Walking along Canal Saint-Martin, Paris France 4K

Walking along Canal Saint-Martin Paris France
The Canal Saint-Martin is a 4.6 km long canal in Paris, connecting the Canal de l'Ourcq to the river Seine. Over nearly half its length, between the Rue du Faubourg du Temple and the Place de la Bastille, it was covered, in the mid-19th century, to create wide boulevards and public spaces on the surface. The canal is drained and cleaned every 10–15 years, and it is always a source of fascination for Parisians to discover curiosities and even some treasures among the hundreds of tonnes of discarded objects.

Escape to the Best Hidden Gem Paris Parks and Gardens

In this Paris vlog we explore the best Hidden Gem Paris parks and gardens. We are retired and slow traveling through and enjoying the Parisian beauty of this city. It’s an enormous city and it can get overwhelming. Fortunately we’ve learned that whichever part of Paris we’re in, we can always chill in a park or garden. In Japan, the practice of being with nature is called forest bathing or green bathing. The most famous parks in Paris are Champ de Mars, Jardin Tuileries, and Jardin du Luxembourg. While lovely, these gardens are huge and filled with people. We prefer the smaller less known gardens. So we take you to our favorite hidden gem gardens including Coulée Verte René-Dumont, Jardin du Palais Royal, Jardin Villemin, and Park Monceau.

If you’re reading this we bet you love to travel.

❓ Answer to the trivia question at the end of the video: Originally from China, Dr. Qing Li has been at the forefront of Japan’s forest bathing movement for decades. As the practice’s biggest champion, Li has led several research studies on the mindfulness technique, in addition to writing 'Forest Bathing: How Trees Can Help You Find Health and Happiness.' In an excerpt from his book, Li writes '(Forest bathing) is not exercise, or hiking, or jogging. It is simply being in nature, connecting with it through our senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. Shinrin-yoku is like a bridge. By opening our senses, it bridges the gap between us and the natural world.'

Finding a GREAT budget hotel in Paris (Ibis Canal Saint Martin review)

Weekend trip from Paris to the Loire Valley

2:15 Amboise castle, gardens and Loire
5:59 Clos Luce castle, gardens and Loire

14:14 Orleans

Loire Valley is quite a unique area in France with about 300 castles and a very reach history which simply made us to visit at least a few places during the weekend trip from Paris. We only scratched the surface by stopping by the Amboise, Chamont, Clos Luce and Blois castles and quickly visiting Tours, Blois and Orleans. Although each of these places do deserve much more time than we had during our trip - we are still very happy to be able to see all of them in person! And - we definitely will be back!

And, quoting Wikipedia:

The Loire Valley (French: Vallée de la Loire, pronounced [vale də la lwaʁ]), spanning 280 kilometres (170 mi),[1] is located in the middle stretch of the Loire river in central France, in both the administrative regions Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire. The area of the Loire Valley comprises about 800 square kilometres (310 sq mi).[2] It is referred to as the Cradle of the French and the Garden of France due to the abundance of vineyards, fruit orchards (such as cherries), and artichoke, and asparagus fields, which line the banks of the river.[3] Notable for its historic towns, architecture, and wines, the valley has been inhabited since the Middle Palaeolithic period.[2] In 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire River valley to its list of World Heritage Sites.

Beaune: classic Burgundy, UNESCO site and vineyards

A trip to Burgundy would be not complete without visiting Beaune - a city with a long history, lovely streets, amazing vineyards - a UNESCO site which can't be missed and the Hotel Dieu!

The duchy of Burgundy used to be very powerful in 15th century, and even rivalled France for wealth and influence. Nevertheless, the Hundred Year war in Europe (fought mostly between England and France, but Burgundy got involved too) brought a lot of diseases and devastation to the area. This was a major reason why the Hospices of Beaune- a beautiful hospital designed to take care of the sick poor- was created. It was inspired by gothic buildings in Flemish region, which was part of Burgundy at the time.

Let's go!
