Frombork is a town in northern Poland, situated on the Vistula Lagoon in Braniewo County, within Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It had a population of 2,415 as of 2016.
The town was first mentioned in a 13th-century document. In the early 16th century it was the residence of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, who used it as a site for several of his observations.
The town and its 14th century cathedral were badly damaged in World War II. After the war the cathedral was meticulously reconstructed and is again a popular tourist destination, listed as a Historic Monument of Poland.
Frombork is known as “The Jewel of Warmia” because of its many historical sites. The Museum of Copernicus in Frombork holds exhibitions related to the astronomer, as well as to astronomy in general, and includes a planetarium.

Visit Poland! 🇵🇱 Part 8/10

4 Must known facts about Poland:

1 - Poland is the home of the world’s biggest castle
The greatest castle in terms of land area is the Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was first erected in the 13th century as a Teutonic fortification and garrison. In relation to that, Poland is the amazing home of 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites!

2 - Original Vodka is from Poland
However, it is thought that vodka was developed in Poland, a claim that is passionately contested by Russians. In Polish court records from 1405, vodka was first mentioned in writing, and its original use was as medicinal. Since the Middle Ages, Poland has been producing the well-known beverage, and today, with an annual production of over 260 million liters, the Polish continue to produce some of the best vodkas in the world.

3 - Poland has the oldest restaurant in Europe
The oldest restaurant in Europe is Piwnica Swidnicka, which may be found in the Polish city of Wrocaw. Even though it was founded in 1275, you can still savor a delectable lunch there today.

4 - It has one of the original Gutenberg Bibles
Only nine copies of the Gutenberg Bible still have their original binding from the fifteenth century. And one of them is housed in the Diocesan Museum in the Polish village of Pelplin, which is located in the Kociewie region. The Gutenberg Bible was the first significant book to be printed on a printing press, opening the door for the West to produce books in large quantities. The Gutenberg Bible is currently one of the rarest volumes in existence.

Lure 11,5 Kajak Wierzyca Pelplin Gniew River Poland

Angel of Freedom in Solidarity Square or Plac Solidarności. - Szczecin Poland - ECTV

The Monument to the Victims of December 1970, also known as the Angel of Freedom, commemorates the victims of the December events of 1970. During the protests of the workers repressed by militia and military, 16 people had died. The 11-meter-tall bronze statue, weighing nearly 10 tonnes, it represents an angel holding a crown of thorns in his hands, which forms the inscription December 1970. The names of the fallen were engraved on the granite slabs around the statue.

The monument was built thanks to the efforts of municipal councilmen and the Association 'December 1970 - January 1971', and the history of the beginning of its construction dates back to the 1990s. Eventually, it was created according to the project of Czesław Dźwigaj. Its solemn unveiling took place on 28th of August, 2005, during the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the August Agreements.

My name is Eric Clark and I am a world traveler. I have been around the world a few times and decided to help fund my travels by sharing my videos and pictures. I have been to almost every country and would be glad to give tips and pointers. Drop me a note. = )
