Places to see in ( Hexham - UK )

Places to see in ( Hexham - UK )

Hexham is a market town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, south of the River Tyne, and was the administrative centre for the Tynedale district from 1974 to 2009. Smaller towns and villages around Hexham include Corbridge, Riding Mill, Stocksfield and Wylam to the east, Acomb and Bellingham to the north, Allendale to the south and Haydon Bridge, Bardon Mill and Haltwhistle to the west. Newcastle upon Tyne is about 25 miles (40 km) to the east.

Hexham Abbey originated as a monastery founded by Wilfrid in 674. The crypt of the original monastery survives, and incorporates many stones taken from nearby Roman ruins, probably Corbridge or Hadrian's Wall. The current Hexham Abbey dates largely from the 11th century onward, but was significantly rebuilt in the 19th century. Other notable buildings in the town include the Moot Hall, the covered market, and the Old Gaol.

Hexham's architectural landscape is dominated by Hexham Abbey. The current church largely dates from c. 1170–1250, in the Early English Gothic style of architecture. The choir, north and south transepts and the cloisters, where canons studied and meditated, date from this period. The east end was rebuilt in 1860. The abbey stands at the west end of the market place, which is home to the Shambles, a Grade II* covered market built in 1766 by Sir Walter Blackett.

At the east end of the market place stands the Moot Hall, a c15 gatehouse that was part of the defences of the town. The Moot Hall is a Grade I listed building, and was used as a courthouse until 1838. The Old Gaol, behind the Moot Hall on Hallgates, was one of the first purpose-built jails in England. It was built between 1330 and 1333 and is a Grade I listed Scheduled Monument. Hexham Library can be found in the Queen's Hall. It contains the Brough Local Studies Collection which is the second-largest local history collection in the county.

Hexham is bypassed to the north by the A69 road, linking it with Carlisle to the west and Newcastle to the east, which bypasses the original route, the A695. The town is served by Hexham railway station on the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, also known as the Tyne Valley Line. The line — part of the UK publicly owned national rail network — was opened in 1838, and links the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear with Carlisle in Cumbria. The line follows the course of the River Tyne through Northumberland.

( Hexham - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Hexham . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Hexham - UK

Rather than just go to Newcastle for a few hours at the health spa I decided to do a short walk beforehand. I travelled via Moorthorpe so I could have a breakfast at the Mallard café.

Prudhoe Bay Alaska to Key West Florida in 7 mins

In June of 2015 Stuart, Frenchy, Jimmy, & Paolo attempted the Ultimate Iron Butt Challenge that involves riding a motorcycle from the furthest north road accessible point of America (Prudhoe Bay Alaska) to the furthest south (Key West Florida) The route is roughly 6,000 miles but our totals were right at 9,000 as we had to ride the bikes to Prudhoe Bay from Washington and back to Texas from Key West. We also added to the ride the Top of the World Highway through Chicken Alaska to Dawson City Yukon, the Icefields Parkway, Field of Dreams filming location, and the Tail of the Dragon crossing from Tennessee to North Carolina.

IS ALASKA RIGHT FOR YOU? - How to Travel to Alaska

First of all, if you’ve never looked at a road map of Alaska, check out google maps for a minute. There are VERY few roads in the entire state. So unless you’re a bush plane pilot there are really only a few locations that are even accessible by car.

We’ve divided Alaska in to the 3 most visited regions in the state:

1. Interior Alaska: the home of Fairbanks, The Dalton Highway, Denali National Park and the cute town of Talkeetna

The Kenai Peninsula
In our opinion, if you are flying in or driving to Alaska you really can have a TOTAL Alaska experience by just visiting the Kenai Peninsula. Here’s 8 quick reasons:
1. People fly in from all over the world just to fish the salmon in the Russian River.
2. If you’re looking for other fishing, you can always book Halibut fishing out of Homer or Seward/seward. Hope you catch more fish than we did.
3. Kenai Fjords National Park is home to the Harding icefield and its 30 outflowing glaciers….or nearly 40 glaciers. The National Park site said both numbers. We can all agree that’s a lot of ice.
4. The Kenai is packed with wildlife: bald eagles, humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, sheep, bears…just to name a few. If you’re as bad at spotting wildlife as we are, you can always visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and see just about everything including musk ox, which might be our new favorite friends.
5. In the Kenai peninsula alone you’ll find some of Alaska’s best museums, aquarium and again, the Alaska wildlife conservation center. You should seriously go here. They have Musk Ox, again, which are awesome.
6. This is also one of the best jump off points scenic flights or sea plane adventures, including a trip over to Katmai National Park: Home of the famous brooks falls for brown bear viewing. Maybe you can get a shot of a fish going into a bears mouth. We didn’t.
7. The Alaska Railroad comes down here for a reason. It’s a beautiful trainride which we didn’t take ourselves, but we saw them next to us on the road pretty often. The road was beautiful drive therefore the train must be a beautiful ride. Also, online reviews say its awesome.
8. Whether you're hoping to explore mountains or ocean, from the coastal rain forests around Seward and Kodiak to the rough Arctic chill of glaciers flowing off the Harding Icefield—there’s a huge range of diversity here.

ABOUT US:
We’re traveling full time, living on our own terms and showing you the up-close-and-personal details of us figuring it out along the way. Sometimes it’s about navigating big, life-altering decisions. Sometimes it’s about navigating the seemingly lawless free-for-all that is driving in Hanoi. It’s moments of triumph and moments of panic. The good, the bad, the ugly – and most importantly, the real and real funny.

We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.” Just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem. We believe the world’s a more interesting place when people reject convention in favor of what they actually care about. This is us putting that idea to the test – one budget spreadsheet, RV renovation and mountain-peak drone video at a time.
