This is Part Two of a road trip from Port of Spain to Icacos. LA BREA to BONASSE, CEDROS TRINIDAD and Tobago. Road Trip Finding Lot 10 Dam Trinidad

In this video we go on a road trip searching for the dam in Lot 10, Parrylands, Guapo on the outskirts of Point Fortin Trinidad. As part of the search, we also see a snapshot of the petroleum history of Trinidad. The dam was constructed in the 1930's by United British Oilfields Trinidad (UBOT), the predecessor to Shell Oil Trinidad to supply water to the oil refinery in Point Fortin. It was previously a good place for freshwater fishing in south Trinidad for those who like fishing in ponds and rivers with guabine, coscurub, and cascadura. This video gives ideas on places to visit for those who enjoy a road trip in Trinidad, especially road trips in south Trinidad through the oilfield areas surrounding Point Fortin.

Experiencing South Trinidad

We decided to go on a Road Trip exploring the Southern parts of Trinidad. With a first stop for an East-Indian Breakfast in Debe and then onto La Brea, Point Fortin, Cedros and Icacos.

Sundar Popo - Born Sundarlal Popo Bahora was a Trinidadian and Tobagonian musician. He is credited as being the father of Chutney music.

La Brea Pitch Lake - the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world, estimated to contain 10 million tons. It is located in La Brea in southwest Trinidad. The lake covers about 100 acres and is reported to be 250 feet deep, there are natural pools which form in the rainy season that is good for a quick dip/swim.

Point Fortin - The smallest borough in Trinidad is known throughout the length and breadth of the territory of Trinidad and Tobago for its industrial activities which centre around producing, refining and marketing oil.

Cedros - A coastal village which lies on a south-western peninsula on the island of Trinidad is a quiet village with a history steeped in colonialism much like the other villages in Trinidad and Tobago. The village is known for its many Coconut Trees and Fresh Fish.

Icacos - Icacos Point is the southwesternmost point in Trinidad and Tobago situated at the tip of the long peninsula that forms St. Patrick County and is only 11 kilometers away from neighboring Venezuela. It is here that the road ends where it meets the seaside.

Trinidad and Tobago La Brea Lake Asphalt Biggest Pitch Lake In The World Tourist Destinations

The business was founded in 1851 by the tenth Earl of Dundonald who took out a patent for the use of asphalt from the Lake at La Brea. J.W. Previte and A.L Barber later joined the team and in 1888 secured a 21-year concession for the exploitation of the Lake. In 1949 the business was renamed The Trinidad Lake Asphalt Company. Ownership remained with the Previte Company based in the UK which comprised a network approximately 24 public companies around the world through which the asphalt was sold.
The Limmer & Trinidad Lake Asphalt Company became the first contractor to use asphalt from the Lake for road surfacing. In the early 1970s, when the UK market switched to Coal tar, asphalt became a much less popular product and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago took ownership of the asphalt extraction business in 1978.
