Crossing the US/Mexico border on foot - day trip to TIJUANA

Tijuana, Mexico is the most visited border city in the world, and in this video, you'll follow our journey crossing the US/Mexico border on foot twice (going to Tijuana in the morning and returning to San Diego, USA in the afternoon). We went through the San Ysidro port of entry, which is the busiest in the western hemisphere. You'll also see how we spent the day in Tijuana walking across Zona Centro (the historical downtown) and eating delicious Mexican food.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ????

First, we take a quick walk from Friendship Arch on Revolution Avenue in downtown Tijuana to San Ysidro where more then 50 million people cross the U.S./Mexico border each year. At San Ysidro, we show you the extraordinary difference in using the Sentri line versus the general line for the pedestrian crossing. Crossing the border from San Diego to Tijuana Mexico at the San Ysidro and then back to the USA can take a very long time. This was my first trip in a very long time and unless you have a sentri pass, enhanced driver's license, or global entry be prepared to wait in a very long line.

Check the wait time but take it with a grain of salt:

Crossing the US/MEXICO Border ???????? My First Day in Tijuana, Mexico

???? WATCH NEXT: Best Tacos in San Diego!
???? PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, it helps a ton!
???? TRAVEL DEEPER Shirts:

Tijuana, Mexico is one of those special places on this planet that everyone has an opinion about before they've ever visited. I decided it was long-over-due for me to travel down from San Diego and cross the border into Tijuana for a week of eating, exploring, and education.

The US/Mexico Border Crossing just south of San Diego to Tijuana, Mexico is the most highly trafficked border crossing in the entire world. More people cross the Tijuana San Diego border than anywhere else on earth, that's crazy to think about!

Obviously, one of the most polarizing aspects of Tijuana, Mexico is the border wall that is being constructed from the Pacific Ocean, past San Ysidro, past Otay Mesa, heading east towards Arizona and Texas.

After crossing the San Ysidro Pedestrian Border Crossing south of San Diego, our first order of business in Tijuana was to go visit the Parque de Amistad (Friendship Park) in Playas de Tijuana, where the border wall actually goes all the way into the Pacific Ocean.

From Parque de Amistad, we traveled to lunch in the Lagos neighborhood of Tijuana for delicuous gorditas and quesadillas.

After lunch, we got to see the massive border crossing line from Tijuana to San Diego.

We also checked into our Tijuana Airbnb near the Telefonica Gastro Park and finished the day at Norte Brewing, right next to Avenida Revolución in downtown Tijuana.

Special thanks to Border Tours for helping me navigate this incredible border city, and showing me all of the best things to do in Tijuana, Mexico;

Stay tuned for more videos from Tijuana, Mexico coming up next!

San Ysidro Ready Lane Driving Directions - Reliable Route

The route we depict here and in the video is a longer way to get to the entrance of the Ready Lanes. We feel it should generally be reliable even in heavy traffic times such as at the end of a long weekend. Please note that in peak travel periods such as the holiday season, this route may not work because the line can be much further past where you join the line in this video. Do not try to cut in the line or pay anyone to help you cut in the line - this is punishable by traffic fines and even confiscation of your vehicle.

We've also included a shorter route to the San Ysidro Ready Lanes, that is not shown in the video: Please be advised that if you attempt to take this shorter route when there are longer wait times, you may be redirected by traffic officers to get the back of the line. This can be very confusing for a lot of border crossers, which is why we have opted to show the longer route depicted in the video.

DO NOT RELY ON GOOGLE/WAZE/APPLE NAVIGATION! It is often inaccurate and will take you to the wrong lane or on a route in which access is blocked.

For more information on identity documents eligible for use with the Ready Lanes, visit For more information on the different border lane types and what documents are necessary, visit

We also highly recommend using Baja Bound insurance when traveling to Mexico

Free Tijuana border parking: How to Park Your Car and Walk Across the Border to Tijuana

The fastest and most convenient way to travel to Tijuana is to drive to the border, park on the US side, and walk across the border at one of the pedestrian crossings.

There are a number of parking options to choose from. The best place to park depends on how long you're staying in Tijuana, which border crossing you plan to use, and your budget.

If you're planning on staying for less than 72 hours, it's possible to park for free and take public transport to the border. If you're staying for more than 72 hours, the safest option is to park in one of the paid lots near the border then cross at one of the pedestrian crossings.

The pedestrian crossings include PedEast and PedWest in San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, and the Cross Border Express.

It's also important to consider the cost of parking. Border parking is expensive. Expect to spend around $10-$15 for day parking and $20-$40 for overnight parking. Hopefully, this video helps you save a bit of money and makes border parking a bit less stressful.

This video outlines:

-2 free Tijuana border parking options.
-How to use the paid border parking lots

Exploring SAN FELIPE, Baja California Mexico! (TRAVEL GUIDE)

San Felipe, Baja California is located on the western coast of the state along The Gulf of California. San Felipe is known for it’s beaches, fishing, relaxed atmosphere and off-road desert racing! In this Mexico Travel vlog we drive from Ensenada across Baja California to San Felipe where we will show you things to do in San Felipe, take you out to eat some delicious seafood, hike up to a beautiful viewpoint, go off-road racing in The Valley of the Giants and take a trip down to Puertecitos Hot Springs. We visited San Felipe during the winter so it was quite chilly which meant we weren’t able to swim, but it also meant less crowds. I heard that San Felipe, Baja California can get quite busy in the summer and on the weekends so plan accordingly! And if you are looking for some more Mexico travel inspiration on the Baja Peninsula you can check out our playlists! Thanks for watching!

How to Cross the Border from US to Mexico in a Car | QUICK GUIDE

This is a How to QUICK GUIDE on crossing the border from the US to Mexico in a car with foreign (non Mexican) plates. When researching how to drive across the border I came across way too many videos on YouTube that were 10, 15, 20 minutes long and who has time to watch all that? So I decided to make a better one for those looking for good information, QUICKLY!

***Edit: I have heard mixed reports about completing the entire TIP process online. Some say it can be done and others have stated that it cannot. When I was researching the process myself the Banjercito website was often spotty or non functional. For me, I’d rather just visit the Banjercito in person. You will need to stop at the border crossing and get your FMM stamped either way and often the Banjercito and Immigration Office are in the same building. We are not claiming this is the ONLY way to complete the process, but do believe it is the easiest way with the highest rate of success.

Documents needed to cross the border:
1. Valid Driver's License
2. Passport
3. Multiple Immigration Form (FMM)
4. Temporary Import Permit (TIP)
5. Mexican Auto Insurance
6. Original and Copies of Vehicle Registration
7. Original and Copies of Vehicle Title

Wilson's Tips;
1. Make sure your vehicle registration is up to date and not expired. You can face fines and penalties up to vehicle confiscation.
2. Have both the originals and copies of all needed documentation printed out before you get to the border.
3. Don't leave the border without getting your FMM stamped first. There will be a checkpoint several miles down the road. If your FMM is not stamped you will have to return to the border.
4. Don't forget to stop at the border Banjercito and cancel your permit before you leave the country. This is the only way to get a refund for your deposit. You do not have to visit the same one as the border crossing you entered the country at.
