Villa Romana del Casale might be off the beaten path of tourist but it is absolutely worth it! The Villa Romana has a huge collection of some of the best preserved ancient Roman mosaics from almost 2,000 years ago! In this video I show you not one but two locations to visit in this part of Sicily! Before we visited the Villa Romana we explored the cute medieval town of Piazza Armerina! We were pleasantly surprised with this sleepy town! There were no tourists and the best enoteca ever! We loved the wines, meats, cheeses, and above all amazing arancini!

Filadelfia - Piccola Grande Italia

In una posizione privilegiata, a metà strada tra il Golfo di Squillace e quello di S. Eufemia, sorge il caratteristico comune di Filadelfia, situato nella zona centrale della Calabria.
Quest’affascinante cittadina deriva dal preesistente insediamento di Castelmonardo, distrutto nel 1783 da un terribile terremoto in seguito al quale la popolazione si trasferì sul Piano della Gorna.
Su proposta del vescovo Giovanni Andrea Serrao, sostenitore delle idee illuministiche, la nuova città assunse il nome di Filadelfia, (“amore fraterno”), richiamandosi chiaramente alla città americana, a partire dalla quale venne organizzata la struttura urbanistica della città.
La pianta di Filadelfia, infatti, fu modellata sulla base di quella della città americana, a croce greca, con due grandi arterie che, incrociandosi, creano quattro quadranti.
