🇱🇧 Explore Beirut, capital of Lebanon | by One Minute City
Beirut is the capital and largest city of Lebanon. As of 2014, Greater Beirut has a population of 2.4 million, which makes it the third-largest city in the Levant region. The city is situated on a peninsula at the midpoint of Lebanon's Mediterranean coast. Beirut has been inhabited for more than 5,000 years, and was one of Phoenicia's most prominent city states, making it one of the oldest cities in the world (see Berytus). The first historical mention of Beirut is found in the Amarna letters from the New Kingdom of Egypt, which date to the 14th century BC.
Beirut is Lebanon's seat of government and plays a central role in the Lebanese economy, with many banks and corporations based in the city. Beirut is an important seaport for the country and region, and rated a Beta + World City by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Beirut was severely damaged by the Lebanese Civil War and the massive explosion in the Port of Beirut. Its cultural landscape underwent major reconstruction.

10 Things NOT To Do in Lebanon!
For a nation on the border of Syria and Israel, you might expect some possibility of danger when visiting Lebanon. You'd be right. If you want to maximize your chances of having a pleasant vacation, here are some things not to do on a Lebanese holiday.
1. Don’t Be Afraid!
The people in Lebanon are perfectly friendly and the country is filled with gorgeous landmarks and fascinating history. Just relax and enjoy yourselves.
2. Make Sure to Dress Appropriately
Lebanon is a pretty conservative Arab country. Men and women are expected to avoid wearing anything more revealing than short-sleeves and shorts. Make sure your clothing is loose-fitting; women should consider covering their heads as well.
3. Don’t Just Stay in Beirut
Lebanon has some really gorgeous locations outside its most popular tourist spot. The people are generally hospitable and warm, and you can’t really say you’ve experienced true Lebanese culture until you’ve experienced something beyond Beirut.
4. Don’t Get Into a Taxi Without Agreeing on a Price
Some tourists have complained that they were “taken” by cab drivers when they couldn’t agree on a final price. Avoid this by telling the cabbie where you’re going and agreeing on a price before you get in the car.
5. Don’t Forget that ‘Traveler’s Diarrhea’ Is a Real Thing
If you’ve never traveled to a developing nation, you should be aware that your first-world immune system might take a small hit … like, right when you land. Sometimes the jolt to your bowels hits quickly but it’ll pass quickly, don’t worry.
6. Don’t Take Pics of the Military
You can look at their installations, but your best bet is to simply keep your eyes on the beautiful scenery, not on the men trying to defend it.
7. Stay Away from Dahiyeh
The world famous suburb in southern Beirut has attracted lots of attention. Don’t go see it for yourself. The residents of Dahiyeh are just suburbanites who don’t appreciate being gawked at by some leering tourist.
8. Don’t Skip the Street Food
Lebanon is known for its scrumptious street food. There are several excellent meals served on a street corner, so if you’re just sticking to the glitzy restaurants, then you’re missing out on an integral part of Lebanese culture.
9. Don’t Take Pictures of the Locals Without Permission
There’s not some old world spooky superstition attached to this one, it’s just rude. How would you feel if you were walking down the street and a group of people wearing traditional Arab garb started taking pictures of you?
10. The State Department’s Opinion
Earlier in the year, the Department of State issued a clear warning to avoid travel to Lebanon thanks to political upheaval, skirmishes and other threats. In fact, the State Department has said that it cannot guarantee its ability to transport US citizens out of the country should the situation worsen.

5 Fun Things To Do in Jounieh, Lebanon
#jounieh #jouniehlebanon #jouniehtelepherique
In this video, we'll take you on a tour of 5 fun things to do in Jounieh, Lebanon. The best part is that if you start in the morning, all 5 of these Jounieh activities can be done in less than 24 hours. In fact, you'll even be left with time to spare so you can enjoy the Jounieh nightlife.
Start your day by riding the Jounieh Telepherique / Jounieh Teleferique up to Harissa to see the Statue of Our Lady of Lebanon, a 13-ton sculpture of the Virgin Mary that overlooks the Bay of Jounieh.
Next, take the Jounieh Telepherique back down towards the old souks of Jounieh. While there's no particular order in which to enjoy this beautiful coastal Lebanese city, you could opt to grab lunch at Margherita Mare, or any of the nice restaurants nestled on the Jounieh Bay.
Head to nearby Jeita Grotto, the largest cave system in the Middle East and a near inclusion for the 7 Natural Wonders of The World. For a more in-depth look at the Jeita Grotto, check out our video of these famous Lebanese caves:
Also, Jounieh has lots of walkways and paths for walking and bicycling near the Jounieh Port. It's especially pleasant to stroll this area during the summer. You can walk from the Jounieh souk right to the bike paths and there are also playgrounds for kids.
Additionally, you can go paragliding in Jounieh, sunbathe on the Jounieh beaches, try your luck at the Casino Du Liban, and grab a drink at Palms Beach House in old souk of Jounieh.
The Jounieh nightlife and entertainment is plentiful. The food scene is excellent as well.
As for restaurants in Jounieh, grab a bite at La Creperie in nearby Kaslik, eat in a telepherique cable car on the beach at La Funivia, enjoy fine dining at the French restaurant Zeralda, or let the kids roam and eat at the Peninsula Restaurant and Gardens or go alone later at night for string lights and candles romantic ambiance.
In any case, there's no shortage of activities in Jounieh. However, if you need to Byblos and Beirut are just a short drive North and South, respectively.

Lebanon Travel Guide
Lebanon is a small country in the Middle East on the Mediterranean Sea with 3.7 million people, and its capital is the old city of Beirut. It has a long shoreline on the Mediterranean Sea's eastern shore.
Lebanon has a long and illustrious history.
The country is littered with Phoenician, Egyptian, Greek, Persian, Roman, Arab, Crusader, and Ottoman remains, the most important of which are easily accessible. Byblos, Beirut, Tyre, and Sidon are among the world's oldest continually inhabited cities. In Beirut, there are Roman baths, as well as the Cardio Maximus, to name a few. Byblos is also rich in Crusader ruins. Lebanon has many old mosques, synagogues, and churches.
Lebanon has a diverse natural landscape, ranging from gorgeous beaches to mountains and valleys. The country is one of the few nations where you can go skiing in the morning and then go to the beach in the afternoon.
Lebanon is an amazing and diverse Mediterranean Middle Eastern country with beautiful cosmopolitan cities, rich local cuisine, and fascinating history from the Phoenicians, to Rome, to Biblical stories- Lebanon is perfect for the history buff. Walk through an ancient ruin, party in one of Beirut’s trendy nighclubs, take a dip in the Mediterranean’s warm waters, and enjoy some of the best Middle Eastern food in this beautiful and friendly country. Though this country has gone through some turbulent times in recent decades, it is still a relatively safe country and should definitely be visited in your lifetime.

Ashrafieh (also spelled Ashrafiya), is one of the wealthier areas in eastern Beirut, Lebanon. This district is the highest point in Beirut and refers to the hill that rises above Gemmayze in the north and extends to Badaro in the south, and includes the Rmeil quarter.
The area contains a high concentration of Beirut's Ottoman and French Mandate era architectural heritage. During the civil war, when Beirut was separated into eastern and western halves by the Green Line, Achrafieh changed from a mostly Christian residential area (compared to bustling, cosmopolitan Hamra, in Ras Beirut) to a commercial hub in its own right. In the early 2000s, the area became a focal point of the city's real estate boom.
Administratively, Achrafieh today designates a quarter of the city, made up of 9 sectors (Achrafieh, Adlieh, Corniche el-Nahr, Furn el-Hayek, Ghabi, Hotel Dieu, Mar Mitr, Nasra, Sioufi). However, Saint Nicolas and Sursock Street, which are strictly within the quarter of Rmeil, have always been considered part of Achrafieh by local residents. Similarly, certain southern parts of the administrative quarter, such as Adlieh, are generally not considered to be part of the area. Achrafieh is therefore defined somewhat nebulously and synonymously with East Beirut.
Achrafieh comprises residential areas characterized by narrow winding streets and cafes along with more commercial areas, with large apartment and office buildings and major arteries between central Beirut and the north-eastern suburbs. The following neighborhoods are counted within Achrafieh:
- Accaoui, a hill leading from Gemmayze up to the Sursock neighborhood
- Furn el-Hayek
- Karm el-Zeitoun, a densely populated settlement that was established by Armenian refugees in the 1920s, who were later joined by Syriac Christians, Syrian refugees and migrant workers
- Mar Mitr, named after the Saint Demetrios Church, hosts one of the city's main Greek Orthodox cemeteries
- Mar Naqoula or Saint Nicolas, named after the parish church; includes Sursock Street with its old palatial villas, the St Nicolas Stairs (Escalier de l'Art) and many office buildings (Sofil Center, Ivory Building)
- Nasra, named after the Dames de Nazareth girls school
- Rue Monot
- Rue Huvelin
- Sassine Square, a busy road intersection atop the Saint Dimitrios hill, roughly coterminous with the Achrafieh sector, named after the Sassine family, the original landowners
- Sodeco Square
- Sioufi, a residential area on the southern slopes of the hill, built on land that was used for hunting in the mid-twentieth century; named for the Sioufi family, which established a furniture factory here
- Tabaris Square and Abdel Wahab Street
