The WORST Place to Live in the UK? | BARNSLEY

Is this the worst place to live in the UK? In today's tour, we visit Barnsley. Barnsley was named one of the worst places to live in England in 2022. My intention isn't to offend anyone who is living in Barnsley, I wanted to see for myself why this town is considered to be one of the worst places to live in England and form my own opinion.

Places to see in ( Barnsley - UK )

Barnsley is a large town in South Yorkshire, England, located halfway between Leeds and Sheffield. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town centre lies on the west bank of the Dearne Valley.

Barnsley is surrounded by several smaller settlements which together form the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, of which Barnsley is the largest and its administrative centre. The town is accessed from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 motorway and has a railway station on the Hallam and Penistone Lines. Barnsley F.C. is the local football club.

Barnsley is a former industrial town centred on coal mining and glassmaking. Although both industries declined in the 20th century, Barnsley's culture is rooted in its industrial heritage and it has a tradition of brass bands, originally created as social clubs by its mining communities. It is also home of the Barnsley chop.

Divisions and suburbs of Barnsley are :

Ardsley, Athersley, Carlton, Cundy Cross, Gawber, Honeywell, Kendray, Kingstone, Lundwood, Monk Bretton, New Lodge, Oakwell, Old Town, Pogmoor, Smithies, Stairfoot, Worsbrough (includes Worsbrough Bridge, Worsbrough Common, Worsbrough Dale, Worsbrough Village and Ward Green), Wilthorpe, Dodworth, Mapplewell, Staincross, Royston, Wombwell, Hoyland, Elsecar, Kexbrough, Cudworth.

The main transport hub is Barnsley Interchange, a combined rail and busstation that was opened on Sunday 20 May 2007, and was the first project in the remaking Barnsley scheme to be completed. Stagecoach Yorkshire run most bus services within Barnsley, operating to and from Barnsley Interchange. Barnsley is also served by:

Dodworth railway station west of the town centre, which is a stop on the Penistone Line, and has one platform.
Darton railway station however, is on the Hallam Line, has two platforms and is in the north of Barnsley.
Goldthorpe railway station and has two platforms (east of Barnsley). The line is on the Wakefield Line and has no service to the above stations or Barnsley Interchange.
Thurnscoe railway station and has two platforms (east of Barnsley). The station is on the Wakefield Line and has no service to any Barnsley station other than Goldthorpe.
The nearest airport is Robin Hood Airport approximately 26 miles (42 km) away.

Places to see in ( Holmfirth - UK )

Holmfirth is a small town on the A6024 Woodhead Road in the Holme Valley, within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Centred upon the confluence of the Holme and Ribble rivers, Holmfirth is 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Huddersfield and 13 miles (21 km) northeast of Glossop.

Holmfirth mostly consists of stone-built cottages nestled in the Pennine hills. The Peak District National Park around Holme Moss is 4 miles (6.4 km) to the south of the town of Holmfirth. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Holmfirth was once a centre for pioneering film-making by Bamforth & Co., which later switched to the production of saucy seaside postcards. Between 1973 and 2010 both Holmfirth and the Holme Valley became well known as the filming location of the BBC's situation comedy Last of the Summer Wine.

Holmfirth (and the surrounding countryside) is the setting for the BBC's long-running comedy Last of the Summer Wine. Thousands of tourists flock to the area each year to enjoy scenery and locations familiar from the series. Filming of the TV Slaithwaite-based drama, Where the Heart Is, had also taken place in and around the area.

Holmfirth used to have its own branch line, off the Huddersfield to Sheffield line (commonly referred to as the Penistone Line), this short, 2 mile (3 km), line branched from the mainline just south of Brockholes. Holmfirth bus station is located in the centre of Holmfirth from which regular bus services take varying routes around the outlying villages and to Huddersfield's bus and railway stations.

Holmfirth constitutes a town of its own almost seven miles (11 km) south of the larger town of Huddersfield. While the town of Holmfirth itself is comparatively small, it is surrounded by several hamlets and villages. These neighbouring settlements are often collectively referred to as Holmfirth and include:- Austonley, Arrunden, Burnlee, Cinderhills, Cliff, Deanhouse, Gully, Flushhouse, Hade Edge, Thongsbridge, Upperthong and Washpit. Many of these are located on Cartworth Moor. Other villages and hamlets within the Holmfirth post town include:- Brockholes, Fulstone, Jackson Bridge, Hepworth, Holme, Holmbridge, Honley, Meltham, Netherthong, New Mill, Scholes, Totties, Underbank and Wooldale.

( Holmfirth - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Holmfirth . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Holmfirth - UK

Upper Denby and Penistone on a motorhome adventure

We travelled to Penistone from Upper Denby on a wet Sunday morning whilst on our 8 week motorhome adventure.

The new cruck barn completed in 2011 is built to look like a much older building and is a great place to start exploring if the rain isn't lashing down !

St Johns church has a short history trail laid out in Mill stones and a monument to a local hero who raised himself to scholarly heights despite being blind. Its designed to be tactile.

The rain not easing off we stopped of at the Penistone Tap room. Good beer and a large selection to take away.

The sun came out eventually and we headed to the George inn , Upper Denby to sample a few of the 10 varieties of pies they have on offer

Music by
On a clear morning by Sunfish Grove

We are Helen , Alan and our mad dog Buffy. We are new to motor homing and learning as we go !
We are planning many more adventure so why not tag along.

Gorgeous Haworth, West Yorkshire - Main Street 360 Video (VR)

You control the Camera Angle..... 😎

Walk with me up this amazing historic village Main Street. Home to the Bronte Sisters !!

Haworth (/ˈhaʊ.ərθ/)[2] is a village in City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, in the Pennines, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Keighley, 10 miles (16 km) west of Bradford and 10 miles (16 km) east of Colne in Lancashire. The surrounding areas include Oakworth and Oxenhope. Nearby villages include Cross Roads, Stanbury and Lumbfoot.

Haworth is a tourist destination known for its association with the Brontë sisters and the preserved heritage Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

Haworth is first mentioned as a settlement in 1209. The name may refer to a hedged enclosure or hawthorn enclosure. The name was recorded as Howorth on a 1771 map.

Haworth and Haworth railway station have been used as settings for numerous period films and TV series, including The Railway Children (starring Jenny Agutter), Yanks (starring Richard Gere and Vanessa Redgrave), and Alan Parker's film version of Pink Floyd's The Wall (starring Bob Geldof). It also featured in Wild Child (starring Emma Roberts), and The Souk (a high-class vintage shop) was depicted as a charity shop.

In 2016 the BBC drama To Walk Invisible was shot in and around Haworth and included a full-scale replica of the Brontë Parsonage, Old School Rooms and Haworth Church at the time of the Brontës on nearby Penistone Hill.

Hellifield and Huddersfield - two beautiful stations in Yorkshire. Edited Version!

A trip down the Settle & Carlisle line to Yorkshire to see Hellifield and Huddersfield stations. Hellifield station is Grade II listed, Huddersfield is Grade I and in each you will see why.
If you enjoy my films and would like to buy me a coffee to encourage more, you can do this on :-

The platform numbering at Huddersfield is like this:-
Platform 1 - Mainly Trans-Pennine services to Manchester and beyond.
Platform 2 - Sheffield, the Penistone line.
Platform 3 - was at east end of Platform 1 but no longer there
Platform 4 - mainly stopping trains to Manchester/Leeds/Bradford
Platform 5 - track appears to be well rusted and not used
Platform 6 - stopping trains to Leeds or Bradford via Halifax
Platform 7 - no longer there, I think it was a west-facing bay.
Platform 8 - Mainly Trans-Pennine services to Leeds and beyond.
You can see in the video looking along Platform 1 how the surface changes slightly where it was extended outwards.
