We begin our Baja California Road Trip crossing the border at San Ysidro (between San Diego and Tijuana) again. On my first trip crossing the US/Mexico border at San Yisidro, just outside of San Diego, I spent a week across the border discovering the best things to do in Tijuana, Mexico.
On this trip, we’re taking Baja a bit further with a Mexican Road Trip from Tijuana to Rosarito, Puerto Nuevo, Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe, Tecate and Mexicali.
The state of Baja California in Northern Mexico is home to beautiful landscapes and delicious Mexican food, and I’m on a mission to explore the best things to do (and eat) across the region!

On this first episode of Travel Deeper Mexico (Baja Edition), we head south from Tijuana to Rosarito, Mexico where we eat an incredible breakfast at El Nido Restaurant in downtown Rosarito. The main attraction here is Machaca de Venado, or shredded deer meat with quail eggs and freshly made tortillas. El Nido Restaurant has been here since the 1970s and it is a must-stop on your way down through Baja to Ensenada.

Next we made a quick stop at the Playas of Rosarito for a coconut water, and to watch all the hungover souls from a wild weekend and Papas and Beer and the other beachside clubs in Rosarito. Rosarito is very well known to be a party city, and many spring breakers come down to enjoy the bars and clubs here.

While still in Rosarito, we head over to Tacos El Yaqui, one of the most recommended places on this Baja trip. Tacos El Yaqui is also a Rosarito staple, established in the 1980s. The main attraction here (and only thing they sell) is the carne asada tacos on flour tortillas.

Tacos El Yaqui was honestly one of the best tacos I've had in Mexico... and thus, one of the best Mexican Foods I've ever had.

From Rosarito, we drove south down Baja to Puerto Nuevo; said to be the Lobster Capital of Mexico. They actually sell more lobster in Puerto Nuevo than anywhere else in the world.

We visited Ortega's Restaurant overlooking the water, and had a beautiful and delicious spread of sweet, tender lobster! Again, with incredible homemade tortillas, rice, beans, and lots of great salsas. If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend coming to Baja and driving to Puerto Nuevo. The lobster here was incredible!

From Puerto Nuevo, we keep driving south to Ensenada, where we will explore the best things to do in Ensenada on the following day.

Our first day back in Baja California, Mexico was perfect, and I can't wait to share the rest of the episodes from this Mexican road trip with you, as we seek out the best things to do and best Mexican Food in Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada, Puerto Nuevo, Ticate, Mexicali, and my personal favorite Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's wine country!

Stay tuned!

Things to Do and Eat in Rosarito Beach, Baja California, Mexico [October 2022]

Located 10 miles, or 16 km, south of the US-Mexico border, Rosarito is a coastal city in Baja California situated on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
This beach town has a long-standing reputation of wild parties, delicious seafood, stunning beach views and stellar surfing.
Since it’s just a short drive from the US, if you are making a trip to San Diego, you should seriously consider spending a day or 3 in Rosarito.
We decided to skip the hotels and go camping along the beautiful Baja shores.
While Rosarito is mostly known for its huge extravagant parties and nightlife, we found many activities outside the bar scene... AND some great places to eat.
We are also going to show you the Devil's House!
Are you ready to go check out Rosarito? Then let’s get started!

VISITING ROSARITO, MEXICO | ATVs, Tacos, Margaritas, and More!

We are BIG fans of visiting Mexico, and one of our favorite places to go is Rosarito, Mexico. We live in San Diego, so it's less than an hour drive which is super easy. Rosarito is home to beautiful beaches, delicious food, and the famous Papas and Beer.

We started our day with a huge breakfast at Pancake Republic, located right next to the iconic Rosarito Beach Hotel. We were so full from the delicious meal we needed to walk it off!

Next, we strolled over to the Rosarito Beach Hotel and its surrounding areas. Eventually ending up on the beach, we bartered with some locals to rent ATVs and ride along the beach.

Riding the adrenaline rush from ATV-riding, we then ventured to Tacos El Yaqui. Home to some of the finest tacos we have ever eaten, we savored our time there and would absolutely make a trip back just for the tacos.

The tacos were followed up with more walking and a few margaritas. We needed an afternoon nap, so returned to the hotel to rest and wash up before dinner.

Later that night, we dined at El Nido. It has a rainforest decor, friendly staff, and delicious food. We were talking with our server and found out there is a wine cellar below it! We ventured down after our meal to investigate.

Things to do in Rosarito, Mexico

Things to do in Rosarito, Mexico, Weekend getaway to Rosarito, Road trip from San Diego to Rosarito.

Rosarito is a very popular destination for Southern Californians looking for a day south of the border in search of Mexico beach town fun! Rosarito, Mexico is less than an hour from the United States, but feels like another world away. From the gently lapping waves to the seriously explosive sunsets, from the wildlife to the spas, Rosarito is truly a laid-back destination, with things to do for everyone.
Most travelers are drawn to Rosarito for the beaches, some of the best on the Baja California Peninsula. Once upon a time it was a getaway for the Hollywood elite.
it's a sunny coastal community that draws travelers for extreme sports like surfing, ATVing, jet skiing, and diving.

Rosarito has been a surfer's paradise for decades, so you can imagine how wonderful the beaches are. Rosarito Beach used to be reserved for Hollywood’s film sets, but today everyone from locals to vacationers enjoys the sand and sea. The main beach is wide and long. It’s great for taking a stroll or for a jog.

You’ll find vendors selling everything from Mexican blankets to food and jewelry along the beach as well as in the open-air market.

One of the most popular things to do during a visit to Rosarito is a horseback ride on the beach. Many of the horse owners walk their horses on the beaches of Rosarito and you can negotiate a price for 30 or 60 minutes.

If you want a party scene, head to Papas and Beer as it is said to be the largest beach nightclub on the west coast. It has 7+ Bars, a Performance Stage, Pool, Sports Bar and much more!

Just 20 minutes out of Rosarito is the seaside town of Puerto Nuevo. A phenomenal dining destination that overlooks the Pacific coast, Puerto Nuevo is an excellent day trip or evening trip from Rosarito, if you're looking for a change of scenery.
With more than 40 restaurants, Puerto Nuevo is certainly a foodie's paradise.
This little village is famous for its traditional lobster dinner. There are around 30 restaurants in the village, but my favorite is La Casa del Pescador.

El Nido Restaurant originally opened in 1971 as a bar but today it feels like a cross between a restaurant, jungle and vintage shop. Tables in the many dining rooms are surrounded by plants, vines, waterfalls, fountains, art, and artifacts.

The small seaside city is bursting with art galleries and furniture stores. From iron sculptures to galleries and workshops, it's easy to take a piece of Rosarito home with you.

Sleep in the halls of history when you book a stay at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. Not only a legend among Hollywood elite, but this hotel is also one of the very first locations that put Rosarito on the map.

Walk along the main Boulevard Benito Juarez, where there are lots of interesting shops and restaurants and will end at the Rosarito Beach Hotel Lobby.

Rosarito Tourist Zone Baja California Mexico

Checking out Rosarito's tourist zone on a Sunday weekend. Rosarito is a coastal resort city in the Mexican state of Baja California located approximately 10 miles south of the U.S. border. Often mistakenly called Rosarito Beach because of the well-known Rosarito Beach Hotel. Many American expats live in this town or prefer to party here.

The parking guys were annoying as usual, screaming in my ear and trying to make me park at their lot.

Its beaches, bars and dance clubs are a popular destination for young and old people from the United States during weekends and holidays. The city is the second largest in the Tijuana metropolitan area and southern beach city of the San Diego–Tijuana metro region.
