Russian Cosmodrome Baikonur
Baikonur Cosmodrome is a unique complex, consisting of the most complicated technical facilities, the world's first and largest cosmodrome of international significance. It is located in the territory of Kazakhstan close to the village Turatam.
The total area of the cosmodrome is 6717 square kilometers.
Started to be built on January 12, 1955, Baikonur became a cosmodrome in 1957. In the 1970s and 1980s it was the largest cosmodrome of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s the spaceport was departed from Kazakhstan. Now it is rented by Russia until 2050.
The world's first artificial earth satellite (October 4, 1957) and the world's first artificial satellites of the Sun, Moon and Venus were launched from Baikonur. This is where the world's first manned space flight was carried out (April 12, 1961 - Yuri Gagarin's flight on the spacecraft Vostok).

Rollout of the Soyuz spacecraft / Inside the Russian Space Program
Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to lead small group of travelers on our special tour, Inside the Russian Space Program. It’s hard for me to describe the amazing experience of being there at the Russian cosmodrome in Kazakhstan watching an actual manned space launch. Here is a little taste of one of my favorite parts of the whole experience - the rollout of the Soyuz rocket.
Seeing the Soyuz: Up Close
In the early morning, just as the sun is ready to come up, the huge hangar doors on the assembly building open slowly. Our group stands in wait only 10 or fifteen feet from the rail tracks that will carry the Soyuz to the launch pad. Workers attach it to a waiting locomotive, which begins to pull the rocket out backward, bottom end first, all its ports wrapped in red protective coverings. It’s so close it feels as though you could reach out and touch it. Cameras start to flash as the train begins to move heavily along the tracks, revealing each rocket stage until the full length of the giant Soyuz is passing by in front of us.
What an awesome sight!

How did Russians used to live in northern Russia?
The traditional wooden architecture was recognized at the time as one of the most characteristic features of the Russian North.
In the Arkhangelsk region, you can visit a unique place with unique examples of northern architecture dating back to the 17th century.
Rapid urbanization has led to the disappearance of many villages, so the idea of preserving wooden buildings arose during Soviet times.
At the end of the 1980s, some buildings, churches, chapels, and peasant houses, scattered all over the Arkhangelsk region, were put under state protection; as a result, a kind of open-air museum was organized, where you can see how the northern Russian villages in the distant past.
The goal of the village of Malye Korely is to save the most outstanding wooden monuments.
It's great that the creators of this open-air museum have provided each house with a sign with the name of its former owners, thus immortalizing the names of ordinary people who lived in rural Russia.
Malye Korely is currently divided into four sectors spread over 140 hectares of a rolling forested landscape.
1. The sector of Kargopol and the Onega River (00:56)
Dwelling houses near Kargopolye settlement and Onega River are diverse in architecture. Here can be found, besides traditional log houses, T-shaped houses, L-shaped houses and purse houses , which are associated with the cohabitation in these places of different ethnic groups: Karels, Finns, Veps, Russians, having their own traditions and building culture.
2. The Dvina sector (04:11)
Houses in the Northern Dvina river basin are distinguished by their large size, height, proportionality, and expressiveness of individual details. A characteristic feature of the houses in the Dvina sector is the large roof overhangs over the central gable of the house, the mighty overhang supported by consoles.
3. The Pinega sector (07:36)
The Pinega sector reflects the architecture and life of the people who lived in the Pinega River basin, the largest tributary of the Dvina River. Wooden houses here are placed facing the sun. Here, in contrast to other regions of the Russian North, barns were located behind the village, forming a kind of barn streets or towns. Pinega barns are placed on tall posts to prevent rodents from entering the premises. In the barn, peasants stored the most valuable - grain, festive, and winter clothes. The front wall of the barn has a canopy over the front wall, which serves as a shelter from rain and snow.
4. The Mezen sectors (08:07)
A characteristic feature of the Mezensk settlements is retaining walls because most of them are on high riverbanks. When the snow melts, as well as during intense floods, the clay soil is easily eroded, which can lead to the sliding of the ground. Therefore, in many villages, there is a need for additional reinforcement of river banks.
Russia test-launches Topol-M ballistic missile
Russia on Monday conducted a successful test launch of a silo-based Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from its Plesetsk launch site in the northern Arkhangelsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The simulated warhead hit a designated target on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the ministry's Zvezda broadcasting service said.
The distance between Plesetsk and the Kamchatka Peninsula exceeds 5,500 kilometers.
The test launch once again confirmed the technical readiness of Topol-M ICBMs, which are on the combat duty with the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, Zvezda said.

Baikonur - Start of Soyuz rocket
At the end of August, I visited the facility for space flights - Baikonur. With an area of nearly 7000 km², it is not only the first-ever built but also the largest in the world. In addition to the start of the Soyuz rocket, we have the opportunity to explore other locations. Onboard of Soyuz spacecraft there was a humanoid robot, Fedor, which is supposed to help at the ISS.

SIMFEROPOL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER
ABSTRACT
This report provides a detailed analysis of the Simferopol Space Flight Center from then it was in the early stages of construction, through
the latest coverage. The facility, apparently the most significant tracking facility in the Soviet Union, contains the largest number of antennas, the largest area, and the most personnel of any of the Soviet tracking facilities.
The facility is one of a network of ten facilities which contain earth satellite vehicle tracking equipment and provide command/control for Soviet near-space events. Additionally, this facility apparently supports lunar programs in association with the Yevpatoriya Deep Space Tracking Facility.
