The climate of ABRUZZO, ITALY. HIKING FROM POPOLI TO ROCCACASALE. HISTORY OF ROCCACASALE TRAVEL VLOG

Roccacasale (locally La Rocca) is a comune in the Province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Built on the slopes of the Monte della Rocca in the central Apennines, the village overlooks the Peligna Valley and the town of Sulmona.

The village arose from a small settlement called Casali, which had few inhabitants prior to 925.

As a result of the construction of the fortified rocca, sited to control the entrance to the Valle del Sangro and the Cinquemiglia plain, from Saracen or Byzantine, the centre formed, with the passing of time, into a typical medieval walled village on the slopes directly under the castle. The higher part of the village consists of steep roads leading towards the castle, and linked by narrow passageways between buildings constructed on the naked bedrock. Inside the ancient village are the church of Saint Michael Archangel (consecrated in 1579) and the remains of the baronial palazzo, constructed by the de Sanctis, barons of Roccacasale, next to the church more recently than the castle; very little remains of the palazzo today.

Varenna is an Italian commune in the province of Lecco in the Lombardy region of Italy, located along Lake Como.

Neighboring municipalities
Bellagio, Esino Lario, Griante, Lierna, Menaggio, Oliveto Lario, Perledo

Protagonist in the past and today’s witness, Varenna has become one of the most popular tourist destinations on Lake Como, thanks to its wealth of history, art, architecture and culture. Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi are just some of the historical places that have given Varenna fame and international interest, but it is impossible not to take into consideration the medieval beauty of the Castle of Vezio and the large presence of churches, excellent examples of different periods of religious history Lombard.

Is Varenna worth the detour? With a stunning lakeside location, a charming old town, beautiful villas with botanical gardens and a medieval castle with breathtaking panoramic views, Varenna is one of the most beautiful and picturesque towns on the lake of Como. So yes, it's definitely worth the detour.

This small village, where you can still breathe in the traditions of yesteryear (above all, fishing), is home to elegant villas with botanical gardens (such as Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi) and beautiful walks between history and nature (Castello di Vezio and Sentiero del Viandante).

❗A visit to Varenna is a must if you are in Milan (from where you arrive after an hour train ride) or in one of the central towns on the lake such as Bellagio, Menaggio or Tremezzina, which are just 15-20 minutes away by ferry.

A historic fishing village dating back to the 11th century, Varenna is a unique and characteristic jewel of Lake Como.
Its subtle beauty gives amazement and a range of emotion to all those who visit.
Stroll along the cobblestone lanes, alleyways and ancient stone stairways.
See the famous villas and gardens on foot or from your privately-rented boat.
Walk the paths that surround the village or climb up to Varenna’s medieval Vezio Castle.
Soak in the sun at the local beach or cool off with a dip in Lake Como.
Then relax and take in the local ambience with an aperitvo or a meal
at one of several characteristic cafés or restaurants.
Varenna’s soothing calm is perfect for the sensitive visitor, who loves peace, culture, art, and history
or for the active visitor who enjoys the outdoors, good food, excellent wines and creating memories of a lifetime.

Explore Varenna
Although small, Varenna is one of the prettiest of the small towns on the shores of Lake Como in Lombardy, plus there are some very attractive gardens to visit, so we highly recommend a visit if you are exploring. Italian lakes. Although Varenna does not avoid visitors, it tends to be less crowded than some of the more famous villages around the lake.

As with most towns on Lake Como, you are likely to start your visit to Varenna with a walk along the lake front: the promenade is very scenic. The path starts at the jetty where you get off the boat. The first part of the walk is a narrow path that follows the edge of the lake.

As you approach the center of the village, you have a wonderful view of the harbour, the colorful houses and the church behind the houses, and towards the mountains that surround the village. This part of Varenna has several small bars and cafes and is an idyllic place to enjoy your lunch.

And from here I leave you to discover this magical place, it enchanted me, thank you for your support, I love you, be blessed

HIKING from Prezza to Pratola Peligna, ABRUZZO. The most beautiful medieval towns to visit in ITALY⛰

Prezza is a town and comune in the province of L'Aquila, in central Italy.

Abruzzo Visit Summer 2021 HD 1080p

Travels by Ralph Papa to Abruzzo Italy From July 28 to August 14 2021. Including Farindola, Ortona, Opi and Pescasseroli.

Sulmona, Abruzzo, Italy (by Scenic Gems)

Sulmona was one of the principal cities of the Paeligni, an Italic tribe, but no notice of it is found in history before the Roman conquest.
Sulmona is known for being the native town of the Roman poet Ovid, of whom there is a bronze statue, located on the town's main road and named after him.

Abruzzo: Pure Italy

A quick travel video tour of the beautiful Abruzzo region of Italy covering Guardiagrele, Lanciano, Capistrano, Sulmona, Castelli and Civitello del Tronto.

HIKING IN ABRUZZO, ITALY. The Montagne del Morrone, Apennines. WHAT TO WEAR ON A DAY HIKE? TREKKING.

The Montagne del Morrone are a mountain group in Abruzzo, central Italy, part of the Apennines. Overlooking the town of Sulmona, they are bounded by the Valle Peligna, the river Aterno and the Majella massif. They are included into the Majella National Park.

The range is composed of limestone, and have their highest peak in the Monte Morrone (2,061 m).

Vegetation include typical Apennine woods of beech and mountain pine, as well as the rare orchid species Nigritella widderi. Wildlife include Marsican brown bear, italian wolf, mouflon, red deer, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, Eurasian eagle-owl and Ursini's viper. Until the early 20th century, the bearded vulture was also present.

On a terrace of Mount Morrone are the remains of a Roman villa which allegedly belonged to the poet Ovid, which have been recently recognized as a sanctuary of Hercules Curinus. Here was found a small statue of Hercules resting, considered by some an original by Lysippos (now in the Archaeological Museum of Chieti). Nearby is the 13th century Morronese Abbey. In the mountain are also two caves in which the future Pope Celestine V lived his hermitage from 1239 and 1241.

Comprises of, ground floor, large kitchen with storage area, very large dining room, very large living room with a patio area just outside, stairs to 3 very large bedrooms, bathroom, large terrace area to the rear and wrap around balcony to the side and front enjoying the views.
