Qazvin (/kæzˈviːn/; Persian: قزوین, IPA: [ɢæzˈviːn], also Romanized as Qazvīn, Caspin, Qazwin, or Ghazvin) is the largest city and capital of the Province of Qazvin in Iran. Qazvin was an ancient capital of the Safavid dynasty and nowadays is known as the calligraphy capital of Iran. It is famous for its Baghlava, carpet patterns, poets, political newspaper and Pahlavi (Middle Persian) influence on its accent. At the 2011 census, its population was 381,598.
Located in 150 km (93 mi) northwest of Tehran, in the Qazvin Province, it is at an altitude of about 1,800 m (5,900 ft) above sea level. The climate is cold but dry, due to its position south of the rugged Alborz range called KTS Atabakiya.
Iran - Amazing Historical Monuments in Qazvin province
Qazvin, an ancient and touristy City, is located 135 kilometers northwest of Tehran on the foothills of Alborz mountain range. Qazvin is one of the most important cultural and economic centers in Iran thanks to being located on the most important roads of the Country, possessing a vast and fertile plain and buoyant agriculture, enjoying temperate climate, having industrial cities in its surroundings together with various religious schools.
The establishment of Qazvin, based on some historical writings, dates back to mid fifth millennium before Christ and according to other findings to the Sassanid era in Iranian history. Apparently, Shapoor Zolaktaf (310-371 AD) ordered the building of a castle to prevent Deilamiyan’s aggressions in an area that later became the City of Qazvin. Some historians believe that the name Qazvin is derived from Kashvin, meaning border keeping and some orientalists are of the view that the name is taken from the name of tribes called Kaspin who settled to the west of Caspian Sea.
The City was the capital of Iran in the Safavid era for 51 years (from 955 After Hejrah) and is therefore of cultural and historical significance in Iranian history.

OMG Trip 10: Iran - Qazvin
Yesterday we have moved from Tabriz to Qazvin. Today we wanted to go to Alamut valley which is little bit north from city to see some castles and beautifull nature. Unfortunately the weather is against us. It's supose to rain today and even guide does not recomend us to go... The road there is only about 80 kilometers but even in good weather conditions it takes 3 hours. In rain it is really dangerous try to go there. So we are staying in the city and later today we'll go to Teheran.
We came into the mosque a there is a funeral right now. The crowd of people came carrying a coffin. They bring it inside the mosque for a minute and they a leaving now. Oooh who is this mummy here? Hmmm in every mosque they dress me into chador and It's difficult to walk around in it because it fell down all the time.
Haha. You should turn other side haha. What are you doing here Filip? Simply I admire it.
And this is a persimon it is season now. Filip just ,, stole '' one... Yes I'm a criminal but I did it for you because I love you. And what now? Fast so we don' get to prison.-)
You wouldn't believe but it started to rain so we are going to hide and get a cup of tea, coffe, tea, coffe...? Before this place was a caravan retreat now it is a shopping zone. We came to coffe shop which was recomended to us by our friends Maral and her husband Ruzbeh. It is realy nice coffe shop and we like it very much. Fifo is going to have a coffe after more than two weaks and I'm going to have hot chocolate.
I have lost bottom on my brand new pants. Likely we found a shop where they repaired it and it all cost only like 10 cents. And we came right on time because they are going to close.
Our friends also recomended us a restaurant so we are going to find it. We found it and it looking really nice and fancy We are going to order ,,peimenesar''. Which should be really good and Maral told us to have it here. It is rice with redcurrant a there is a meat on the bottom. It was delicious.
Our 24 hours in Qazvin is going to end. All we have to do is wait for the bus in this line. What do you think how many buses will have to come so we get in? I think that it will be 3rd bus we'll get in. And what do you think? After 1 hour of waiting I'm optimis 2nd bus. Again we had a good experience after a while the first bus came. We didn't get in but one man came and toke us through back doors.
We don't know why he did it but we are in the front seats on the way to Teheran now. The route should take about 2 hours. We trevel for about 2,5 hours now because of trafic. So we'll see how many more time it take.

Chehel Sotun or Kolah Farangi is one of the most important monuments of the Safavid era in Qazvin. It was built after Shah Tahmasb decided to move the capital from Tabriz to Qazvin. It is located in the middle of a large garden in the center of the city. You don't need a ticket to enter the garden but if you want to see the inside of the building, you have to buy tickets.

Qazvin is the largest city and capital of the Province of Qazvin in Iran
Qazvin has been called the old city “Arsas” or “Arsasia” in the ancient writings of Europe, “Razhya” in the Greek histories and “Ardia” in the era of Ashkanian. Moreover, the Sasanians have called it “kashvin”. Some people called it “Qasvin” or the city where people are strong and firm and some historians called it “kaspian” because kapest tribes were migrated from the vicinity of Mazandaran Sea to the plains of Qazvin, lived with the native tribes and others have gone to the center of Iran. Therefore, Khazar Sea is known to Bahr Al-Qazvin or Qazvin Sea.
Qazvin is related to Median era, ninth century BC based on historical documents. At that time, south and south west mountainous parts of Qazvin were regarded as Median territories which were invaded by different nations including Ashur and Kasiha. Buin Zahra which is located in the south of Qazvin was the habitat of human communities in the fourth and fifth Millennium BC.
Original buildings of Qazvin are attributed to Shapur Zolektefaf. Shapur founded Qazvin, made forts, conducted defenses and placed his armies there in order to avoid invasion. Over time, Shapur military base was developed and the kernel of Qazvin was created. The location of the city was very important as a passageway of Tabarestan and Mazandaran (Khazar) sea. After Arab’s attacks to Iran and the beginning of Islamic conquest era, Bara Ibn Azeb, Arab’s famous commander, blockaded Qazvin. In Islamic era, Qazvin was changed into a base of the next operations of Arab’s armies. In 192 Hijri “Harun Al-Rashid” came to Qazvin, developed the city and built Jame Mosque.
Naser Khosro Qobadiani has been described Qazvin as follows in his travelogue in 438 Hijri:
“…there were plenty of gardens, without any wall and barrier to enter there and I saw Qazvin as a pleasant city with good Bazaars but the water was little and the head of city was Alavid”.
From the end of fifth century until the attack of Holaku to Sma’ilian castles, Qazvin was affected by the events that were related to Sma’ilian movements including Hassan Sabbah and his deputies. Several buildings and monuments were erected by choosing Qazvin as the capital in Safavid era and during Shah Tahmasb kingship.

4k Iran - Qazvin - Kahak Wind Farm |
Kahak (Persian: كهك, also Romanized as Kakhak, Kūhak, and Kūkak) is a village in Khorramabad Rural District, Esfarvarin District, Takestan County, Qazvin Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 1,956, in 440 families.
The energy system of Iran relies primarily on fossil fuels. However, the country has made steps to decrease its dependency on fossil fuels by investing in wind power.
With the help from Sadid Industrial Group (Iranian manufacturing company) and investments as well as resources from Indian (Sulzon Energy) and German (Siemens) wind turbine companies, Iran has been able to build a strong and stable wind sector. In 2004 Iran generated only 25 megawatts from wind power, 32 megawatts in 2005, and 45 megawatts in 2006. By 2009, total wind power capacity reached 130 megawatts. This was a result of the production of larger wind farms in more coastal and windy areas of Iran, such as Manjeel (Gilan province) and Binaloud (Razavi Khorasan Province).

Jameh Mosque of Qazvin With Pasargad Travel Agency
The Congregational mosque of Qazvin, also known as Masjed Jāme-e Kabīr, is located on the western side of Shohada Street. The mosque is a real museum of Iranian-Islamic art, and architecture: including exquisite decorations and architectural plans from early centuries of Islamic period to the Qajar era. As the story goes, the mosque was built by Haroun al-Rashid, the Arab Caliph. Based on available historical data, Haroun al-Rashid had a short stop in Qazvin on his way to Khorasan in 808 (the second century of Islamic era). As a result of this short stop, the fire temple of Qazvin, dating back to the Sassanid period, changed its architectural character and function, and turned into an Islamic mosque. For years, the southern ayvan of the mosque housed and protected parts of the original fire temple, but it was destroyed at the hands of Mongols and Afghans.
The current plan of Jame Mosque of Qazvin includes two portals, one on the eastern side (in Shohada Street) and the other on the north-western side. The eastern portal is the main entrance to the mosque, bearing lofty, magnificent decorations. Based on the oldest inscription on the portal, it was built in 1664, at the time of Shah Abbas II (1642-1666). However, the portal was restored several times during different eras, as testified by the presence of various inscriptions representing different dates. According to one of these tiled inscriptions, the portal was first renovated by an affluent person of Qazvin, Mohammad Sadeq Khan, in 1777. Then, based on another inscription, Ali Naqi Mirza, the Qajar ruler of Qazvin and son of Fath Ali Shah, commissioned some further restorations in 1835. Finally, as a tiled panel on the forehead of vestibule shows, the portal underwent restoration for the last time in 1934.
The above-mentioned portal opens to a vestibule (hashti) behind the eastern ayvan and, in this way, it joins the courtyard through two 10-meter wide corridors on the southern and northern sides. At this time, the mosque contained also another entrance behind the western ayvan, but it was blocked after a while. Then, in 1856, it was replaced by another entrance on the north-west side of the mosque.
Furthermore, the large rectangular courtyard of the mosque stretches from east to west, covering an area of 4000 square meters. The courtyard is encircled by four ayvans and their flanking arched corridors (ravaq). It is interesting to know that each ravaq was named after the prayer Imam, who led the daily prayers in that ravaq.
