Petroșani is a city in Hunedoara County, Transylvania, Romania. The city has been associated with mining since the 19th century.
The town became part of Romania in 1920 as a consequence of the Treaty of Trianon.
The population experienced massive growth only in the 20th century during the communist regime, as many workers were brought in from other parts of the country.
As other cities from the Jiu Valley, throughout the second half of the 19th century and most of the 20th century, most activities in the city revolved around the mines. But after the fall of the communist regime, many mines were closed, and the city, just like the whole valley, was forced to diversify the economy. This has also led to a significant population decline: Petroșani is one of the Romanian cities which has experienced the fastest population loss from the 1990s onwards.

PEȘTERA BOLII - Hunedoara, Petroșani
💥Peștera este situată în partea de nord orașului Petroșani, la 6km de acesta, pe drumul ce leagă Valea Jiului de Țara Hațegului, în locul unde se întâlnesc Munții Retezatului cu cei ai Sebeșului.
💥Peștera începe acolo unde Pârâul Jupâneasa se pierde în pachetul de calcarele jurasice printr-un portal spectaculos de 20 m la baza și 10 m înălțime.
💥Numele peșterii vine de la numele familiei “Bolia” care a avut proprietăți în zonă.Înainte de a intra în peșteră, veți observa un panou cu harta celor 15 puncte de vizitare.
💥Încă din perioada interbelică în cea mai mare sală a peșterii au fost organizate concerte muzicale. Sala a fost denumită Sala de concert și dans ca urmare a acusticii deosebite de care a dat dovadă.
💥În peșteră veți trece peste mai multe poduri, fiecare având câte un nume: Podul Luminilor colorat cu lumini albastre care este o apariție impresionantă, Podul Liliacul, Podul Sabia Dacică care este susținut de cabluri și curbat și este unicat în România și Podul Stalactitelor de Gheață.
💥Luminile colorate, podurile, sala de spectacole cu o acustică foarte bună, troița, picturile rupestre paleolitice, misterioasa icoană din perete a Maicii Domnului cu Pruncul, energia peșterii, fac ca vizitarea acesteia să fie una relaxantă și interesantă, fără să fie necesare eforturi de strecurare prin spații strâmte ca în alte peșteri.

💥The cave is located in the northern part of the city of Petroșani, 6 km from it, on the road that connects Valea Jiului with Șara Hațegului, in the place where the Retezatu Mountains meet those of Sebeș.
💥The cave starts where the Jupâneasa Stream gets lost in the Jurassic limestones through a spectacular portal of 20 m at the base and 10 m high.
💥The name of the cave comes from the name of the Bolia family that had properties in the area. Before entering the cave, you will notice a panel with a map of the 15 visiting points.
💥 Since the interwar period, musical concerts have been organized in the biggest hall of the cave. The hall was named the Concert and Dance Hall as a result of the special acoustics it showed.
💥In the cave you will pass over several bridges, each with a name: the Bridge of Lights colored with blue lights which is an impressive apparition, the Liliacul Bridge, the Sabia Dacica Bridge which is supported by cables and curved and is unique in Romania and the Stalactite Bridge of Ice.
💥The colored lights, the bridges, the performance hall with very good acoustics, the troità, the Paleolithic rock paintings, the mysterious icon of the Mother of God with the Child on the wall, the energy of the cave, make visiting it a relaxing and interesting one, without any effort required of slipping through tight spaces like in other caves.

In orasul Petrila, din judetul Hunedoara, l-am cunoscut pe Catalin Cenusa, minerul care incerca in fiecare zi sa transforme Mina Petrila intr-un muzeu.
Catalin isi doreste sa le spuna tuturor, prin intermediul acestui muzeu, unde face totul voluntar, povestile legate de Mina Petrila, care sunt false si care sunt adevarate, cum au ramasa fara locuri de munca vreo 4.500 de persoane, dar si cum a trebuit sa-i scoata la suprafata pe colegii sai morti intr-o explozie.
