere) area in search of the best photo spots to light up your social media, and to show how, when and where to get them.
Past #Photowalk episodes include visits to Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Balboa Island, the Griffith Observatory and Venice Beach. We went outside the area to trek to Pismo Beach, a road trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Tokyo and Kauai.
