What To Do In Prince George, BC || Top 8 Things To See & Do
We spent a week touring around the city of Prince George in British Columbia, Canada to see and do as many attractions as possible. We found eight top things to see and do in Prince George, BC and count them down in this video.
8 - Mr. PG: Mr. PG is the city mascot located at the corner of Hwy 97 and Hwy 16. This roadside attraction is a must-stop for any visitor to Prince George, although we found parking a bit difficult. Right behind Mr. PG is a condo complex with resident-only parking, so we parked next door at the Prince George Playhouse. An interpretive sign next to Mr.PG explains the history and evolution of Mr. PG over the years.
7 - David Douglas Botanical Garden: The botanical garden in Prince George is free of charge to visit (although there is paid parking) and is the most northern botanical garden in Canada. It is completely run and maintained by hard-working volunteers. Although it is small, it is a nice park to visit to get views of the mountains beyond the city and to enjoy the native plants they grow here. Their website here:
6 - Cottonwood Island Nature Park: Follow the trail that leads over the wooden bridge to see beautiful tree bark carvings Elmer Gunderson, a former City of Prince George employee who was commissioned to make these carvings for the 90th Anniversary of the city. A brochure and map of the carvings can be found here:
5 - Connaught Hill Park: This park is set atop a hilltop that overlooks Prince George and offers a 360° view of the city. There is parking, picnic tables, and gardens to enjoy and we noticed it was a popular spot for family BBQ's.
4 - Central BC Rail and Forestry Museum: The city of Prince George was built on the rail and forestry industries and so it is fitting that the museum holding these industry artifacts is located here. A small entrance fee gets visitors access to several buildings, train engines, train cars, and forestry equipment. Some interpretive signs are located throughout this (mainly) outdoor museum to explain the purpose or significance of the pieces. There is also a small train that can be ridden around the museum for kids and kids at heart. More here:
3 - Prince George Farmers’ Market: The market takes place Saturday mornings 8:30-2:00pm at the corner of 3rd Ave and Quebec St. A second (or maybe an extension of this market?) is also located 2 blocks away in front of the BC Provincial Court Registry. We enjoyed both and found prices very reasonable. For more information visit:
2 - Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park: Pronounced 'Klet-lee Ten-eh', this park is a beautiful city park along the Fraser river. There is a playground, gardens, Lheidli T’enneh memorial cemetery, small steam engine train ride, and The Exploration Place museum. We noticed it was popular for family gatherings and events. Park info:
1 - Northern Lights Estate Winery: This was our favorite stop in Prince George. They offer free tours on certain days of the week, which includes a free tasting. This fruit winery is Canada’s most northern winery and they make some really interesting wines. We thoroughly enjoyed the setting and getting to learn about their process, history, and location. The BEST place to FISH in CANADA | Prince Rupert, British Columbia
I am a filmmaker out of Grande Prairie, AB and I focus on creating video content for exciting companies. I have worked with lots of small Canadian/ Grande Prairie businesses such as King of Donair, Europa, Cree8iv Body Ink, Emerald Gardens, Sensory Solutions etc...
I started making travel edits while I travelled the world and slowly progressed to making professional content for businesses. Most of my video work is corporate which is awesome because I love business and I get to learn about all kinds of different operations.
Businesses have unique problems which I can solve with video, but travel edits are still my favourite thing to create. This fishing trip was very fun and lots of adventure was had.
If you are watching this and you operate a tourism based business in BC or Alberta and you have a unique problem associated with with COVID-19, send me an email to justinbishopphotography@gmail.com and we can discuss how an explainer video can help you increase your sales.

**The actual port we used was in Port Edward, a small port village just 10 minutes south of Prince Rupert, BC.**
Prince Rupert
A Port city on British Colombias Pacific North-West coast. A short 16 hour drive west of Calgary, Alberta. Just East of the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Where rugged shoreline meets plentiful fishing waters. In a season in which thousands of Salmon return to the inland rivers of BC to mate and die.
Two oil patch workers trek west to spearhead an epic fishing trip on their days off.Captain Huckabee and Skipper Bishop brave the elements in search of fame and glory upon the open ocean.
Fare Tales depict a distant chance to catch 150 pound Halibut and 100 pound Salmon off the coast of Stephens Island.
Will these two Sea farers triumph in the catch of their lifetime or will their shipping hull repairs wreck their Angler dreams.
One thing is for sure when fishing on Huck-Fin, the greatest fishing boat this side of the Wapiti, adventure is sure to come to those who drop 4 lines at once.

Is Prince Rupert, British Columbia worth visiting? (Canada's port city on the Alaska frontier!) 🇨🇦
Prince Rupert, British Columbia is one of the province's most underrated and undercelebrated towns. Located in a picture-perfect setting on the northwestern coast of British Columbia, less than 50 km from Alaska, this is the Pacific Coast at its finest. Towering snow-capped peaks juxtapose against the brilliant blue ocean, with mighty bald eagles keeping watch for the salmon that are abundant in these waters.
After a short 2.5 hour train ride from Terrace, I arrived in this town of 12,200 people to spend a full day exploring town before catching my overnight ferry southbound through the Inside Passage (next vlog!). While in Prince Rupert, I made the obligatory visit to the Cow Bay Waterfront district, where I stopped at the local Cowpuccino's cafe for a morning pick-me-up, had a delicious halibut lunch at Dolly's Fish Market (the local specialty), and admired its many parks and totem poles, before heading to Fairview Bay.

Round trip flight from Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii in bad weather.
Round trip flight in less than ideal conditions. We left Prince Rupert in good weather but hit a snow storm on the way to Haida Gwaii. But the weather cleared pretty nicely. On the way back from Masset to Prince Rupert, we hit multiple snow storms where visibility went from bad to almost none. We flew around the worst but had to land in the ocean 30 km out of town, then land again 5 km away from the Sea Plane base. We taxied that last 5 km portion since snow was still coming down hard.

The Most Northern British Columbia Seaport - Prince Rupert - E18
In this episode, we explore the most northern seaport in British Columbia Canada, known as Prince Rupert. The town is on situated on Kaien Island (approximately 770 km (northwest of Vancouver), and is to linked mainland British Columbia by a short bridge.
Prince Rupert was incorporated on March 10, 1910. It was named for Prince Rupert of the Rhine, the first Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. Until recent years Prince Rupert thrived on the fishing and logging industry. Now it is the tourist trade and shipping of seagoing containers keeps this town alive.
We saw many campers, trailers, and motorcycles that braved the trip up the Canadian highways to check out Prince Rupert.
I walked up the hills to this church I could see from the harbor. This is the First Presbyterian Church. A day before we got to Prince Rupert this church held their final service. The first services in the gothic church was held more than 110 years earlier.
