Rugeley is a historic market town in the county of Staffordshire, England. It lies on the north-eastern edge of Cannock Chase next to the River Trent, and is situated between the towns of Stafford, Cannock, Lichfield and Uttoxeter.
Beautiful park in uk Elmore park with waterfall lake and animals, Tourist place in Cannock UK
Rugeley is twinned with Western Springs, Illinois and in July 1962 the towns made telephone history on national television when the chairman of Rugeley Urban District Council made the first telephone call via the new Telstar satellite to the Mayor of Western Springs.
The town, historically known as Rudgeley or Ridgeley, is listed in the Domesday Book. This name is thought to be derived from 'Ridge lee', or 'the hill over the field'. In the mediaeval period, it thrived on iron workings and was also a site of glass manufacturing. During the Industrial Revolution the economy of Rugeley benefited from the construction of the Trent and Mersey Canal and then from it becoming a junction on the railway network.
#waterfalls#kidspark#lakes
For many years in the 1970s and 1980s Rugeley was served by British Rail, with four services each way to and from Stafford and Rugby/Coventry. After the closure of Rugeley A power station and Lea Hall Colliery and a reduction in rail freight, it became possible to open up the Rugeley to Walsall line for passenger traffic. Rugeley now has two railway stations Rugeley Trent Valley and Rugeley Town. Rugeley Trent Valley lies on the West Coast Main Line, and has a regular hourly service to London via Lichfield, Nuneaton, Rugby and Milton Keynes, and to Crewe via Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent. Rugeley Trent Valley also has an hourly service via Rugeley Town railway station and the Chase Line suburban route connecting to Cannock, Walsall and Birmingham. The major roads into Rugeley are the A460 from Cannock, and the A51 Lichfield to Stone. A new eastern bypass was opened in 2007 to facilitate the development of new employment areas on the former colliery site, and to reduce congestion in the town centre.

Places to see in ( Atherstone - UK )
Places to see in ( Atherstone - UK )
Atherstone is a town and civil parish in the English county of Warwickshire. Located in the far north of the county, Atherstone forms part of the border with Leicestershire along the A5 national route, and is only 4 miles from Staffordshire. It lies midway between the larger towns of Tamworth and Nuneaton and contains the administrative offices of North Warwickshire Borough Council.
Atherstone has a long history dating back to Roman times. An important defended Roman settlement named Manduessedum existed at Mancetter near the site of modern-day Atherstone, and the Roman road, the Watling Street (most of which later became part of the A5) ran through the town. It is believed by some historians that the rebel Queen of the Britons, Boudica was defeated at the Battle of Watling Street by the Romans in her final battle near Manduessedum.
In Tudor times, Atherstone was a thriving commercial centre for weaving and clothmaking. The town's favourable location laid out as a long ‘ribbon development’ along Watling Street, ensured its growth as a market town. While it remained an agricultural settlement in medieval times, attempts were made to encourage merchants and traders through the creation of burgage plots, a type of land tenure that provided them with special privileges. A manuscript discovered by Marjorie Morgan among the muniments of Cambridge’s King's College (Ms. C9), refers to the creation of nine new burgage strips from land belonging to seven of the tenants in Atherstone vill.
By the late Tudor period Atherstone had become a centre for leatherworking, clothmaking, metalworking and brewing. Local sheep farmers and cattle graziers supplied wool and leather to local tanners and shoemakers (an industry that continued until the 1970s), while metalworkers, locksmiths and nailers fired their furnaces with local coal and the alemakers supplied thirsty palates on market days.
The surviving inventories from 16th century Mancetter provide a fascinating glimpse into Atherstone’s Elizabethan merchants and traders, before the town was economically overshadowed by the bustling cities of Coventry and Birmingham. They show Atherstone at this time as a typical Midlands market town, taking full advantage of its location and agricultural setting.
The town is situated 5.6 mi (9.0 km) northwest of Nuneaton, 5.6 mi (9.0 km) southeast of Tamworth and 14 mi (23 km) north of the nearest major city, Coventry. Atherstone is close to the River Anker which forms the boundary between Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Witherley village is on the opposite bank of the river in Leicestershire, whilst the village of Mancetter is contiguous with Atherstone to the southeast.
Atherstone is on the main A5 national route and close to the M42 motorway. The Coventry Canal and a series of eleven locks runs through the town, as does the West Coast Main Line railway. Atherstone has its railway station on this line, with an hourly service 7 days a week to both London and Crewe via Stafford and Stoke. The historic railway station building, built in 1847, was under threat of demolition in the early 1980s. Thanks to a local group, the Railway and Steam Traction Society, listed status was obtained, with the building celebrating its 150th anniversary in 1997.

We do the locks on the hottest day of the year, and my GoPro gives up recording during the heat of the day. Temperature inside the boat flys past 30c.

04/Aug/2018. Polesworth, and walk: Nethertown - St Bees. (Day 2 of 5).
This was the second day, and the day I did Polesworth. I was heading for Ravenglass from here, but due to some incident between Carnforth and Ulverston (which I never found out about) I went via Carlisle. I took advantage of this and alighted at Nethertown for a walk back to St Bees. The weather was good and I was able to film one of the class 37 workings.
Unfortunately, when I got to St. Bees the next southbound train was cancelled, but it turned up at roughly the right time. It was running out of service to Barrow-in-Furness. I got on it, but was quickly order to get off because there was no available conductor. I was very tempted to make a big scene here and refuse to get off because I’m so sick of cancellations! The train was there and the driver could easily have dropped me off at Ravenglass, along with a couple of other passengers, but he refused point blank and was very rude and offensive! Needless to say a formal complaint was made about the cancellation and about his arrogant attitude. It was disgusting!
Polesworth Station
Polesworth Station is a 'Parliamentary Station', only seeing one train per day at 7:23 in the morning, towards Tamworth, Lichfield, Rugeley and Stafford, Monday to Saturday. Return tickets the same day are not possible and although by going on a circular route it may be possible to return a different day this is in all probability not practicable. There is no shelter or seat on the operating platform. However on the other plactform which is still in place there is a shelter but this is not accessible!
Warwick, Warwickshire
A short tourism video about Warwick in Warwickshire.
Warwick is steeped in history and is home to one of Englands best loved tourist attractions, Warwick Castle, the finest medieval castle in England.
The town centre is small, but packed with old buildings such as St Mary's Church, and East Gate and West Gate.
There are some excellent bars and restaurants, plenty of boutiques and antique shops and two museums.
Warwick Racecourse enjoys a full calendar throughout the year offering a great day out at the races.
