The Best of Guadalajara, Mexico in One Day
Click this link to try Vessi shoes for yourself!
We are in Guadalajara, Mexico! We drove 300 kilometers from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara to explore this city! We only have one day in Guadalajara, and we did our best to see and experience as much as possible in our one day in Guadalajara. Mexico has plenty of awesome big cities, but Guadalajara is known to be one of the best ones to visit as a tourist in Mexico because it is stacked with culture, art, and great Jalisco food! Jalisco is the state of Mexico that Guadalajara is in, and is quite famous because it is the birthplace of tequila.
We chose to start our exploration of Guadalajara by joining a walking tour to see all the major historical and cultural sites in this impressive city. Over 2.5 hours, we visited the Plaza de la Liberacion (Liberation Plaza), Rotanda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres (Rotunda of the Illustrious Jaliscienses), Plaza Guadalajara, Guadalajara Catedral (Guadalajara Cathedral), Devil's Alley, and Plaza Tapatia. It was a jam packed tour where we learned so much about Guadalajara and the history of Jalisco .
After our walking tour, we headed to a recommended lunch spot called Los Famosas where we had the chance to try a very famous Guadalajaran food called tortas ahogadas. This affordable lunch food is a marriage of the French baguette and Mexican flavours, made in the form of a very filling sandwich. We love trying new foods in Mexico, and today's was a great success!
Possibly our favourite part of our one day in Guadalajara was our visit to San Juan de Dios market. This is the largest market in all of Latin America, and we could have easily gotten lost in the maze of stalls and sections that seemed to repeat one after the other. The only part of our day that wasn't dog-friendly was visiting Museo Cabanas, so only Mico got to see the inside of the beautiful piece of Guadalajaran history. And then, about 25 minutes away from the centre of Guadalajara is an area called Tlaquepaque which is said to be well worth the visit, even if you only have a day in Guadalajara like us. We made the drive toward the end of the day and didn't have a lot of time to look around, but we quickly learned that Tlaquepaque is a beautiful community that puts the region's arts skills on display in the best way. Not only were there sculptures and murals everywhere, but no matter where we walked we were always surrounded by musical performers showing off their abilities. We only wish we had more time and money to spend in this beautiful place!
Our next video is going to be a big one - we are driving from Guadalajara all the way to Puerto Escondido - a 1200 kilometer / 750 mile journey through some of the most beautiful parts of Mexico. Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss anything!
