10. Rurrenabaque
The charming town of Rurrenabaque, or Rurre, is a backpacker’s paradise. It is situated on the shores of the Rio Beni, and is the jumping off point for many jungle, pampas and riverboat tours that last between one and thirty days. The lowland tribe people here, the Tacana, are one of the few who were resistant to Christianity, so the town does not have the typical setup of a central cathedral square. These days, however, it gets a large enough tourist trade that the culture mostly caters to Western tourist tastes.
9. Coroico
The name of this town is derived from the quechua word meaning “golden hill.” Its location on the side of the Andean foothills gives the resort village of Coroico a spectacular view of lush jungle forest, tropical foothills and jagged, icy peaks. It is low enough in elevation to be warm, and a great stopping point on the way to or from La Paz. Extreme mountain biking is a draw here, though there are several lovely hikes in this region as well to lovely waterfalls and hilltop views.
8. Sorata
Located between La Paz and Lake Titicaca, the sleepy town of Sorata serves as a base camp for visitors who want to hike in the mountains of the Cordillera Real. The granite slopes of the Cordillera Real lie in the Altiplano, or “high plains,” of the widest part of the Andes Mountains. Six of the towering peaks of the range are over 20,000 feet high. Hikers come to Sorata to plan and prepare for mountain-climbing treks.
7. Copacabana, Bolivia
This resort town on the shores of Lake Titicaca appears very touristy, but it has a long history of being a mecca for religious pilgrims. This is the place to board a ferry to the islands of the Sun and the Moon, and to enjoy the beach of the Incas. Those who like to wander outside the touristy part of town will find pleasant hikes and great views, as well as a combination of beautiful Incan and colonial ruins.
6. Potosi
Potosi is one of the world’s highest, and before its discovery by the conquistadors, it was also one of the world’s richest cities. The famed city of silver was by many accounts everything that the Spanish were looking for with El Dorado, except that the metal they found was silver instead of gold. Today, Potosi is a popular place to visit in Bolivia, known for its friendly inhabitants, lovely colonial architecture and tours of the famed mines that once housed over sixty thousand tons of silver.
5. Sucre
Sucre was once the nation’s capital, and is famed throughout South America as the White city. The town’s central area has beautifully whitewashed and well-kept buildings that are worth seeing. This is an old and wealthy city whose rise in status was tied very closely to Potosi.
4. Oruro
This miners town is one of the largest in Bolivia, and is best known for its lavish costumes and festivities during carnivale season. The festival features thousands of dancers and musicians, performing a broad variety of ethnic dances. Off season, it is a great place to experience the high plains, and is home to several good museums and the artisanal street of Calle La Paz, which makes many of the costumes and masks for the festival, as well as tourist reproductions to bring home and display.
3. Tiwanaku
Tiwanaku, found on the southern shore of Lake Titicaca, was the capital city of one of the most important civilizations to exist prior to the Incas. Archaeologists have excavated only a small part of the city, but they estimate that at its peak at least 20,000 people lived in the city.
2. La Paz
La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia, while Sucre is the constitutional capital. Situated on steep hills at an elevation of roughly 3,650 meters (11,975 ft) above sea level, La Paz is the highest “de facto” capital city in the world. The sight from the air as one flies into La Paz is incredible.
1. Salar de Uyuni
Located in the Andes Mountains, Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world. It has an extraordinary flatness with the average altitude variations within one meter (3 feet) over the entire area of the Salar. The expanse of salt creates an unending white landscape during the dry season, but the area is most breathtaking in the rainy season when it is covered in water.

10 Best Places to Visit in Chile - Travel Video
Check out all the places seen in this video:
Squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific, Chile is sometimes called the longest country in the world. It is never more than 180 km wide, but its coastline extends over 4,300 km. It’s unusual long shape has given it a varied climate with one of the world’s driest desert in the north, while its southern tip is home to cold-weather creatures like penguins. Chile is also one of the closest nations, along with Argentina and New Zealand, to Antarctica. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Chile:
Which tours YOU should take in San Pedro de Atacama
When you are traveling to San Pedro de Atacama, you will find a lot of tour agencies which are offering all sorts of tours.
Picking out the best tours can be quite overwhelming due to the variety of choices.
I did a lot of research before coming to San Pedro de Atacama and spoke to a lot of travelers online and offline, which tours are the best to take. In this video, I will show you which tours are worth your money.
Side note: Since I went to the 3-day Salar de Uyuni Tour, I decided to skip the Hidden Lagoons and Geysers in San Pedro de Atacama since it is quite similar. Many people who travel to San Pedro de Atacama have either done the Salar de Uyuni or will do it. If you won't do it, I would recommend you to do these two tours in San Pedro de Atacama.

DAY 0 - TRAVELLING TO CHILE
Flying from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Santiago and then to Calama airport, which is the closest airport to San Pedro de Atacama.
We spent one night in Calama, though if I'd plan this trip again, I'd go straight to San Pedro!

Discover The Atacama Desert: Laguna Ceja, Moon Valley And San Pedro De Atacama
This 3 part series is a tour of the Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest place on earth! The Atacama Desert is incredible, a photographers paradise. We start by visiting the amazing VALLE DE LA LUNA, LAGUNA, CEJAR & San Pedro de Atacama. Our Self Drive Atacama Desert Tour will give you all the tips, ideas and advice for a safe and memorable self-drive stay in a place that is just out of this world!
Check out all our Chile Travel Guides at
Planning a trip outside your comfort zone is not always easy. Let us show you how accessible the Atacama Desert can be, and that doing a self-driving tour can not only give you the freedom to see what you want but is actually more cost-effective than booking all the tours available from San Pedro de Atacama the tourist hub of the desert.
In this first episode, we make our way to the Desert from Calama after hiring a car using and picking up some supplies at the local supermarket.
Lider Supermarket
Our accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama was the Planeta Atacama Lodge
San Pedro de Atacama is about 100km and a 1 hour 30-minute tarmac (easy) drive from Calama. The town has plenty of hotels, hostels and B&B's to suit all budgets. If you do have a car consider that the town does not have great parking facilities so pick a hotel that has a secure carpark if you can.
Food and Drink in San Pedro can be more expensive than in other Chilean towns and this is understandable considering everything has to be shipped in. There are still reasonable places to eat but not all are allowed to serve alcohol so check if that is important for you.
The Valle de la Luna Moon Valley is an incredible first-day experience and one not to be missed. Close to San Pedro, the off-road parts of the reserve are easy to navigate and help you get started with driving in this area. Remember to always carry water with you as you walk around, it's amazing how quickly you can become thirsty. Sunscreen and a hat also essential.

Laguna Cejar 19km outside of San Pedro de Atacama is about a 30 to 40-minute drive on a dusty bumpy track it's quite expensive and unless you plan to swim in the salty water we would not suggest you bother going and save your 30,000 pesos for other areas.

Exploring the Valley of the Moon in San Pedro de Atacama
Chile 🇨🇱 April 2023
After lunch in the town of San Pedro de Atacama we made our way to the other worldly landscape of Valle de La Luna (Valley of the Moon) 🌝.
A National Park dotted with dunes, craters powdered in salt 🧂. This place has been used to test Mars Rovers, and is the filming location for many TV shows and movies such as the Mandalorian.
We witnessed an epic sunset from a nearby lookout 🌄 overlooking the valley itself!
