Crossing the US/Mexico border on foot - day trip to TIJUANA

Tijuana, Mexico is the most visited border city in the world, and in this video, you'll follow our journey crossing the US/Mexico border on foot twice (going to Tijuana in the morning and returning to San Diego, USA in the afternoon). We went through the San Ysidro port of entry, which is the busiest in the western hemisphere. You'll also see how we spent the day in Tijuana walking across Zona Centro (the historical downtown) and eating delicious Mexican food.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time 😉

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE US MEXICO BORDER (SAN DIEGO & TIJUANA)

What's happening at the US Mexico border crossing? Head to to save 10% OFF your first purchase of a website or domain using code MALINIANGELICA
______________
Living in the US Mexico borderland region is unique in so many ways! In this video I visit both San Diego and Tijuana to find out how the border has shaped daily life and people's sense of identity, and how Mexican and American culture has overlapped to create a unique borderland culture that's not found anywhere else in the USA or Mexico. From the Mexican Californian food fusion to the frequent US Mexico border crossings between both countries, both legally and illegally, it's interesting to see how living on the border with another country impacts the life of borderland residents and the culture of the borderlands themselves. It's especially interesting to learn about the history of the USA and Mexico, and explore the border region in its historical context, because California was once Mexican territory before becoming part of the United States.

Walk from San Isidro Border to Downtown Tijuana

San Ysidro Medical Fast Pass Driving Directions - Eastbound

The route we depict here and in the video is the best way to get to the San Ysidro medical fast pass lanes if you are coming from the coastal toll-road (highway 1D). It is the same route you would take to the regular (all traffic) lanes, however you need to get into the special Fast Lane depicted in the video.

You can also enter an additional medical fast pass lane heading west from Paseo de los Heroes. Here is a route to access the medical fast pass westbound from Paseo Heroes: Here is a video of the same route:

DO NOT RELY ON GOOGLE/WAZE/APPLE NAVIGATION! It is often inaccurate and will take you to the wrong lane or on a route in which access is blocked.

The medical fast pass is provided by medical services and other businesses in baja and allows you to enter the All Traffic or Ready Lanes ahead of where the line ends - basically allowing you to legally cut in line. For more information on the Medical Fast Pass and how to get one, visit For more information on the different border lane types and what documents are necessary, visit

We also highly recommend using Baja Bound insurance when traveling to Mexico

An Outlet Mall at the Border Crossing? Shop till you drop at the Border with Mexico! #shopping

We continued exploring what we could find along the California-Mexico Border and just before we reached the border crossing into Tijuana we found an outlet mall! The San Ysidro Border crossing is one of the busiest land border crossings in the world, and right beside it you can get your shopping on with a whole bunch of outlet stores at Las Americas Premium Outlets! We had fun checking out the mall, the food court and the food trucks, all in the shadow of the border wall.
