REUNION ISLAND: Ultimate Travel Guide to VOLCANOES & BEACHES in the Indian Ocean
This is the French paradise in Africa! Far away in the Indian Ocean is an incredible nature paradise island called La Réunion. Between Mauritius and Madagascar, this island has crazy white beaches, stunning volcanic landscapes, lush waterfalls and cosy colonial towns.
During our two week family holiday full of sun, beaches, hikes and great food, I show you all the highlights of La Réunion and all the top sights. At the airport in Saint-Denis we rent a car and drive to Boucan Canot, a hotspot near the best beaches. We visit the best snorkeling spot at Plage de l'Hermitage and drive down south to Saint-Pierre. We visit the volcanos at Piton de la Fournaise and see the best jungle waterfall Cascade de Grand Galet. Of course we brought the drone for perfect 4K footage. This video is the perfect guide for a family holiday to Reunion Island!
In the previous episodes you saw how we made a road trip from Cape Town to Kruger Park in South-Africa. We drove the Cape Namibia Route along the West Coast to look for animals in the Kalahari Desert. After that we crossed the border into Namibia, where we drove straight through the world's highest sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. We saw all the sights in Namibia and wend on for a safari in Etosha National Park. Lately we visited Botswana and Zimbabwe, to cross the border again back to South Africa. After the Kruger Park, we fly out of Johannesburg to take you island hopping on Mauritius and also the French island of La Réunion.
Our journey through Africa is part of a one and a half year trip around the world. We can even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. La Réunion is already destination number 26, after Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Zanzibar & Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mauritius. We have also been away from home for one and a half year now. Follow us on this world tour, now in La Réunion and then to many more beautiful destinations across the globe! We still travel non-stop all year and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

MAURITIUS ISLAND TOUR ON A BUDGET: Île aux Benitiers (Mauritius Road Trip Ep. 3)
In this video we’re going on a budget boat tour on Mauritius to the beautiful island of Île aux Benitiers. There are many boat tours available that can be quite expensive, so we wanted to try and organise the boat tour ourselves. We had heard that you can go to the dock in La Gaulette and ask the local fishermen to take you to the island by boat. We had to haggle a bit but then settled on a price that we think is pretty good for the value we got. By going on this DIY boat trip we got a private trip which also meant that we could ask our skipper to bring us to the spots that we wanted. We visited a snorkel spot, saw the popular Crystal Rock and then went to a more secluded spot on Île aux Benitiers. After our boat trip we continued our road trip to Flic en Flac where we’ll be spending a few days!

This video is part of a multi-part series of our ultimate ROAD TRIP THROUGH MAURITIUS! Mauritius is a popular honeymoon and beach holiday destination but it has so much more to offer than beautiful beaches (although there are many of them as well). We’re really excited to get to know this African island country and its culture and cuisine. On our road trip we’ll spend three weeks driving from the South up the West coast, then further into the North and finally down the East coast. Our goal is to get to know Mauritius from all sides, as well as check out its beautiful beaches and nature.
Subscribe to come along with us on this road trip – we promise it'll be fun!

Home to a population of approximately 150,000, Port Louis is a melting pot of cultures and history. Our tour takes you through the city's iconic spots, starting with the Central Market, nestled among the lively streets of Farquhar, Corderie, and Queen Street. Established in the 19th century, the market is a hub of local life, offering a colorful array of fresh produce, exotic spices, and traditional handicrafts.

St Pierre Mauritius, a walk in a town that feels good.
St Pierre is going to surprise you. From the street foods, friendly people, shopping, history, the mall and simply enjoying a walk in a town that feels good.
We started at the bus station near the Bazaar St. Pierre sign, I'm still laughing. After looking around the new market, which hasn't opened yet, and the bus station we made our way to get some snacks for breakfast. Riki had some bhajis and I got deep-fried bread, it was battered first, and they both tasted great.
After strolling through the shopping area, where there appears to be a lot of diversification, including people selling shoes and vegetables from the same shop. One of them had fish tank equipment in a clothing shop. They were also a whole host of seedlings for sale, but we stopped else were. I needed new sunglasses, as the wire I was using to hold them together, has started to rust! I got the perfect pair, and they were on discount, which was great, but not as great as Riki's find; perfect jeans for only Rs 150. She was really happy.
A short stroll down the side streets brought us to a bridge and the church that the town is named after, Saint Pierre church. Build-in 1769, it has stood the ravages of time with its accompanying cemetery with grave markers from the same time. We peered over the wall and then continued to our planned next destination.
The main road did have lots of traffic and noisy motorbikes, but it also has a lot of old buildings. Some were still in use, but others looked abandoned. It wasn't until we looked closer that we saw that the builds were still in use, only the frontage was unused. At the town limits, we found our next destination, a Chinese noodle shop, with a build your own ramen bowl. We built our masterpiece and took it to the park to enjoy.
A surprisingly tranquil area in the heart of the town. Great benches overlooking the stream and a gazebo to sit out the occasional rain shower. The noodles with tea-stained egg, roast beef, green stuff, and Shenzhen sauce was the best noodle dish I have eaten so far. When they open for sit down I will go back and get a full ramen bowl.
Riki mentioned the growth of the accommodation in the area as we passed the 1903 convent. It would be a great place to spend a couple of days, with the town life, great foods and the nearby hiking.
I went a little gaga over the beautiful old train station. The stonework is still in pristine condition, but unfortunately, the woodwork has started rot and with it, the roof is slowly going, but still a monument to the time when rail ruled the land. Around it there are large factories and businesses, some of the supporting buildings have been repaired and being used, but the station and an old shingle-walled build, with its strange benches, have been neglected.
We closed out the day at Kendra mall with its KFC, Pizza Inn, and many fine shops, and of course very well-appointed toilets. A baguette with some cold meat and cheese from Winners supermarket was our choice for supper.
