1) Mammoth Mountain
At 11,059 ft Mammoth mountain is the highest ski resort in California and receives a large amount of snowfall compared to other Eastern Sierra peaks. About 400” annually. The Ski resort was founded in 1953 and has been providing endless entertainment for skiers, boarders, snowmobiles, and sightseers since.

2) Rainbow Falls
Rainbow Falls is the highest waterfall on the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River plunging 102 ft and eventually snaking all the way to San Francisco Bay. The falls are named for the rainbows that appear in their mist on sunny summer days.

3) Devils Postpile
Molten lava and glacial ice shaped these unusual rock columns. Basaltic lava more than 400 feet deep filled this narrow valley nearly 100,000 years ago. As the lava cooled, cracks formed on the surface to release built-up tension these cracks formed into hexagons which is one of nature's most efficient and stable shapes.

4) Lake Mary
The largest lake in the Mammoth Lakes Basin is nearly a mile long. This is a popular lake for fishing, boating and sailing is a great place to spend a hot summer day. Lake Mary Marina has boats, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and fishing gear rentals.

5) Backpacking/Hiking
My favorite summer activity in mammoth is backpacking with tons of epic trails and alpine lakes that you find a little solitude during sunset. A few of my favorite trails in the area are Duck Pass Trail, Thousand Island Lake, and Mammoth Crest.

6) Biking
Mammoth has loads of bike trails and paths and is extremely bike-friendly. Mammoth mt turns into a mountain biking mecca during the summer months. You can buy a lift ticket for your bike and boom down the mountain.

7) Fishing
Mammoth Lakes basin boasts 5 main lakes most of them stocked with trout! Twin Lakes is the first lake you arrive at and has the best campground in the mammoth lakes area.

8) Convict Lake
Convict lake is one of the most dramatic lakes that I’ve ever visited. Sevehah Cliff, composed of folded metamorphic rock, provides a colorful almost painted backdrop to Convict Lake.

9) Wild Willy's Hot Spring
This is by far one of the coolest things to do in the mammoth area. It’s down far down a rocky road and feels like the middle of nowhere but that’s half the point.

10) June Lake
June Lake is another picturesque lake in the area and one that probably deserves its own video. It boasts fantastic campgrounds, fishing, boating, and my favorite sunning on the beachy shores of the lake.

11) Hot Creek Geological Site
Hot Creek is like a tiny Yellowstone in the Mono Lakes region. There are beautiful blue hot pools and steaming water here. There is plenty of parking at the top of the canyon and a quick walk down to the creek is well worth the effort.

12) Mono Lake
Mono Lake is a salt lake that is close to the town of Lee Vining. The lack of an outlet for this lake makes this lake alkaline and helps to provide a perfect and productive habitat for brine shrimp.

13) Minaret Vista
Minaret Vista is a drive-up spot just before the entrance of Devil's post pile national monument. And is a must stop at sunrise or sunset.

14) Twin Falls Overlook
One of the most picturesque overlooks in all of Mammoth is one that you can drive up to. Twin Falls drains Lake Mamie as it tumbles into the Twin Lakes.

15) Earthquake Fault
The ripped-apart rock of the Mammoth Lakes Earthquake Fault shows off the tectonic powers of this ever-changing landscape.

16) Mammoth brewery
No trip to mammoth is complete without a trip to Mammoth Brewery. Perfect for after a day on the slopes or fresh off a backpacking trail in summer.

Whitewater Rafting: Rapid Classes Demystified

Class I? Class II? III, IV, V?! What does it all mean?

Rapid ratings don't seem simple, because they really aren't. The American system of whitewater rapid ratings is subjective (for example, a class-V rapid on one river can be totally different from a class-V on another) and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Further complicating things, a rapid's rating DOES NOT vary by water level, even though water-level changes can have DRASTIC effects on the objective difficulty and hazards of a rapid.

Well don't fret! In just a little more than a single minute, we're going to show you a typical example of each rapid rating from West Virginia's New and Gauley Rivers, and explain why it's rated that way. (Just keep that whole water-level thing in mind though, okay?)

US 50 On To Pollock Pines California

So instead of taking our usual route, interstate 80, over Donner Pass and into California, we thought would take a different way today. We decided we would take a little more scenic route, US 50. What a wonderful trip we had! Easily some of the most beautiful scenery we've ever witnessed. And we got to check off an item on our bucket list, finally getting to see Lake Tahoe! We had so much to see, we had to split the video into 3 parts!
We continue our trip westbound on US 50 through the Sierra Mountains. Lots to see!
This is where part three of our video trip ends. Please look for parts 1 and 3! We hope you enjoyed the ride!

Jenkinson Lake/Sly Park/Things to do at Sly Park Recreational Area

Sly Park Recreational Area at Jenkinson Lake in the wintertime is a hikers heaven. Sly Park Lake offers many things year-round, camping, boating, fishing, and hiking. We decided to say goodbye to 2021 with a magical snowshoeing trip around Lake Jenkinson.

You take Morman immigrant trail road past Jenkinson Lake to the left. Cross the 2cd damn and you will find a parking area. It is $5 for day use. During wintertime, the road can be closed so always check before heading up.

Heavenly Mountain Resort in the summer

📍 Burney Falls. One of CA's Most Beautiful Waterfalls

Burney Falls completely blew away my expectations!

The cascades are so dynamic it feels like the waterfall is alive. I couldn’t look away or put down my camera 😍

🥾 The hike to it is super easy. It’s about a one-mile loop with 167 feet of elevation gain.

🚗 Parking is $10 per vehicle.

The water may look inviting! But be warned! The water temperature can be in the 50’s!

The waterfall is created by snow melt coming off Burney Mountain 15 miles upstream.

Try to arrive early to avoid the crowds! Burney Falls is super popular!

Almanor A-Frame was our base camp for our trip to Burney Falls 🙂 We also went to Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lake Almanor, and The Subway Tunnel (A really cool cave system created by ancient lava flows).

If you’re planning a NorCal trip to any of these places, check out Almanor A-Frame on Aribnb (Link below) for a super nice place to stay!
