Back in 2013, my wife Ana and I spent 22 days driving around the beautiful Balkan country of Bulgaria. These are the 15 places you have to visit in Bulgaria!
1. Sofia
Bulgaria’s capital and largest city is the ancient city of Sofia. It’s the perfect city to begin your Bulgarian vacation. Check out Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the National Archaeological Museum, and the ruins of the Fortress of Serdika.
2. Rila Monastery
About 73 miles south of Sofia is Rila Monastery, the largest Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It’s famous for its beautiful frescoes!
3. Plovdiv
Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria. Check out the 2nd century Stadium, the Ancient Forum, the Old Town, and the pedestrian-friendly city center!
4. Hisarya
From Plovdiv, take a day trip to the ancient Roman town of Hisarya, which is home to some of the best-preserved Roman gates and walls in Bulgaria, as well as ancient streets, Roman baths, and an amphitheater!
5. Stara Zagora
In Stara Zagora, visit the Neolithic Dwellings Museum, the Regional History Museum, and the Roman Forum of Augusta Trayana!
6. Burgas

Pomorie, which sits on a rocky peninsula, was constructed in the fourth century B.C. near a salt lake that the ancient Thracians valued for its healing powers.Pomorie was formerly a competitor to Nessebar in terms of age and architecture, but it was mostly devastated by fire in 1906.With its occasional cobblestone alleys and classic wooden buildings, the town still has intriguing things to visit.Pomorie is an appealing area for year-round recreation and numerous health treatments for everyone who wants to relax and go away from the busy beaches. The city is small, but it is incredibly lovely, with ideal summer tourism conditions.Young people, families with children, adults, and seniors come to Pomorie throughout the summer.

Pomorie, also known as ancient Anhialo, presents itself to us with its rich history and attractive features. Situated on a peninsula that extends five kilometers into the sea, this town with a population of 14,560 has a unique character and atmosphere. Situated 18 kilometers northeast of Burgas and 408 kilometers east of Sofia, Pomorie impresses with its appearance, especially when entering through the long and narrow isthmus between the sea and the liman. From the north, the estuary of the Pomorie peninsula gives the impression of crashing into it, giving the town a unique landscape.
Pomorie is not just a town, it is also a popular tourist resort. Located only 20 kilometers away from Bourgas and 10 kilometers away from Nessebar and Sunny Beach resort complex, it offers exceptional natural conditions. The 4200 meters long sandy shore and the breakwaters, which effectively protect bathers, create ideal conditions for safe and comfortable swimming for inexperienced swimmers as well as for small children.
Apart from the beautiful coastline, Pomorie is famous for its diverse offer in entertainment and gastronomy. The pedestrian zone of the town is filled with cozy restaurants and bars offering not only national Bulgarian dishes, but also European cuisine. Special attention should be paid to the unique brandy produced by the local wine and brandy factory, which has gained popularity not only among locals, but also outside the country.
However, Pomorie is not only about resort recreation and gastronomic pleasures. There are also places in this town that can amaze with historical heritage. Architectural Reserve Old Houses of Pomorie is an old quarter where crooked cobbled streets and 19th century houses representing traditional Black Sea architecture have been preserved.
The main pearl of the town that welcomes every visitor is the Monastery of St. George. This active monastery, built in the 7th century, is a unique historical site in the southeast of Bulgaria. In Pomorie you can also visit the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord Christ, located on the edge of the peninsula. This church impresses with its unique architecture and abundance of icons, giving visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Bulgarian religious and cultural history.

POMORIE, BULGARIA, BLACK SEA RESORT TOWN
Only 20 kilometers north of Burgas is the cute resort town of Pomorie, it sits on a narrow peninsula.
It is only 18 kilometers south of the mega resort Sunny Beach, it is mostly popular with tourist who prefer less crowded and quieter atmosphere, may be a bit older and traveling more independently.
Also many Bulgarians and foreigners own condos, witch they use for a vacation.
You can buy a studio for around 20K, 2 or 3 bedroom flat for 50K to 70K or a luxury vaction villa for less the 200K.
Property taxes and maintenance fees are low.
NO timeshare scams, You own 100% and cost you less.
During the winter the area with the condos is like a ghost town, most of the places are closed.

Pomorie is a town and seaside resort in southeastern Bulgaria, located on a narrow rocky peninsula in Burgas Bay on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. In the immediate vicinity is the ultra-salty lagoon of Lake Pomorie. Pomorie is an ancient city and today is an important tourist destination. Pomorie was founded by the Ancient Greeks under the name Anchialos, though its more common name in Bulgarian was Anhialo (Анхиало) based on the Greek name. Possibly founded in the 5th or 4th century BC as a colony of Apollonia (today Sozopol), Anchialos was mentioned in Strabo's Geographica as a small town.
